Thanks for posting these 😊 hopefully if it catches on eventually all the shows understudies will end up here, it's interesting to see. I know from Les Mis that they still have more covers than the 2nd cover, it's been known for people to go on as Valjean having never done a cover run! I think Killian did ?? Does anyone have the understudies for Lion King ?? It's a show that's almost never spoken of on this forum I've only been around Les Mis for 1 1/2 but yeah I heard that. This cast year in Les Mis they had to get people back to cover roles. In the first week Bradley had to come back to be Enjolras because Chris was ill and Jonny hadn't had his cover run (even though he has been in the cast for ages). Edd Campbell Bird back for Marius when Craig was off and Felix hadn't done a cover run. Matthew Jeans who was a 2nd Enj 15-16 had to come back to be Enjolras but could only do the character track so Oli & Paul did the Enjolras ensemble track. David Burnip & Jordan Lee Davies had to come back to cover as swings. Katy Hanna also had to come back as a swing cover and on the second day had to go on as emg Gavroche. I have been to quite a few where ensemble cast have covered other ensemble tracks. Also this year Oli who doesn't cover Grantaire did it for one show (but he is asst dance captian). And I remember a couple of weeks everyone was ill and pretty much all the ensemble ladies got to go on as Factory Girl.

I keep all mine some are signed. I remember when I saw Urinetown and instead of taking the rip off stub bit the usher tore 2cms through the middle of it. I wasn't pleased. I have tickets from when I used to go to cinema when I was younger most of which have faded sadly. (I really dont go to the cinema much any more) I also have all my tickets from going to see bands.

I have all the tickets I can get for Leicester & Birmingham it was only when Vinny was cast in it now Ryan. In all fairness I knew he was in it for a few days because of the full cast rehearsal photo they posted. There was Ryan sitting next to Zoe. The he turned up in the background of various cast memebers instagram stories.

I went to School of Rock last night the amount of people who had to be told not to film or take photos was ridiculous. I know having a show where a lot of kids will turn up you know that there will be a lot of chatting. I expect that from Wicked as well. But a group of adults who sat behind me talked through parts of the show and at one moment where one of the children in the show gets to solo sing... laughed hystrically.

I wonder if it was due to cast illness or technical problems? If the former, you'd think that a show that's been running as lon as Les Mis would have enough former cast members in the vicinity of London to get them back to cover even at short notice. It was a tech issue with emg lighting.

Les Mis only every announce main characters that are covered not ensemble. I have found sometimes they haven't even announved that. You have the cover sheet and a cast board just right of the merch desk. As I'm a cover fan I always snap a photo of each to quickly work out who I will see cover that day (I know I'm odd). Even then I found names added but werent on and not on the board but where on. The thing with Gavroche is the boy who was meant to be on may have got ill right before the performance or during the show. I heard it happening a few times before where when Charlotte who used to cover Gavroche got a call two scenes before she had to go on. But you're very lucky I have tried to see a cover Gavroche for ages. 😁 The one time I saw a female Gavroche they didn't announce it & it wasn't on the board either, there were just names for young Cosette & Eponine then a blank where Gavroche's name would be. I don't know if they thought the public wouldn't want to see a female Gavroche or wouldn't care or what. Personally I thought she, Daisy Maywood, was the best Gavroche I'd seen & ever since I've wished Gavroche had been written as a trouser role. The only time I remember being completely baffled by an understudy's identity at Les Mis was when there was a Grantaire on who I just didn't recognise. This was around 2009-10 time when I'd seen the show several times with that cast & I knew it was neither the lead not the first cover. After very careful programme scrutiny in the interval I finally realised it was one of the swings, George Millar, who I found totally unrecognisable in a dark wig. (I can't believe that only a few years ago he was covering students & now he's covering the Dads in Mamma Mia!) It's funny how some of them look completely different. My stage Les Mis cast wise only goes to Nov 2015. But I'm very familiar with current cast at least and even when Jonny Purchase or Steffan Harri are on as Enjolras they completely different in the wig and make up. The thing with programme as well it doesn't give you who covers specific ensemble like Bamatabois, Foreman, Bishop & Grantaire either. I know who the 1st 2nd and in some cases 3rd covers are. I know all the other ensemble roles are done by the swings. This year in the cast of Foreman 2nd & 3rd covers are swings. Grantaire 2nd cover is a swing. But there was one show and I am gutted I missed it when Oli Brenin (swing) who doesn't even cover Grantaire did it. A few months ago when all 3 Enjolras' were off they had to get back in Matt Jeans who was 2nd C in 2015-16 cast. But he only did the Enjolras track not ensemble track and Oli did the ensemble track. I'm like damn it I missed this. This year I have been lucky and gone so far 43 times to Les mis and seen a lot of the ensemble have to pick up bits of other tracks that the swings can't do.

