I'm assuming Merry Wives is a revival of the "Essex" setting of a few years back based on the artwork? Enjoyed it OK but wouldn't go back to see it again. Had it been a new production it would have been the one thing in this line up I'd have booked for. Different creatives, it's a new production

Thanks again thistimetomorrow for the tip - I managed to grab two stalls seats for £50 each, down from £110 on tkts website the morning on the show (still way more than I usually like to spend, but we were determined to see it, and were actually really impressed with the view, and legroom, from our seats in Row R). As for the show itself, I REALLY enjoyed it. I'd seen Les Mis a few years ago and then caught the concert-staged version last summer (also with Jon Robyns as JVJ) but this is definitely the most enjoyable experience I've had seeing Les Mis live. My friend and I had both seen Jon Robyns in several productions before, and he really shone here. A fantastic acting performance which really carried the show (as you would expect from the role of JVJ). I liked how the anger and trauma of JVJ's time in the chain-gang mellowed throughout the show, but was still perceivable until his end - not something I've noticed in other interpretations of the role. The confrontation with Javert was a lot more violent than I remember from the older production (in general there were a lot of enjoyable aspects of the new staging which I think improved upon the previous version). Vocal highlights were Valjean's Soliloquy and, surprisingly for me since it's not a song I usually particularly enjoy, Bring Him Home. Overall, a fantastic performance. I'll definitely be booking to see him as the Phantom in PotO. Other standout performances were Nathania Ong as Eponine, and Robert Tripolino as Marius was much more lovesick and childish than I've previously seen, which really suited the way in which the other student characters regard him. I loved the lighting and sound design for the barricade moments, and the sewers scenes, and didn't miss the turntable at all throughout. Les Mis wasn't a show I was desperate to return to, but I actually really enjoyed it. Goes to show it's worth revisiting the long runners every now and then...

My friend and I saw Jon Robyns' JVJ yesterday and thought he was outstanding. We're already planning a trip to see Phantom in hopes of seeing his performance now. After seeing the excellent JOJ / Nadim Naaman / Celinde Schoenmaker trio a few years ago, I wasn't planning to see this show again, but there you go!

I don't suppose any discounts ever pop up, do they? I'd buy via TKTS on the day. They reduce seats to around £35 or £49.50 Ahh perfect, we'll try that. Thanks for your help. We really wanted to catch Jon before he leaves!

I'm looking at tickets for next weekend (trying to catch this with a friend while I'm in London) but even the cheapest seat up at the back is almost £60. I don't suppose any discounts ever pop up, do they?

Rob Houchen has been one of the top 'dream casting' names online from the start - I feel like for so many people he'd be the perfect Christian. Myself included!

Reading over this thread while trying to decide whether or not to book a ticket. TGM is my favourite Tennessee Williams play, and the John Tiffany production we had in London a few years ago is still one of my favourite things I've ever seen, which imo really captured the memory play vibe and emotion. I seem to remember that it was filmed for archival purposes, but no idea if it can actually be viewed anywhere now.
Interesting decision to use separate actors for Tom in this production, can anyone (in spoilers) go into a bit more detail about how they do it?

Has anyone else ordered the signed programme with their ticket by Ticketmaster? I can download my ticket but not the voucher for the programme. I've sent a message to Ticketmaster and waiting to hear back. This has just reminded me that I ordered a programme too, so just checked and I'm also missing the print-at-home programme voucher. Have emailed ticketmaster as well but if you hear back from them it'd be great if you could report back. Agree with everyone else, I think this is going to be really special!

Managed to book with Ticketmaster in the end after the payment not processing on the LW Theatres site. Have now seen I've been charged 3x for the tickets I tried to book with LW, after the website told me the payment couldn't be processed each time I tried. Hopefully that can get resolved quickly, but otherwise, YAY, I've got my tickets!

I saw this last weekend actually, and loved it. Excellent cast, and music played very well.
Didn't actually mind Gavroche giving the finger to Javert (although I didn't feel that it added much either), but the thrusting in Drink With Me definitely felt a little bit out of place. Kind of at odds with the solemnity of the song.

I saw Emmy Raver-Lampman's name mentioned recently and she's jumped right to the top of my Elphaba dream-casting list. She's got a musical theatre background but is also now in a pretty popular Netflix show (The Umbrella Academy), which she's great in! Seem like a perfect choice.

