I saw this on tour in 2015 having been coerced to go by friends. I HATED it!

Yes I agree, I didn't even remember the name of the new song whoops! That was the highlight for me in the London show. I would have loved to have seen Patina Miller!

I saw this earlier in the year and although it is an enjoyable evening out I didn't think it was as good as the Palladium show. I didn't see Alexandra Burke but the understudy was good. I also saw the understudy at the Palladium so I have never seen it with the 'star'.
The one song I was looking forward to most was 'How I got the Calling'. It is still in the show but has been rewritten and is quite different, I much prefer the original. I don't know what others thought about it?

Ah caiaphas that is such a shame, we have been six times now and always been very lucky with the weather. I saw the advertisement for Stiles and Drew but a bit far to go for it I think.
I think ALNM and Witches of Eastwick are my favourite shows I've seen at the Watermill.

I've got into a nice tradition with my grandparents where we go to the Watermill every year for the summer musical, despite it being a bit of a trek.
ALNM is one of the only Sondheim shows I know very little about and I didn't get chance to listen to the vast recording before I went.
I was pleasantly surprised by the show. The first ten minutes I wasn't convinced I was going to enjoy it but it got much stronger in my view after that and I loved it. I though the cast were really strong overall, particularly Josephine Gabrielle (sp?) and the actress playing Anne. I loved 'A Weekend in the Country', songs like that show Sondheim at his best.
I'd really recommend going to see the show, not just because it was brilliant but also to experience the beautiful theatre. We had lunch before and then enjoyed the sun in the grounds so was a lovely day out. Looking forward to seeing what the next show is!

Did anyone see Billy Cullum as Jesus last year? I can't scroll back through 26 pages to see if there any previous comments!
I really liked him as Mark in Rent so I'd be interested to hear how he compared to Declan Bennett.

I must say Sunset is my favourite of all ALW scores. Have seen it multiple times, the last being with Glenn at the Colisseum.Have to say Petula Clark has been my favourite Norma. Her acting and vocals when she was in her prime in the 1990s were sublime. She is the one who has played Norma the most over the years including a long spell at the Adelphi plus toured with it in USA. Which recording do you recommend? It's one of the only ALW shows I don't know and want to have a listen before I go in a few weeks.

I'm not familiar with the film at all but I agree with what others have said about being underwhelmed by the announcement. Curve is one of my local theatres and I do try and go there relatively regularly but they don't seem to be taking many real risks. I've certainly been more interested in shows in the fringe theatres in London and Manchester and Sheffield than at Curve.
They are doing Pink Sari Revolution in October which I thought was an exciting announcement having read the book and I saw a great production by NYMT of Spring Awakening there last summer but aside from those I haven't been that interested.

I forgot about Herod I also loved his song.
Yes my friends had the same problem re the temple and lepers. I did like the costumes but then of course it went into the lepers and my friends didn't quite understand that part.
I somehow forgot to say that for me one or the best things about the whole show was the choreography, really fresh and ppwwrful.

I have the CD but it lives under my bed with all my others ... The YouTube link is handy but it misses the final two tracks - boo hiss I was also at Night music on Saturday afternoon. Small world Small world indeed! Where were you sat? I was at the back of the stalls. Really enjoyed the show and one of my favourite venues

Do you have the CD of it or are you listening to it somewhere else? I went to see it on Saturday at the Watermill but have only heard the original Broadway cast recording. Thanks I was listening to this: not sure if this is a complete recording. Great thank you

I saw this about two weeks'ago, a Saturday matinee, but forgot to post. Overall I thought it was a brilliant production. I loved Tyrone Huntley. I wasn't as keen on Declan Bennett though this may have been down to direction rather than him personally.
I won't post any spoilers but loved how some of it was done e.g. blood money, the Last Supper and the lashes. I did think the use of microphones did detract from the acting at times, particularly when Judas and Jesus were singing to each other at the start of Act 2.
The only thing I wasn't as keen on direction wise was the priests as I thought they were too comical.
It is a show I love but the first production I have seen which I have really enjoyed (having seen the 2005ish UK tour and the production following the ITV show. I had to explain a few parts to the friends I went with in the interval as they weren't familiar with the show, I can imagine it you have never heard the music it can be hard to follow!

^^ yes to both. I think she's supposed to be deadpan but I suppose there's a fine line between that and it coming across as flat. And yes, I know what the point of the different costumes was, I just thought it looked shambolic. I do see your point about the costumes. I recall from a clip I saw of the Broadway production that all the ancestors were wearing white but I might be wrong it was a while ago!

I'm going to this on Saturday, so excited as missed it last year and have only ever seen it on stage once which was a fairly poor tour about 12 or so years ago!

I'd be interested to see it as the original film was funny. I'm ATG card holder so will hopefully get a decent discount at Alex Birmingham - if production goes ahead. There's currently 50% off Premium & Band A for the opening night, and £5 off Tuesday-Thursday. Oh thanks for the update I didn't know that!

Just booked for for, the website is really clunky it took ages. Managed to get seats on the day so wanted but a lot more tickets have gone compared to when I last checked. Dont really know anything about the show so looking forward to it. I've not been to the theatre since it changed to the Other Palace either.

I'm planning to book for this but the seats are pretty expensive so holding out to see if there are any ticket offers There were first opening night offers running a while ago. I got a stalls seat in Manchester for £14... which to be fair is the only thing that sparked my interest in this run. Thanks. I'm going to see it in Birmingham as that is as close as it's coming to me but I can only go on a Saturday. The tickets are pretty much all £50 and not sure I want to see it that much!

Thanks so much that was so easy and means I don't have to remember to do it on Friday. I never used to book shows so far in advance but they are always on sale so far ahead and I worry if I don't book them won't get a seat

I was at the matinee in Nottingham yesterday. There were some good parts in the show but overall I thought it was quite flat and missing something. There was very little plot, I think it could have been made into a much better show.
Highlights in the score for me were Pulled, Full Disclosure, One Normal Night and Crazier Than You. The set was good, for me Wednesday and Gomez were the standouts in the cast along with Lucas' mother. I didnt really see the point of including Thing/the hand at all as it was so unimpressive. The audience seemed to enjoy it with a standing ovation in the stalls.
There was also a five minute break in the first half due to technical issues after Fester sang his song, I think a problem with the curtain
