I've just tried now and showing as completely sold out I just checked and there is still loads of availability. You need to try various combinations of the BACK button (top left) and screen refreshes and it will eventually work. Thanks for that. Couldn't get it to work on phone , but eventually got it up on my laptop after about 6 tries. Agree it's an awful booking site - even trying to register took me 3 goes before it worked.

A new venue or do you think there is a chance of borrowing Punchdrunk? Not booking past Sept of this year at the moment. The Burnt City now closes 24 September. A little while to leave this empty for a Feb run but... ? Per the email received yesterday, this will be in 'custom built theatre spaces unique to this production'. So I guess that rules out a bus shelter on the Strand?

I saw this production during it's first run in Sydney with Eryn Jean Norville playing all the parts. It moves along at a cracking pace, and it's visually very busy. Costuming and staging are quite lush. There's quite a lot of interplay of live action, video and recorded audio. And even mobile phones in one scene. I've seen Sarah Snook performing in Saint Joan - which was about 80% a one woman performance- and I think she'll be great in this role.

One thing I object to is that they had a four ticket per person limit - that is too high given they knew this would sell out. Two per person should have been the limit. In fact I think for members booking it *was* two per person ? 2 ticket limit for Friends during the Priority Booking period, 4 tickets for the whole production. Not that there's any left to book. :/

I booked a £69 front row ticket for matinee show in Jan..website was getting very buggy as went through the booking process.. I was amazed at how easy it was! Booked and paid within 5 minutes. It looks to be selling well in the stalls, more seats are available in the gallery.

Saw this last night from the cheap(ish) seats. I was concerned when they announced the venue that the cast would be rattling around on the huge concert hall stage, but I needn't have worried. Everything is played large, from the gorgeous costumes to the monumental staircase that forms the central focus of the stage. There is no mistaking that this is the Michael Sheen Show, I just wish I had been sat closer to see his facial expressions . His transformation from old man to young and back with the simple donning of a rather fabulous robe was sensational. Unfortunately I was surrounded by people checking their phones every 20 minutes, a chair kicker behind, and a group whose phones went off (yes, multiple offenders) who then needed to have a chat about their phones going off DURING THE PERFORMANCE !

Did the postponed production of Everybody's Talking about Jamie ever make it to Australia? No, it was cancelled outright (not postponed) and all tickets refunded. The FB page hasn't been active for over 2 years and the website link takes you somewhere else.

I wasn't going to contribute as most of my theatre going was restricted to Sydney this year, so I don't expect my choices to rate. But why not?
1. RBG: Of One, Many . ( Sydney Theatre Company) 2. Good (Harold Pinter Theatre) 3. Mary (Hampstead Theatre) 4. The Upstart Crow ( Apollo) 5. The Tempest (Sydney Theatre Company)

The Rocky Horror Show is in Australia for 6mths from Feb. First stop Sydney. With Jason Donovan as Frank. Surprised theres been no new thread for it. Cant wait. Well...there's only a couple of us Aussies on the board, and I'm not really a musicals person. Plus Jason Donovan is much more popular in the UK than in Australia. There's a bit of a theatre glut over the summer in Sydney. Currently playing - Moulin Rouge, R & H Cinderella, Come From Away, & Amadeus Coming soon - Rocky Horror, Tina, Tick Tick Boom, La Cage Aux Folles, Beauty & the Beast, The Picture of Dorian Grey, The Goat, 2 x productions of Macbeth , Consent plus a whole load of one off shows for The Sydney Festival throughout January.

Merry Christmas from Sydney, where it is actually Christmas Day! Hot and humid, so turkey dinner can wait till tea time. But lots of mince pies, stollen and Quality Street to keep us going till then. My Christmas present to myself doesn't arrive till New Year, seeing Michael Sheen in Amadeus at the Sydney Opera House.

They were emphasising no photos *including the curtain call* on my visits, so I think it was more about ‘protecting the impact of the narrative’ , possibly less about the Nazi get up and more so the final reveal ( for those who may not have seen it coming). David Tennant has already stripped off the uniform for the curtain call, plus as I mentioned earlier in this thread he's dressed as a Nazi for a role before so the photos are already out there. They weren't enforcing the stickers at all ( we still had people very obviously taking photos ), if they were really serious about it they could have gone the whole camera locked bag route.

Does Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves count? It’s extraordinarily dull (and the less said about the accents the better!), except whenever Alan Rickman is on screen - the guy knew this film was going to be awful so hammed it up for all he was worth. I genuinely switched it off once his character got killed off. Paging Frappers - what did Rickman have to say about this turkey in his diaries ? Richard E Grant was offered the Sheriff role, but the production he was working on refused to release him , despite not actually needing him on set for long periods. He also said Alan Rickman threw out the original script and had all his lines re-written by Ruby Wax!

David Tennant must have found this hard to do. The costuming alone would have made most people vomit so well done to him. Just to add, I hate having to queue outside the theatre to get in and they wanted to put a sticker on phones to prevent the taking of photographs. I refused of course. What an insult to think I would stand up and take a photo of David Tennant. I did see why they do this at the end, see above comment on costuming but even then it was silly. The audience was silent all thu, not a cough, not a rustle from beginning to end. He's played a Nazi before, albeit a spy pretending to be a Nazi ( Spies of Warsaw). And played one in a Big Finish audio. I saw this play twice last week and both nights someone was caught taking photos at the curtain call. Quite openly too, not even being sneaky about it.

Anyone heard anything regarding day seats/rush/lottery for this? I’ve become very limited to when I can see it (4 shows), and those dates are already nearly sold out. If there aren’t going to be alternatives I may have to just go for it and get a pretty expensive seat… They've just announced cheap seats for essential workers for every show, if that helps at all?

Now opening early on 5th October. And the booking page has been updated to 'this play has an interval' . So maybe they have added something or stretched some scenes out , as it's quite short on paper ?

Sharon Small now playing Helen. Would seem Fenella Woollgar couldn't make it, which is a shame.
Having Sharon as the wife now makes me wonder if she & DT will using their real accents.
And the booking page now showing this as 'no interval' .

I may give in and get a portable air conditioner. The only problem would be getting it up the stairs on my own, as apparently they’re heavy. I have a small personal evaporative chiller , about the size of a toaster , that I use in my bedroom to help get to sleep on really hot nights. Not sure if you can get them where you are , but it wasn't expensive and easy to get home on the bus. I don't have a/c in my flat btw , but get by with a fan and keeping the sun out as much as possible. The trick is to shut everything up at night before the sun comes up. Once things heat up it's too late .

New production of Amadeus as part of the Sydney Opera House' 50th celebration season, being staged in the newly renovated Concert Hall.
Michael Sheen as Salieri , with local actors Rahel Romahn and Lily Balatincz as Amadeus and Constance, and featuring a live orchestra.
Tickets are surprisingly pricey! ($255 top price for a Friday/Saturday. Most drama tickets in Sydney top out at around $160 - musicals can be a bit more)

Having seen a production recently, Blythe Spirit is a play I always think is better as a film. The ghostly aspects and Elvira's antics just come across a bit hokey on stage, and the film wasn't limited to one room setting wise. ( I'm talking about the 1945 film, not the recent remake)

I didn't get the email as a 'previous ticketholder' and complained. They sent me a link which worked to book tickets, but wouldn't let me use my account credit. Just happy that it's actually happening when I'll be in London!

Tennant is currently filming Good Omens and Woolgar will presumably soon be filming Call the Midwife (it usually films in the summer) so if they are both still involved then it will certainly be much later in the year. Good Omens 2 finished filming a few weeks ago, although Neil Gaiman says it won't be ready till next year.
