I can't believe Patrick Vaill didn't get an Olivier nomination for this.

Presumably a different production to the Tim Pigott Smith / Michelle Dockery Bath production from a few years ago which played at the Old Vic.

I thought by stage he was referring to ‘next stage’ meaning the 4 part teleseries. I don't think so.

I can’t see it transferring to a commercial house. Very expensive to move a show this size. I would imagine they will go the FOLLIES/LONDON ROAD route and keep it in-house with a remount in their next season. Another stage, says Baz. I think it will be a commercial West End house.

Is Baz hinting at a transfer, or is he just speculating? "...this show will have a long life on another stage following its limited run at the National." Definitely looks like a transfer pointer. Nice to see Baz back with a column! I've missed him!

When Motive first was announced, the dates from 27th June to 15th July were listed on the NT website but then were subsequently removed. I had queried the gap between 10th and 27th because that was when I had wanted to see it if possible. It was obviously always planned to announce these extra performances.

How does this version compare to other productions? I've seen the 2012 arena tour and then the Kenwright tour in 2015 with Glenn Carter returning. Whilst I liked the arena tour for the spectacle and the cast involved, I actually think the Kenwright tour was more powerful and emotional and can remember being in tears by the end. Give me the Kenwright tour anyday.

I feel like this has already been said upthread but I heard from somebody who works at the Lyric that this was all pencilled in for a January-May (ish) run and then either staff spoke up about being uncomfortable working with Gillian or they were worried about public reaction from certain people so they pulled it and 2:22 with Cheryl was their back-up. I really hope SOMEONE will take it anyway Cowardly if true

They should bring it to the Haymarket.

So, if The Crucible is going to the Gielgud and it's heavily speculated that A Strange Loop is going to the Apollo, where's The Piano Lesson going? Haymarket? Or is TPL now not happening? I hope it is coming but this makes me think it might not be:

It'll be the Apollo before Time Traveller's if this is accurate surely you thought it would be The Apollo too, no?

100% not happening at the Apollo, it's at a very different theatre (not on Shaftesbury Ave) clearly the real plans are becoming a bit more common knowledge than a random twitter-er's flawed speculation.. Well it's not common knowledge to me

Almost funny how wrong the initial tweet ended up being ! How do we know yet it was wrong? We still don't know where it's going.

Many West End theatres have yet to announce their shows from the end of April onwards. Should see some announcements imminently, particularly in relation to plays.

Anybody know if the main 3 are generally appearing in recent shows. Thinking of getting a ticket to today’s matinee but only if they are on really. And yes I know that it’s hard to predict and that we don’t just go to see the leads I think Reece and Amanda had a recent run of covid and chest infections etc but were all back on last Saturday.

After last night's reception, Standing at the Sky's Edge will clearly be crossing the river and heading to the glittering West End. I'm being serious...for once. 🤞🤞🤞 I hope it does either extend or transfer as the Olivier run is so short. I can see this doing really well.

Think it was more a rumours and tittle tattle thread Jon Absolutely! Not worrying about it in the least, just want a few fun rumours for us all to play around with!

A few years ago I used to love coming to the Young Vic but nothing remotely appeals in the new season. I agree. Nothing of interest to me.

@sohoplace, Haymarket and Phoenix free from end of April Apollo, Gielgud and Garrick free from end of May Ambassadors free from end of June Gap at Criterion currently mid April to end of August if Unfriend does not extend. Obviously I’m sure most of these have shows pencilled in, and there’s plenty of rumours, but that’s 8 West End houses without shows currently on sale for the peak summer period. 8 theatres and not a hint of a rumour with the end of April only round the corner! Does anyone have any breadcrumbs they could drop us? Even The Times the other week was saying this was the place for insider info, let's live up to it!

Why in the world would it return to the National Theatre? Given the success on Broadway and on tour, surely it would deserve a proper run in the West End, especially when there's such a lack of good new shows? I love Hadestown to pieces, but I don't think a bonafide Broadway success should go into the National Theatre which receives funding to help new shows along (as it did with the first run). The trend seems to be that because it was originally produced here at the National, a West End transfer is likely to be announced by the National theatre when a new batch of productions is announced for the Southbank theatres. Where has all the talk of a transfer announcement come from today?

They have to be releasing more tickets for this don't they? When I got mine in presale there was a small handful left on the majority of the dates. Some must have been held back? They *will* be releasing more and if you missed out, you can sign up on the website for notification of when the extra tickets go on sale.
