I’m just depressed that you’d call Chess a “legacy” show. To me that’s South Pacific or My Fair Lady :-) Well maybe not “legacy”, maybe... err... I give up. 🤷🏻♂️ No, it’s only because it made me feel old :-) Don’t give up!

Sometimes to pays to *read* the programme too! ;-) Sorry, just taking out many years of frustration about Jim Steinman not getting the credit he deserves for his songs, because Meat Loaf took all the limelight. Shouldn’t have been aimed at you. No I didn't feel you were aiming at me haha. As I said, I know the name but I don't know anything about him. Check out the piece in the programme, just before the song list. Will explain the history of the show.

What odd comments! Chess has been around since the 80s. You can’t compare to Wicked. What’s being in Victoria got to do with anything? Hamilton? Starlight? Unlike Broadway the West End is spread out. Plus these new Collesium 5 weeks runs are just one offs. They aren’t staged so they can tour. On another note I’m glad they have fixed the lip sync issue! Let’s put it this way, I have little to no knowledge of more older/classic shows and I genuinely thought this was a new show until I looked it up.. Sometimes I say things that don’t quite make total sense. Lesson learned, always research a show before posting on its thread... Edit: I thought it might help by mentioning that I’m 14 and I only really got into theatre and its ways in late 2016 which is why I’m not really familiar with “legacy” shows like this. I try to go to the theatre as often as I can but I’m just not as much of an expert as others. I’m just depressed that you’d call Chess a “legacy” show. To me that’s South Pacific or My Fair Lady :-)

Sometimes it pays to buy a programme. I did buy a programme. Still doesn't stop me just reading Bat Out of Hell haha. I know the name but I don't know who he is. Sorry. I'm sure he's a lovely guy tho Sometimes to pays to *read* the programme too! ;-) Sorry, just taking out many years of frustration about Jim Steinman not getting the credit he deserves for his songs, because Meat Loaf took all the limelight. Seriously?! You are joking right? (sometimes it’s hard to tell!) It’s “Jim Steinman’s Bat Out Of Hell”, with songs written entirely by Jim Steinman, of which “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” is one. It’s not a Meat Loaf show. (ML has covered the song, but much later than Celine’s cover version of the original) I really haven't followed this show at all so I don't know. All I read of the title is Bat Out of Hell. To me, I only know Celine's version of the song. Sometimes it pays to buy a programme.

Oh and why was there a Celine Dion song in the second act? I recognised it instantly, did Meat Loaf do a cover of Celine?! Seriously?! You are joking right? (sometimes it’s hard to tell!) Has anyone set up an alert for Chess on TodayTix, and then kept getting notifications that tickets are on sale only to find that they aren’t actually? Yep!

The performance from ‘Jamie’ has saved me some money. Had been tempted to see it, but not now.
I absolutely adore Linzi Hateley.

Seeing Joseph back in 1991 sparked a lifelong love of theatre, and musical theatre in particular. So glad to hear they are doing a celebration for the 50th anniversary! Ditto! (except I didn’t see it until 1992, when Philip Schofield has taken over)

I never think of Mary Poppins as a “Disney Musical”. I know they co-produced, but it feels like just a Cameron Mackintosh show to me. And I think it turned out much the better for it.

Where does the new version of The Beauty Underneath on the Platimun Collection come from? Is this what it’s like in the US Tour? I would assume so. Certainly this is the version they used in the Hamburg production which was the second sit down for what was basically the Aussie production. Thanks, can’t say I thought it was an improvement on the original. Shoehorning the original Phantom theme in seems a bit desperate too.

Don’t think I could wish “good luck” to someone being paid by the Daily Mail. I’d rather wish good luck to those whose lives are affected by the hate the Daily Mail spews. Don’t really care if you’re writing the vile opinions the “paper” expresses, or just writing the horoscope in it, you’re still working for them.

Thank you. I would love to have been there. But £75 to see a chat and those six songs was never going to be justifiable to my bank account.

The complaint seems to be that the show has not been cancelled. That’s what’s people think should have happened. Tickets would then have been refunded, but as the show is going ahead they won’t be refunded. My comment about people being penalised related to that. Why should the show be cancelled when there are people who *can* get there?

They are talking about exchanging tickets for other shows though, but understandably need to investigate the logistics of that. But some people can make the show today, so why should they be penalised because others can’t?

Tell me more about the “Autograph Effect”! :-) It's something me and a few others have noticed in shows where Autograph (Audio Company) provide the Sound Designer/Associate SD/consultation/etc. Shows start quiet and volume increases during the first 30mins or so. I don't know if its deliberate or not, but its definitely noticeable and have heard many comments on it. Hamilton, Matilda, Book of Mormon, all strong examples of shows where the first few numbers lack the dynamic required to set the show off but yet build to appropriate levels further into the production. I've just started calling it the Autograph Effect because it only seems to be on shows they're involved with. Ah, thanks. I’ve also noticed this at a lot of shows, though have never checked who the sound designer was. Next time it happens I’ll check the programme.

What were those in your opinion? Interested to know. Most notable: -Lack of sub in the Royal Circle - Given it's a hiphop musical fundamentally, it musically didn't sound like hiphop at any point due to the creative sound design choices. Kicks and Bass/Sub elements were completely lost. -Really obvious overuse of 'De-essers' on principal cast members, which had a detrimental effect on speech intelligibility. -The complete lack of any impact in that opening number. -The Autograph Effect of starting a show quiet and slowly getting louder. Tell me more about the “Autograph Effect”! :-)

Murray Head is the only one that would tempt me to book. I’m a sucker for seeing an originator of a role.

God Mel is soooo annoying. Patti is going to love her in rehearsals... Really happy with our winner. Great performance. I liked the strong arms, Evita-style, doing all the work. No jumping up and down, and no silly dancing boys. I hope we can come up with a strong concept for the actual night. Already in the diary. I also loved her arms