I grabbed some of the £15 tix and saw this tonight at the hippodrome with my whole family (including grandma) - and they all loved it. In fact the whole audience seemed to have a fantastic time.
Was very impressed with the whole cast and especially interested to later discover the actor we saw as Elder Price was the 2nd cover!
I saw BoM a couple of times in the West End so really enjoyed returning to it now.

My friends and I picked up some tix in the sale, going Saturday 8 Feb matinee. Gavin and Sara are scheduled to do every performance (barring illness) I assume?

Funnily enough, when I saw The Son, the part where Nicholas' parents ask him to tell them what's wrong and he can't put into words exactly what it is that's making him feel the way he feels resonated massively with me (very similar to an experience I had a fair few years ago). That's one aspect of this play that I really liked.

Exciting new cast - random to announce on a saturday night but nvm. Particularly looking forward to Jon Robyns as JVJ (having previously played both Marius and Enjolras!).

For me, David Hunter, Joel Harper Jackson and Jonathan Carlton were my favourite Charlies because I could believe that all three were naive young men just out of uni and with no real life experience, who had been thrust into an impossibly difficult situation (taking over the factory), and that's what made the character so endearing. I saw Killian on the first day of his 3 day return and thought he acted the role brilliantly and sang it really well too, but I just didn't feel as much sympathy to him as I did to the others bc he gave off an air of experience (maybe it was the JVJ beard?) which was at odds with what the story told us about Charlie.
That being said, I am SUPER excited to see the film at some point. So brilliant that we get to keep a lasting memory of this production.

I saw a preview screening last week and enjoyed it so much that I'm dragging my family to see it on the weekend.
When it comes to beloved Disney animated movies, Aladdin has always stood out from the crowd for me (alongside a couple of others eg. Mulan and The Little Mermaid) with its solid story, gorgeous songs, and a sprinkling of that unmistakable Disney magic. And in this live action remake, Guy Ritchie has added in fast paced action, thrills and guts, elevating it way beyond it's live action remake predecessors (the less said about the Beauty and the Beast remake the better imo - having seen that I tempered my expectations for this movie MASSIVELY, and was subsequently REALLY impressed with this one!)
Mena Massoud is a real diamond in the rough as Aladdin- everyone's favourite rags to riches Prince - sharing the screen with Naomi Scott as Jasmine. For me they nailed their characterisation, and yep, their singing was also really lovely. The A Whole New World scene made me tear up, and as the audio is now on Disney's YouTube chanel I've listened to it a bunch of times over.
I'm still not really a fan of the idea of remaking all of Disney's iconic animations, but if they MUST do it then this is the way to go.

Saw this tonight and will post more in depth thoughts tomorrow but my god, I LOVED IT! I thought Anne-Marie Duff gave one of the best performances I've seen in a long time in the title role, Arthur Darvill was hilarious and SO charming as Oscar, and the whole ensemble was a mishmash of fabulously talented individuals. Cliche alert: Beverley Knight blew the roof off the Donmar with Rhythm of Life, as she has done in every show I've seen her in. Oh and I thought McGregor's choreo was really nifty. Was dubious about going after some of the less than stellar things I'd read on here / in the papers, but tbh it's the best thing I've seen all year, I think. Damn you must have seen some really terrible shows this year. Tbh nothing has really stood out yet except this (ooh, edit: I forgot Come From Away came out this year, so make this the second best thing), but even so... idk what to tell you, this production just worked for me. Totally understand why it wouldn't for others though. It's not perfect by any stretch. I've also got to sing the praises of young+free, the school groups I was sitting near were clearly LOVING IT, and has a VERY audible reaction to the final scene. Such a great initiative to get young people into the theatre, in the good seats, and leave them with something to think about.

Any offers cropping up for this one in Wimbledon? I just looked for Saturday night and both shows have the Upper closed and are maybe a third sold. So I imagine we will see comps or offers going out. I'd be really surprised. Thanks! Yeah that's what I thought. Working with a lower budget because I'm bringing a non-stagey friend (it's the call of Green Day!), so I'd hate to buy a cheap seat and then end up stuck behind swathes of empty seats. TOTAL vibe killer. Especially for something as high octane as AI. Anyway I'll keep an eye out...
