Back to the show and annoyingly there seems to be a big gap of no performances between 10th and 27th June, which is of course when I was looking to book, so that I could nail The Pillowman, Patriots and A Little Life on the same trip. What a pain.

'Luvvies'? I'm always amazed when people who seem to like theatre, and presumably feel a large amount of gratitude for all the pleasure theatre people have given them over the years, reveal their contempt for them - which is what the word 'luvvies' suggests to me. Writers, directors, actors - why the need to mock them? We've just seen a fantasist called Liz Truss destroyed in 44 days as PM. Most of the luvvies would have put a fantasist called Jeremy Corbyn into that job. That's why they get mocked. Because they talk about truth when they have a very tenuous relationship with reality. *What* on earth are you talking about?

Any more word on what the big play opening after Noises Off might be?
[This should probably be in General, sorry!]

Probably depends on the reviews and Mescal's schedule. I *think* Barnaby said a new play based on existing material is going to the Phoenix. If that is the case it couldn't be Streetcar. Yes, he definitely didn't mean Streetcar.

I wonder if it might see a transfer given how well it's sold. There's a gap between Mother Goose closing and The Pillowman opening at the Duke of York's so could fit in there for a short run. The Phoenix is another option. According to mrbarnaby a major play is heading to the Phoenix.

I would be absolutely amazed if they did this without Katie Brayben.
Really hope that whenever a further run happens, it will be in London and that they don't do an American Psycho style move straight to NY.
WE transfers of Almeida musicals just never seem to happen!

A lot of the information here is not quite correct. Of course sometimes unexpected things happen and choices have to be made. But remember things are often planned months or even years ahead of being announced to the public. Best of Enemies booked its West End transfer before the original run was over, but didn’t announce it for six months. Do you know if the West End transfer is still going ahead?

Any word on where this might go? I’ve heard a transfer may not be for a good while, if at all here. Ah you're kidding!? What with this suggestion and the Into the Woods no show, to use the words of Ryan, late of this parish, "I might riot". If this goes straight to Broadway I'll be really p***ed off.

Irish premiere at the Gate Theatre, Dublin, in Summer 2023. Don't tease us like that Rory! Was hoping a WE run might have been announced! I still think about this show and get a bit teary, one of my best ever nights in a theatre. Very pleased that Ireland gets a version even if it wasn't the news I was exactly hoping for. Sorry andrew! I do know that really disappointing feeling of opening a post to find it's not what you were hoping for!

I think we have all expressed the same opinion about the last number/bows. As we are the experts on all things musical theatre can't someone tell Mr Gould or the producers to read our forum so that they can make the necessary changes? We know what we are talking about 😀 The whole industry reads this forum - from producers casting directors to agents. It’s free feedback that would cost thousands normally Do they?

It's a bit naive to think Into the Woods would become a smash in London when it wasn't selling that well in Bath. I take it you're not a fan, then!?

The truth is that industry people who saw it didn’t think it was good, and that includes theatre owners. It’s more than likely that none want to give it one of their theatres and I can’t blame them. Mind you, there is some absolute crap going into some of these West End theatres so some of them aren't too discerning.

I'm guessing The Shining? I don't get the upset over ITW not transferring, it's not a given for any show to transfer to the West End and these shows are not meant to be try outs. I suspect the upset isn't specifically because London doesn't get a transfer, its more personal disappointment of not being able to see the show. Noone ever said "Im looking forward to seeing the west end run after the Bath try-out".People were under the impression there would be the opportunity to see the show in a location more convenient to visit. A trip to Bath in the summer holidays isn't feasible for a lot of people for a myriad of reasons (travel, work commitments, family commitments, etc) and there was real confidence in the view that they'd get a chance to experience it in London. As that view fades, there's bound to be despondency. Furthermore, this was a production that started it's life in London, so there was always a strong belief it would return. Couldn't have put it better myself. The Bath run was always set up with a London transfer in mind and one of the producers Anthony Lilley had relatively recently tweeted to someone querying if there was a producer who could give it a London run something along the lines of 'it has producers attached so don't worry about that". Several posters on here were saying that a Phoenix announcement was imminent (although as an aside I am noticing these days that many things being said on here are not coming to pass or are proving inaccurate in the end, but hey, plans change). This was a show that I had tickets booked for at the Old Vic, was disappointed when it was cancelled, and I couldn't get to Bath within its limited run there. Am a big Sondheim fan and will be disappointed if this doesn't arrive when Sunday in the Park has already been binned.

Less than optimistic at this point; from the chatter that’s been going on. Well this is very disappointing, if accurate. This is the one I really want to see and was waiting to hear about before I book my next London trip. Is this what you have heard too, danb and Being Alive?

Sounds like Mrs Doubtfire is about to announce very soon so it probably won't be the Shaftesbury. Gillian Lynne not free until June so a bit of a wait if it's there.

Having watched the 'The Banshees of Inisherin' recently, I'm reminded that (in general) actors tend to do really good work in a McDonagh piece. With this being such a strong script, I have high hopes. When this was announced first time round with Steve Pemberton and Aaron Taylor Johnson, where the other 2 actors announced too? I can't remember. I'm interested to see who will be joining the cast. No, just those two were announced.