I am sitting next to this woman at Phantom who for most of the first Act played with her hair. Kerry Ellis is at phantom? I don't get it.

I too love to know who I am seeing, I'd hate to give a rave (or negative) review to someone who wasn't even on! I remember seeing Starlight Express on tour, checking and being told it was a full cast and being somewhat surprised that Electra was suddenly white. I also saw Les mis and didn't see signs on the way in but checked with an usher and was told it was a full cast, There was an announcement but the audience around me was so loud I didn't hear. As soon as Gavroche came on it was obvious who the understudy was as it wasn't a young boy but a youngish female ensemble member! I was thrilled for the experience. I do think they should make an effort to have an accurate cast board with who is on for who, surely that is what the cast deserve. An American in Paris had one of those whizzy TV screen ones, which was broken so nobody knew who was on (after checking it seemed to be a full cast). Les Mis only every announce main characters that are covered not ensemble. I have found sometimes they haven't even announved that. Apparently Adam Linstead is returning to Les Mis, and judging from his comments, it looks like he's coming back to play Grantaire. What happened with Andy? Nothing he is still in it he is only covering unil Adam turns up. They will be down more than one person by the end of the cast change otherwise,so I guess thats why they got him in. What I dont get is why they didnt rehearse him into it before so he could just take over from Tom.

Ahh yes. I asked him but he hasn't said he is yet. Which makes me wonder if he was just covering that one show because the part wasn't there. Or it could be him, I'll find out Wednesday when I go. But I'm so impatient. West End Understudies posted it on Twitter, so I assume they had confirmation from him! I'll ask them.

Any rumours or news who Grantaire will be for 5 weeks? Now Tom has left. Andy Conaghan. He's currently first cover, as I'm sure you already know! Ahh yes. I asked him but he hasn't said he is yet. In recent days we've had reports of both Alfie Boe and Sheena Easton having to be replaced by their understudies mid-show. Does anyone know how this works with the costumes? Would an understudy have their own set or would they have to undress the star mid-hurl? I know with teams of children they are chosen partly for size so they can share the costumes. Surely an understudy can't be picked just because they are the same size as the star can they? In big productions U/S & swings have their own costumes & wigs. Both are tailor made for the performer.

Today is the last day of Tom Aldridge being Grantaire. Known for a while but everyone was told not to post it anywhere. God knows who Grantire will be for the next 5 weeks though 😕

Karis Jack anyone? Doesn't seem to be a huge amount of interest in the role of Eponine these days. I'm really interested in seeing her in it. I saw her Urinetown.

I DMed Oli he is still 2nd Cover JVJ and swing and I would assume Adam still is 1st cover. I hope Adam has a regular JVJ day like he has had for the last 2 years. Mostly because I want see how many more times I can see him as JVJ and also make it easier for me to see Oli as JVJ again. Both of whom are my faves as JVJ. And I am SOOOO happy about Danny Whitehead staying. Even more so now I know what he will be in the show.
Lee is changing tracks he will be Brujon and still 2nd Javert. I am pretty gutted he wasn't bumped up to first cover though.

I hope people still will remember that there will be a alternate once a week. Not sure if Adam Bayjou is leaving or not. All the posts I'm seeing on twitter are 'I'm gonna book for Killian'.
I am still a Bayjou & Oliver Brenin Valjean fan so it will take a lot to ever surpass those two for me.

A drama teacher I had said she never sits front row of shows because the cast probably wouldn't like what she might do. One time she sat front row. The cast started giving audience things to hold for later on. She got an apple and to the horror of the actors started to eat it 😂.

The Globe/SWP didn't or don't have understudies specifically for any roles but they get either a company member or some to read the part. I saw it twice. I forgot the actors name. It was in Richard II he was ill so one of the others read the part. He had the script in his hand but he knew most of it off my heart. Which concidering it was Shakespeare was impressive.
Then I saw in As You Like It Gary Shelford had injured himself so he couldn't do a certain scene. They had 2 ensemble members. One of which had to learn that bit for the play. I guess thats why they started getting ensemble so if someone was ill injured they could cover but not a specified understudy.
I can understand small venues not having understudies but places like Royal Court etc suprises me. I wonder why uf not understudies they don't just do what the Globe does.

