If Rachel goes into the cast before Canterbury (my local theatre is the Marlowe) then I am SO there every night! Fingers crossed!

You'll need to be there VERY early, Stagey. I've had reports for the last few weeks that by 9am there are 20 to 40 in line. Gosh, okay, I'll aim for my earliest possible train then! Thanks theatremonkey!

Having planned out my schedule for my trip to NY, the chance I'll even have time to enter the lottery is looking very slim, so I've been listening to the cast album incessantly (again) instead. I'm thrilled that this show is all but confirmed for a West End transfer, but 2017 feels so far away! As far as casting goes, I'd love for the whole cast to come over, but if not, I've been trying to dream up a hypothetical UK cast. I'm thinking Rachel John (yep, I'd cast her in anything and everything!), Lily Frazer, and Lucy St. Louis for Angelica, Eliza and Peggy respectively!). Just a bit of fun really, but still, it's exciting to think of this show coming over at some point. Hopefully as soon as possible!

When I saw Phantom a few weeks before xmas I was a bit disappointed to be honest. It was my second time seeing it live but I was a big fan of the 25th anniversary DVD and the olc so I was very familiar with how amazing the show could be. Unfortunately it all felt a bit dated and slow. I felt the set and costumes could have done with sprucing up a bit too.
The music sounded great and the cast was mostly fantastic (Phantom, Raoul and Christine were perfect), but overall I wasn't blown away.
Still, seeing it again on Saturday night. Hopefully it'll be particularly energetic etc as it'll be JOJ's last.

I hate to be that person, but what is the dayseat queue usually like on a saturday. I'm coming up from Canterbury to see JoJ's last phantom and my friends and I were thinking about doing a matinee of Miss Saigon before it leaves.

Oh. My friend and I just booked for this. It'll be nice to see something new on a big stage. As I've said before, the West End feels pretty stagnant right now to me. And Emma Williams is a plus, she's got a lovely voice.

I just booked the shows I'm seeing on my trip next week (Allegiance, The Colour Purple, Finding Neverland (Not my no. 1 choices but i had to compromise based on what my casual theatre fan friends wanted)) and so I'm praying this all blows over soon!

Never saw the production at the National but just googled it and it looks like the same set to me.

Ha! I wish. The earliest I could get was Jan 1st 2016. The furthest ahead I've ever booked anything! I held off until the cast announcement, but the trio looks fab!

Just caught the tour of An Inspector Calls at my local theatre and unfortunately, thought I still think the plot is brilliant, and left the theatre wracking my brains as to what actually happened at the end, the production as a whole was not very enjoyable unfortunately. I thought some of the symbolism was very heavy handed, the cast seemed badly directed (I couldn't fathom why the actress playing Sheila kept maniacally laughing all the time!) and overall there were so many bits of direction that didn't make sense.
There was a new character, a little boy, who ran around trying to get underneath the curtain at the beginning of the show, he kept appearing throughout the show and the end he stood next to the inspector while he delivered his final speech?! WHY? I didn't understand it.
The set design, while clever, was a bit over the top in my opinion. And the characters help to 'build' it at the start. Burling's walking cane becomes the handrail for the staircase. Again.. why? Plus it looked really odd!
Also at least the first 10 minutes of the action took place inside a house on stage with all the walls shut, so we could not only not see what was going on, we couldn't hear anything either because the house wall stopped the voices from traveling as much. I understood the symbolism but it just didn't work practically.
There were some redeeming elements. Some symbolism was clever (Mrs. Burling walking outside on a carpet to keep from getting dirty while the children all ended up a bit bedraggled etc. ) and some of the cast were very good (Mrs Burling and Gerald and the Inspector in particular. I'll have to find my programme for names). But yes, overall I wasn't keen on this production. Such a shame, and I really do love the play.
