I have not seen her, or even the musical, so i am not disappointed on that level. I'm sure she will be great. I am disappointed that we have a good leading role for a British women to take and it has gone to an american coming over from Broadway when there are multiple British leading ladies who could do a great job. But it means we get to see some leading ladies who we would otherwise have to go to New York to see, which not everyone who wants to can necessarily afford to do. You're basically arguing that performers should only be given opportunities in their country of origin, which I think is ludicrous. And of course it works both ways - many British leading ladies have done Broadway, and deservedly so. Nothing does or should stop any performer from making their mark on both sides of the Atlantic. I agree with this, I think. Although I deffo see both sides of the argument. I’ve never seen McPhee in the role and I was Team Ivy all the way in Smash so have no feelings about her in Waitress, but quite rightly not many, if any, people (on this board at least) have been condemning the likes of Patti Lupone in Company and Suzie Mathers, Willemijn Verkaik etc. in Wicked, and McPhee has played the role on Broadway after all, so I say she should get a fair chance over here. But then I also think that as McPhee isn’t really a household name at all over here, her casting seems a bit random, and tons of other British actors would’ve been suitable too, which makes me reject the idea that it was cast this way purely to bolster ticket sales. Seems more likely that they wanted a safe pair of hands to open the show over here (a la Book of Mormon). Besides, we’ve heard plenty of rumours of a ‘star’ taking on the role for a short run, before someone else takes over. Oh well, I’m still looking forward to this one opening as I love the music and think the story is relatively fluffy but also quite powerful and apt for the moment. Bring on the rest of the cast announcements, I say.

Ooh I've heard other people say similar things about the one above. I went to the Studio 88 West End Brunch a few weeks ago and thought it was absolutely brilliant. Lovely food, loads of great performances and a fun energy throughout. studio88.bar/west-end-brunch/

Oh yeah, most likely. But still... get all hands on deck to get this thing going imo. They've been talking about it for years at this point!

I'm not the world's biggest Wicked fan, but I'm so confused as to why they keep pushing this back. It *screams* money maker to me.
- well known musical in the public consciousness (Especially with the Wizard of Oz clout too) - opportunity for cool design/ effects - Love story/stories central to the plot
What's not to like?

Not to be *that* person, but do you think there'll be dayseats? 😉😂
I'm tempted to go, and those front row seats are dreamy, but where will the cameras be, I wonder. Ooh, this is all very exciting. I might nip in to the box office tomorrow and ask if they know anything yet.

Also, I love Sheridan but (and I'm very aware I've probably said this before) I can't see her in this particular role. Rupert Young rumour is an interesting one.

What would be the point in making an animated version of a musical where the appeal is 100% the dancing? I certainly *hope* It's live action! Although I can't imagine people dressed up as cats looking particularly... normal, on film. Excited to be proved wrong though.

I'm getting more and more excited for this as each day goes by. I think buying a tour ticket has awakened the long dormant Glee (and let's be honest, Darren Criss) fangirl in me! 😂 I know they're MEGA expensive but I almost wish I'd splurged for VIP tickets, just to get a pic, for old times same. Although my top price seat in Brum cost about one fifth of the price of the Gold VIP package, so yeah, I'll do without!

I prayyyyyyy that Gavin Creel will be in this as he's my fave musical theatre performer bar none and Waitress is one of my fave shows of recent years. That being said from what I gather on social media he and Sara are good friends and so his presence at the launch may not have meant anything.

Yep, I went to the innaugral one. Great fun and a nice way to keep the party going post-show. Just a shame it's on a Monday night so I've not been back yet. Would definitely recommend though.

Also, little Cosette is in the show for what, 5 mins? And she's called 'Cosette' plenty of times. And then when she grows up the first you see of her she's following her dad around and she's referred to by name pretty sharpish too. I just don't see how it's confusing for audiences who are paying attention, or how it trivialises the story at all. Both actresses are playing Cosette. That's literally all there is to it?
It's not like the Little Cosette and Little Eponines have EVER been cast to be exact feature by feature match-up twins of their older counter parts anyway.
It's seems pretty obvious to me that it doesn't bother most people on this board, audiences aren't boycotting the show and it's been cast inclusively for years across continents. It's unlikely to change so the solution to your issue might have to be 'live with it'.

Yes I was at the launch and I thought all three songs sounded great live. I went from being casually interested in the musical as just something new to watch to deciding then and there that I needed tickets. I've only listened to the videos I recorded on my phone since, but I think the cast sounded pretty great, and the atmosphere in the room was very excited and positive. A couple of friends of mine who've seen the show on Broadway were remarking at how good everyone sounded too.
Anyway we've got a while yet til it opens and I think it'll be really special when it does.

I was there tonight too and totally agree, it was just perfection. Highlights for me off the top of my head were You Could Drive A Person Crazy and Not Getting Married. Oh and Rosalie was perfect as Bobbie, I can't imagine the role any other way, it felt so apt, especially in 2018.
I've loads more thoughts but it's late. But basically, if you've not already seen this/got tickets then you need to book now.

I saw this last week and gosh it's a gorgeous little show isn't it? Just feels really special, with beautiful music and such a human story. I adored John Tiffany's direction of the original production. Peter Rowe's is much less subtle but no less effective. And the cast are pretty fantastic too. I saw two Guys on the West End (David Hunter, who I think is just brilliant in everything, and Ronan Keating whose performance I enjoyed too) and I'm glad to have now added Daniel Healy to that list. Did anyone see him understudy the role on the West End? I was so enthralled by the realness of his performance. Emma Lucia was equally wonderful as Girl. If You Want Me felt completely magical. I loved the warmth she brought to the role. You really felt the connection between the two characters from the off. I got goosebumps several times and was definitely holding in my tears at the end. This is a show which I want everyone who loves theatre to see. If only Hornchurch wasn't such a trek out or else I'd be back in a heartbeat! Anyway that's just a collection of random thoughts but I wrote a much more detailed (and eloquent, hopefully) account of the show here - www.talkstageytome.co.uk/2018/10/review-once-musical-queens-theatre.html if anyone fancies it...

Isn't Tyrone a bit old for the role? I know he looks young, but isn't there a chance casting directors may be put off by his age? Maybe, but let me dream...

The problem being that she is fair skinned and blonde - a noticeably pale white lady. Cosette, introduced as a little girl, was a pale skinned white child with light hair. Cosette as an adult? A black lady. I find it an insult to the integrity of the piece, the intelligence of the audience and the legacy of the show that such a horribly misaimed piece of diverse casting has taken place. I know this has been discussed here before and I personally really really really don't think it matters, but even so calling it an 'insult to the integrity of the piece, the intelligence of the audience and the legacy of the show' and 'a horribly aimed piece of diverse casting' seems like a very strong reaction for what is, in my eyes, a totally normal and very common casting decision which Les Mis has been doing for years in productions around the world. Amara Okereke is a lovely performer who sings and acts the role very well as far as I've heard (I've not seen her in the show but friends have, and I saw her in the Sondheim Student Performer of the Year Awards). We're told very clearly a couple of times who characters are in relation to eachother, e.g. that Cosette is adopted by Val Jean, and Fantine is her mother, bio dad unknown. It's not hard to keep track, I don't think. As you know the show so well, even less so. Anyway, that's just my two cents. I've definitely heard a lot of people commenting on the youth of the cast recently too, and that's something I've also noticed. It's nice to have loads of grads in there, giving them a great job out of drama school and shaking up the production with new blood, but it'd be nice to have more of a range of ages. An ensemble comprised almost entirely of 21 year olds in very noticeable.

Never heard him sing but I liked him in Baby Driver.