Any seat at the Sam Wanamaker however they charge 10 quid to see NOTHING unless you are well over 6 foot 5 to stand. I had standing last year and didn't even bother going in the end. Just gave back my ticket. But yet they charge less to stand in the yard at the Globe and you can see pretty much everything.
Trafalgar studios has annoying seats concidering in most cases you are paying £70 for sitting in it.
I haven't sat in it but never sit row A in upper circle of Queens. I have sat AA quite a few times and always have the ones moaning behind me they can't see. But you have to lean forward.
Seats in Southwark playhouse are just padded chairs. But they are only charging £18-25 so...
I sat in the top part of Playhouse when I saw Rocky horror. There was no real rake in the seats and couldn't see a thing. I was lucky I had an aisle seat but it didnt help. I paid £40 for that.

I am getting my tickets for this in Birmingham. Has anyone been to the Birmingham Hippodrome?? I want to know what rear seats in the rear circle are like. I know its far from the stage just want to know if there is enough of a steep in the chairs that heads of those at the front dont block the stage. I've sat in pretty much every seat in the Circle at the Hipp and I don't think there's a bad seat up there. There's two steps between every row so it's consistently raked. Having just a large Stalls and Circle (with no Upper) the seats at the back feel further away but not especially high (think like the Apollo Victoria) - that said, I was pleasantly surprised how intimate it felt for such a big venue. If you're buying online, have a look at the "View From Your Seat" page - if you're buying in person at the Box Office, they have this printed off as photographs Thank you very much. I looked online at the photographs but you never can tell when it's empty if you're going to see over heads.

Plastic bag that folds to nothing and opens, kept in pocket. Either put coat inside bag or on floor under coat. Problem solved. That's the plastic bag I use at the National to transfer my backpack to so they will definitely let it in. Oh wow that reminds me the last time I went to National and had one of those little draw string bags that sits on my back. Went up to go in and they said I couldn't take it in. I always put all my stuff into a plastic bag in it anyway just in case it rains. So I took out the plastic bag rolled my bag and put it in the plastic bag. I asked the lady if this was okay she said yes. I could understand why. Same content... in now as it turned out a bigger bag.

Any news and/or rumours on cast change in june? Who will leave and who will join? Aside Tom & Vinny I haven't heard anything confirming those that are leaving. I'm there a lot as well. Some have said about auditions like Kayleigh & Sophie so I guess they could be. Paul hinted that he is going some time back. Adam Pearce announced he had done his last scheduled perf of Javert a while ago. Actually I'm sure now Sophie also said last Fantine perf. Lucy posted on her instagram to someone about making sure they go to the show by the 10th of June. The 10th June is the last day of the current cast. Also Tom starts HHCC in May so he will be off early... now do they just bump up Andy to Grantaire for the couple of weeks or are they planning on getting who ever will be Grantaire to take over??? Some sort of announcements must be soon for who will be Grantaire. Because that will be before the full cast change. I know last year Sanne left early but she was ensemble and 2nd cover. Who knows until we know. I have my own personal theories but we all do right?? I reckon if Pearce is going Lee could stay to be 1st cover Javert. I would guess Jeremy will stay maybe a 3rd year or at least half. Simon Gleeson as much as I would like him to go and Bayjou take over he will stay. I think if Sophie is going Aimee could take over as 1st cover Fantine. I reckon Hollie will stay as Eponine but not sure about Charlotte though. If Tamsin if going to leave Lucyelle could stay and be their 1st cover Mme Thenardier. I have a feeling Bayjou is leaving if that is the case I hope Oli is staying because he needs to be a 1st cover Valjean 😉😉. I reckon Danny is leaving. I think a lot of the ensemble boys are lensemb to be honest. As for ones to join. I have no idea although you probably can count on 1 or 2 2017 graduates of Arts Ed...

When I saw the cast announcement I saw Vinny Coyle had been cast in it. Who is current swing in Les Mis he is amazing performer. Then I looked it was touring at least until Sept 2018 so I wouldn't get to see him on stage for over a year. I found out he is on stage ensemble and also 1st cover Chris.
I don't have a credit or debit card (a very long story) so spontaniously I have booked a coach to Leicester for tomorrow to get two tickets for it in July and the a coach next Saturday for tickets in September & August. Yep. Its the longest I have travelled to get a ticket for anything by far. I doubt if any of my trips he will be on covering but at least he will be on stage. I have never seen the show so decided the first time watching it will be when I go in July.

I asked before and have seen it mentioned since, but can someone tell me what a cut show is? I, apparently, saw an In The Heights 'cut show' but all I noticed were fewer dancers. Do they cut lines or songs in a 'cut show' or is it just fewer cast members on stage? What Mark said howevr I did see RENT in London (not when they did the concert version) there were too many off for full show. Right at the end they did have to cut out a scene. I love cut shows if I have seen the show too many times before. Once or twice wouldn't notice a thing.
