Yes it reminds me of Hair too, and doesn't look at all like Caissie Levy's character, Diana. They should have just reused the Donmar artwork which was far classier.

I'm up in Edinburgh, and whilst the cost of getting to and from London isn't too bad, the cost of hotels has absolutely rocketed: pre-pandemic, you used to easily be able to get a Premier Inn room for c£45-60/night - now it's somewhere between £60 - £100, and you'll be lucky to pay less than an average of £75/night. And you no longer even get housekeeping at PIs, unless you ask specifically. An extra £30 per night for two - four nights is one less show - or two, depending on how well I can do on discounts. This leaves me looking at the budget end of the IBIS offerings, where the rooms are very basic, and the towels in the bathrooms small and scratchy. And I won't do Travelodge after they over-booked the one I'd reserved for my brother's wedding, were rude on the phone to me about it, and completely ruined the whole weekend. Also they apparently believe it's 2006 with their 30 minutes of free wi-fi per day... So that's just fewer visits to London, and a subscription to NT at Home to try to allow me to see some of the more popular stuff. Agree entirely about Premier Inn. I used to stay in the Hubs and you could get a night for a decent price. Now when I look, it's around £170 for a random Wednesday night, so I no longer use them. I just look through booking.com now to see if I can get a deal. I also have to factor in airport car parking, flights to London and train/coach to/from the airport so it all adds up when the ticket prices themselves are now boogaloo. And I can't do rush tickets because I have to plan my London trips like a military operation to arrange cover for childcare, work etc.

This show has 3 main co-producers, all of whom are experienced: Wessex Grove, Gavin Kalin & Playful.

I'm fuming. Yet again we're going to miss an event because of stuck trains. This is getting ridiculous now. It's every week this is happening. An hour's contingency is nowhere near enough anymore. Is there some way to contact the Savoy Box Office to resell our tickets for tonight's sold-out performance? I'm really sorry to hear this happened to you, too.

Two quick queries: 1. When did the Bridge become eligible for the Oliviers? 2. Stranger Things is neither a comedy play nor an 'entertainment', is it?! 1. I believe the Bridge became eligible sometime this year or maybe late last year. They probably wised up and paid for the Society of London Theatre membership knowing they'd get a lot of noms for Guys and Dolls. 2. I REALLY have no clue. I thought it would be considered a "play". A friend asked me today why Harry Potter was classed as a play whereas this isn't. I presume because the show is such a spectacle they've reduced it to "entertainment" like Totoro last year. It's interesting. If you look at the Official London Theatre Show Guide, Stranger Things is firmly included in the 'Drama' category, and not the 'Comedy / Entertainment' one.

I booked, when it went on sale, for June. I almost can't wait to see it now if it's still on!

It sounds like it has vibes of Van Hove's Obsession with Jude Law. That was nuts too.

I can't get the performance of 'Magic' from Front Row on Radio 4 out of my head. Like that song a lot.

Wonder if that means SATSE will extend beyond August.

This one sank without a trace? It had such good reviews too. Alas, it's been 5 years already.. It was so sad. All arranged for a West End transfer just as Covid took off. I feel particularly sad as a cast member is a good friend and she caught long covid and is still not ready to return to work. So Covid turned a West End role into forced retirement. That is really awful to hear, nick. I hope your friend makes some good progress soon and I wish them back to full health. It always seemed odd to me that this play appeared to just be cancelled from the offset whereas others were postponed. Many others came back and so far no suggestion that this play may still happen. This, Sunday in the Park and City of Angels really were the ones that got away.

Such a weird feature in the prime 7.50am showbiz slot, when there isn't actually a musical in existence yet as far as I could tell, and with no announcement. Always nice to see David Benedict though!
But honestly, I'll be amazed if this sees the light of day in the West End; a run of the mill tour perhaps. Most people under the age of 45 have never heard of them and anyone who does remember them wouldn't actually want to see a musical about them, or using their songs, let's be honest.

Love reading everyone else's thoughts on this show but I must say that I thought Siobhan Redmond was great!

I wonder why Giant is listed as being performed at multiple venues. London and New York? I thought this was an error. When I scrolled down, one of the performances of it was listed as the Jerwood Upstairs, which can't be right. Also the times on the website weren't right either, it said something like Monday to Friday at 2.30 and 7.30 when in fact there are very few midweek matinees, if any.

It was a great shame that Sonia Friedman for some reason was never able to bring it in again. Such bad luck for the cast and creatives.

Fair enough, just thought a WE transfer would be fairly alluring.

Sorry to be a naysayer but I think it's a slightly underwhelming season. Only two main shows in the Jerwood Downstairs (in addition to Echo running for two weeks), and there seems to be a gap between 27th July and 20th September. I see the Dahl play was originally developed for the Bridge. Upstairs is better.

I'm still curious as to why Alex Young didn't do the transfer of Standing At The Sky's Edge when she was free to do this.

I saw this last night and have to agree with much of what others have said. There's just a little bit too much going on in terms of the multiple characters, video scenes and never ending revolve for us to really focus at times on the nuances and depth beneath the surface. The scene which I thought was the best in the play was the longer beach scene at the top of Act 2, which didn't feel quite so rushed and allowed the characters to breathe a little.
Still, it wasn't dull at all and the staging is so dynamic that it didn't feel overlong (we were out at 10.10pm). I really liked the overall blue aesthetic of the set and props by Fly Davis, and I thought the acting was universally excellent. I must admit to being thrilled to finally see Keeley Hawes on stage, being a fully paid up member of the DI Lindsay Denton fan club (Line of Duty). And This Life means a lot to me as a show so I was very pleased to see Jack Davenport also. I liked the chemistry between them.

Not the longest first half that I can recall Years ago there was a almost full text Hamlet touring with Stephen Dillane, Donald Sinden and Gwen Taylor in the cast. The interval was 150 minutes in... I remember leaving the theatre after 11pm ** A quick Google reminded me that this was 1994/5 and directed by Peter Hall Yes, it ran at the Gielgud and as I recall, Sir Donald took his leave before the curtain call, and who could blame him?

Just out of the matinee. I adored this. One of the best new plays I've seen in aeons. They're all superb but Lorraine Ashbourne just chews the whole thing up and spits it out. Her performance is a tour de force. Yeah, it gets a bit soapy by the end but hell, I went along with it hook, line and sinker. This just simply must transfer somewhere!
