This finally opens tomorrow in the swish newly revamped Theatre Royal.
I'm a bit tempted to get a Rush ticket having seen excerpts on the last Tony Awards show. Especially as they have Maggie McKenna and Natalie Bassingthwaite in the cast.

I remember blankets and scarves etc always seemed to be super itchy as a kid, the last thing you wanted was for them to touch your skin. I still remember my surprise being given a soft scarf as an adult after years of refusing to wear the itchy ones and being cold. Actually, your childhood woollens probably *were* scratchier than today's versions. Lots of work has been done in breeding and processing to grow softer, finer micron sheep wool without the 'itch' factor. You can thank us Aussies for that one!

Speaking of Hi-Fi people used to have these in the house and maybe several, it came in sections with a record player on top, with a twin tape player below, a radio player below that and a amplifier underneath that, that was connected to two speakers. I had a a Pioneer one. No such thing as IPhone, people had a Walkman, which you put a tape cassette in and had to turn over to play the other side. I still have 2 Walkmans somewhere, which would still work if I had a cassette to play. To make us feel even older, iPods are now obsolete too. I recently had to replace mine (because Apple won't repair iPods any more) and they now only make the iPod Touch.

What I always say to that argument is that if it really was significantly cheaper, they would have done it long ago. If anything, working from home should require a pay rise - you are using your own resources, electricity etc.I work for a charity so for us offsetting travel against use of home resources. Works better for some people but that is the deal and most people ok with this In Australia, we can claim WFH expenses on our tax. Works out better for people with dedicated home offices, but you can still claim even if you are just working at your kitchen table. On a side note, we have just passed our vaccination target so Sydney comes out of lockdown on Monday!

During a local production of Home, I'm Darling a few months back, the scene where the husband storms out slamming the door after him was followed by the crashing of glass and a 20 minute stop. We never did find out exactly what broke but I can only assume the actor playing the husband doesn't know his own strength! ( he's quite burly - think Tongan rugby player burly! )

So turns out after many emails that the cc i booked on has run out so they need another cc to give me my refund which to be fair that have offered now. They gave me a phone number. I hung on for ages but gave up. The covid message on the phone is so loooong it took aeons of my phone battery 😳 so I am left with having to phone and hope someone answers. Eventually. Yep I had this problem too. Tried over 4 different days ( well, nights for me because of time zones) and spent about 40 mins on hold each time without getting through. I messaged them on Twitter and all they could say was 'try again later'. :/ I guess we have until the voucher expires to claim a refund, but it's not good service at all.

I see more plays than musicals, but the musicals I do like I have seen multiple times. Once , 4 times in London, twice in Sydney and once in Melbourne. American Psycho - once in NYC and twice in Sydney. Although historically I've probably seen Jesus Christ Superstar more times than anything, as it was the long runner in Sydney during my school years and has made multiple returns since. Play-wise, I saw David Tennant's Richard II eleven times over 3 venues ( SuA, London and NY ), his Much Ado eight times , and Don Juan in Soho six times. I think you can see a theme there...

but only when the dates are settled will they then honour a voucher for a new date. I know that's literally what the email says, but with the credit voucher and redemption code provided, I wonder if it would be good for any ATG ticket purchase? Their other shows that haven't been rescheduled yet resulted in a credit voucher that I was able to use for new purchases. There doesn't seem to be any way to see your credit vouchers on the ATG website, unfortunately. The credit voucher doesn't have to be used for Good. The confirmation email I received after lodging the refund request says "• 35 Venues Nationwide - Your voucher can be redeemed for tickets to see any show at one of our 35 venues across the country and London’s West End." They do try and talk you out of a refund but it's just a matter of replying 'REFUND PLEASE' . No drama at all.

Is there anywhere to see it without paying for a subscription? I was a huge fan back in the day. I don't really watch it anymore but this seems like something not to be missed. Is there no streaming service in your area of the world that offers a free trial? I signed up to the local Fox service for 14 day trial, watched Friends then cancelled.

Now playing at the Roslyn Packer Theatre until 29th May.
I saw a preview performance last week, and it's hard to imagine how they could improve on it. The children are fabulous ( they have 3 alternate casts for the childrens roles) and the amazing stage makes the most of the revolve.
Marina Prior ( who was the original Australian Christine in Phantom all those years ago) as Helen wows the house with Days and Days , and Maggie McKenna as college-age Alison stops the show with Changing My Major.
I went in blind to this one, apart from knowing about the Bechdel Test, and really enjoyed it. It was very funny and very moving, sometimes in the same song.

In Australia we have currently running We have Shrek The Musical, Frozen, Come From Away . With Hamilton to come. And Cursed Child to return. Has anyone seen the Australian productions. What should I see. Have not seen any of them except Hamilton with LMM PS Shrek is at 100% capacity Depends on where you are in Australia. (With the current trend for snap border closures that needs to be a consideration) In Sydney we have - musical wise - - Frozen playing now at the Capitol
- Hamilton at the Lyric from 17th March
- Fun Home opens 27th April at the Roslyn Packet Theatre
- The Wedding Singer at the State Theatre from 20th June
A Chorus Line plays at the Darlinghurst Theatre from August but not on sale as yet.
There's a Boublil & Schonberg concert with Alfie Boe and Rachel Ann Go at the State Theatre on 28-29th May, but this may be doubtful with the current quarantine restrictions. Hamilton is fairly well sold through to September ( the theatres are only selling 80% capacity because of Covid distancing rules) but they will be running the daily ticket lottery.

Happy with this. But who knows if I'll even be able to leave the country by then? Think I'll re-book for later in the run just to give myself a better chance.

No cast announced as yet. I wouldn't be surprised if casting & auditions are being held up by the Covid travel restrictions ( state & international borders are currently closed)
I decided to pass on getting tickets just yet. I'll try my luck when ( if ?) it actually opens. Oh and it's maintaining it's tradition of tickets costing a small fortune. Cheapest seats are $70 plus booking fee ( approx 40 GBP ) for a restricted view in the back of the gallery.

Sydney Theatre Company are restarting their season at the end of the month.
They have reduced seating in their main theatre from 880 to 147 per performance, spread in singles & pairs across the stalls and circle. No bars open, no cloakroom, no physical ticketing, temperature checks on entry & masks compulsory. Also no waiting in foyers allowed, so basically it will be just in & out. Will be interesting to see how it goes.

Nothing on the One Show. DT mentioned last week that they hadn't given up hope just yet. They have a bit of time still up their sleeves, considering he was meant to be still filming Around the World this month anyway.

Well I just received the presale alert for this. Tickets go on sale in early September, so it would seem this is still on schedule for the predicted March 2021 opening.

I've only seen straight plays here, mostly STC productions. I've seen a few cabaret style shows next door in the smaller Studio (where Six played recently). Perhaps with the Concert Hall closed for renovations this was the best available? And the Theatre Royal definitely won't be opening any time soon. I walk past most days and it's still a bomb site.

Well at least there was no 'issue of the week'. I don't think. It was all a bit of a mish mash. The theme of playthings-of-the-gods has been done a few times, but this one didn't really stick with me. I think it was the detachable fingers that irked me. I did think it looked great though , especially the Aleppo scenes. And once again Graham got the best lines.
