A perfectly fine production for as much of this as I saw, but didn't really feel excited by this. This was a pity as I needed it to be good to take away from the pain of the really uncomfortable seating at Dock X in Canada Water! I was up in row L and the seat pitch there was really tight. One older chap nearby simply couldn't fit his legs into his seat but luckily front of house found him somewhere else to go. Another chap had his knees hunched up as his legs wouldn't fit into the narrow space in front. All the interval talk around me on the way out to the foyer seemed to be about knee pain. I don't know whether it was this that caused all the walkouts, but we had at least 10 in the first half tonight. I bailed at the interval, which I very rarely do, as I just couldn't face round two in those seats! Saw this about two weeks ago & also left at the interval, mainly due to the uncomfortable seating. It was also very cold that night which meant everyone was sitting in their coats, making the seating even tighter. Every time someone fidgeted the whole row wobbled. I was disappointed they didn't make better use of the space, it could have been so much more interesting & intimate with a more imaginative staging & seating arrangement. Indira Varma was the standout for me. Would be interesting to swap her with Cush Jumbo in the Donmar version & give her something to act against.

Happy Australia Day /Invasion Day/ Day 26 - or whatever you choose to call it these days. There were the usual official celebrations here in Sydney, but I partook in none as I hid inside away from the 40 degree heat.
Although we did get the traditional afternoon Southerly Buster sweep through to cool things a bit.

Wasn’t David Tennant in this a while back? Way before fame and glory. Yes, at the Donmar in 2002. He played Jeff.

So, Groundhog Day opens in Melbourne on 24 January. Is anybody on this board in Oz going to see it tomorrow, if not tomorrow then tomorrow... ? When the news was announced, I did take a look at flight options. I figured it was one indulgence too far, but I'd love to hear from anybody who is going (or travelling) to see it! If you are, enjoy. I will be going to see it. I am flying to Australia on Wednesday week (31st January) fir six weeks to see the folks. Although I will be Sydney based, I am flying with my mother to Melbourne for a wedding at the end of February. My mother is not familiar with the show, has never seen the film nor is she familiar with the whole Groundhog Day terminology, or concept. I see that Andy Carl is reprising his role as Phil Connors. I will report back when I can. If you get a chance you should catch 'RBG: Of Many, One' at the STC while you're here. It's brilliant!

A true story about an unsolved murder that divided a nation, Jason Robert Brown’s Tony Award-winning musical, Parade is coming to Sydney in May 2024, following the Broadway revival in 2023, and a sell-out season in Melbourne.
With a book by acclaimed playwright Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy) and a rousing, colourful and haunting score by Jason Robert Brown (Songs for a New World, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County), Parade is a moving examination of one of the darkest episodes of America's history.
Daring, innovative and bold, Parade offers both moral lessons and a timely reminder, as Simon Wiesenthal said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” This could not be more relevant in our world today.
This production proudly features two astonishing Jewish performers Aaron Robuck and Montana Sharp in the lead roles of Leo and Lucille Frank.
From 9 - 25 May at Everest Theatre, Seymour Centre

Do we think a transfer is on the cards for this? Must be tricky with the headphones? I think the trickier part would be finding a suitable venue *and* David Tennant being available at the same time The man never rests!

I tried to buy tickets the minute they came out and I couldn't get any. What do we think the odds are of actually being able to get the Donmar Daily or standing tix? I need to see Tennant as Macbeth- not sure about the headphones though More chance of Standing over Donmar Dailys. There will always be standing but no guarantee of Dailys as these are mostly unrequired House Seats

No 'stage door ' signing or photos for any cast members. No nuts allowed in theatre due to cast member allergy.

I wish they’d just put a show like this that is obviously going to sell out immediately straight into a bigger theatre. I’d like to see it but can’t be bothered with the hassle of trying to get a ticket. Because it's part of the Donmar anniversary celebrations? Moving it to a different theatre kind of defeats the purpose.

Poor thing must be terrified. It truth, that's what I thought BurlyBeaR. And for everyone's safety, they'll probably put it down! He was found & returned home unharmed. Sedated, but otherwise unharmed. 😀

I get the feeling this may spark a few returns. Headphones are not everyone's cup of tea.
Anyone after tickets should start checking the website.

What is not as widely known is that during the early days of Covid , Matthew headed up a limited release clothing collection playing on his Chandler catchphrases with proceeds going to the W.H.O Covid vaccination project. (I'm currently wearing my 'Could I be any more vaccinated?' tee shirt)
Subsequently, when the much delayed Friends reunion finally happened, they used the same platform for merchandising with proceeds going to various charities.

Its always been a very popular maybe even a cult film and I can see it working pretty well on stage. Sean Foley is doing a lot of premieres in Brum and actively looking to get stuff to transfer to the West End. This would have good potential to tour at least if it gets a bit of a buzz and could go into West End for a run if the market was there. It's certainly achieved cult status. I just went to a 36th anniversary screening last month. And Paul McGann still gets stopped in the street by uni students a few times a week! I think this production will have to choose between being faithful to the original to please the fans, and changing things up to attract a new audience. Because the die hards won't like too much change.

It’s a huge pity really - this sounds fabulous and Matt Smith will be great but there’s no way I’m forking out £150 to sit in the Duke of York’s. Some tickets £180… it’s mad Just saying the seats at the ends of rows C & D are £65 and good value in my opinion. They are marked as restricted but you miss very little, and very close. I sat there for Vanya and lost sight of Andrew Scott maybe twice in the whole thing for mere seconds only.

Saw this tonight and very much enjoyed it. I didn't miss the interval at all, and my seat in the rear stalls was comfortable enough. The whole cast is solid, but it really is the JLM show. Much more my thing than Next to Normal (which was good, no shade here. But this was more my speed.) Although there was singing !

Theatre isn't a museum where things have to be in deep freeze forever so reinventing A Chorus Line wouldn't be a bad thing. We had a new production last year in Sydney . It was a limited run but completely sold out, despite being postponed twice due to Covid. So the audience is there for the show, in whatever form it takes. www.darlinghursttheatre.com/achorusline

If anyone is interested in seeing the 2003 NT production of this play, you can view it on video at the NT archives. It's not a great quality recording, but I still enjoyed it.

I've just tried now and showing as completely sold out I just checked and there is still loads of availability. You need to try various combinations of the BACK button (top left) and screen refreshes and it will eventually work. Thanks for that. Couldn't get it to work on phone , but eventually got it up on my laptop after about 6 tries. Agree it's an awful booking site - even trying to register took me 3 goes before it worked.

A new venue or do you think there is a chance of borrowing Punchdrunk? Not booking past Sept of this year at the moment. The Burnt City now closes 24 September. A little while to leave this empty for a Feb run but... ? Per the email received yesterday, this will be in 'custom built theatre spaces unique to this production'. So I guess that rules out a bus shelter on the Strand?

I saw this production during it's first run in Sydney with Eryn Jean Norville playing all the parts. It moves along at a cracking pace, and it's visually very busy. Costuming and staging are quite lush. There's quite a lot of interplay of live action, video and recorded audio. And even mobile phones in one scene. I've seen Sarah Snook performing in Saint Joan - which was about 80% a one woman performance- and I think she'll be great in this role.
