Baking Mad with Eric Lanlard - it was about 6/7 years ago on C4 Each half hour episode had a couple of recipes from Eric plus a bake off between three people on a given theme. My theme was fruit cake. And there is no way you can cook a proper fruit cake in 2 hours - so I looked for an alternative. Ended up doing a Pain d'epices aux figues- which I served with ginger poached pears and some ginger creme fraiche. Essentially a french gingerbread with dried figs and some stem ginger - so still a fruit cake. (Recipe available - it is dead simple and virtually fat free!) One of the others did a pineapple and banana cake - and couldn't get it cool in time to frost it without everything melting. The other did a caribbean fruit cake with lots of alcohol soaked fruit - and it just didn't cook through in time. She accused me of fiddling with her oven settings - which I absolutely didn't. She was just not a very good loser!! It was a strange experience - but was interesting. My prize was a masterclass with Eric - which taught me nothing other than he buys in pre-made pastry cases and macaron shells for his patisserie in Battersea... (it all took place in his kitchens) Sadly my episode is no longer on All4 - but it is on a rather dodgy Chinese video site - with everyone dubbed into Chinese - which is just bizarre to see yourself like that!! Ah I remember watching one of the series. A friend of mine, Lynn, was on an episode I think. Yes must be odd seeing yourself dubbed in such a way. Timings can be such a pig! I remember we had initially just over 3 hrs in one of our challenges near the end, but a few days earlier they cut off 30mins! Agh. But fun nonetheless. i love the sound of your cake.

Of course that’s what it is. I note that our own masterchef, the Mary Berry Of TheatreBoard, the one and only BBC star (he knows Claudia Winkleman) BoOverall liked your post so I think he agrees! Spill, Bo! Bo isn't the only one to have appeared on a TV cookery competition... Admittedly the show I was on was a daytime one and was a series of 20 individual competitive episodes - but I still won my episode (And 2 hours was not enough time for the challenge they set us - so I subverted their expectations by producing something that fitted the brief and was doable - it just wasn't what they were expecting) Many congratulations on winning the episode. What was the show?

If that is so, it is just to create artificial drama not to give them the best chance of succeeding (which is part of the reason why I have decided against trying for GBBO again - they just set challenges that can't be done properly in the time given and that isn't how it should be) Of course that’s what it is. I note that our own masterchef, the Mary Berry Of TheatreBoard, the one and only BBC star (he knows Claudia Winkleman) BoOverall liked your post so I think he agrees! Spill, Bo! 😀😀😀 We had a few prompts on camera when something went wrong with other contestants’ dishes, partly to see if we were revelling in their misfortune, but it was really all very light and lovely. Well, in front of the cameras.................. I think with Bake Off especially there is definitely an element of creating artificial tension, and some ridiculous briefs and time restrictions almost ensure dramas. I know one year at a screen tests for Bake Off (in The Dame St Mary of Berry years) ) they asked me what I thought would be the most daunting part. I said, fully truthfully, it would be carrying those massive delicate creations in the Showstopper to the front, knowing how clumsy I am. I added I would have no qualms asking Mary and Paul to instead come to my bench to judge because I would probably have a queeny strop at myself if my tower of cream horns sagged en route.

Booked for the final performance. Piazza was, for me, the unexpected highlight of a NY trip years ago. For me it was the hot dogs. 🍕 🌭 Ah the joys of a foot-long in Central Park of an evening

Ive found a £19 ticket for this on the afternoon of west end live at the back of the stalls . Do you think its worth seeing? I would say most definitely. The score alone is absolutely ravishing, with some superb songs: “Fable” is one of my favourite musical theatre songs, and in the context of the show is superb, but it is packed with gems.

Booked for the final performance. Piazza was, for me, the unexpected highlight of a NY trip years ago. Literally booked it last minute on a whim and loved every moment. So I can’t wait to see this production. We'll be at the same performance then! It was the only performance I could feasibly see, which is also why I didn't want to risk waiting for discounts and not getting a good seat then. Yes, same reasons here. And final performances always have a great atmosphere. Looking forward to it

Well I loved the finale.,the right two in the final lip sync. I was happy for either of the two to win the crown, so I was pleased with the final outcome, And I was thrilled for the Miss Congeniality recipient: absolutely the right choice.

Mary Berry at Les Mis several months ago: she was filming an episode about London theatres. Well, she didn’t stay for the show - just half an hour in the front stalls chatting to the camera, but it was fun to have a natter and a brief catch up,

I’d be happy with either Yvie or Brooklyn. Can barely decide between the two: both tick so many different boxes for me

Poor Jon, fated to be pretty gloomy the whole way through. 😀😀 quite: he was sadly never the buoyant, cheery one with a penchant for light showtunes. Although his delivery of “Go Westeros” in full Cersei drag at Night Watch Pride suggested he had the capacity for some moments of joy in his life. I enjoyed the finale - for me it had some terrific moments (and I loved the scene around the table near the end), but it kind of fizzled out a bit. Of all the characters, I will miss Brienne the most. Loved her, and I liked her moments in the finale.

Yikes Madge really was the real low point of the whole thing. Come on, you can get that note...oh, missed it again.... Compulsive, perhaps for all the wrong reasons though.
But I love Eurovision for its many delicious eccentricities and enjoyed last night’s show, not least Graham Norton’s quips. Loved Sweden and Netherlands. Our song was just “oh ok then, it’s alright” (but Michael performed as well as could be expected) and I REALLY wanted to get on one of Australia’s poles and have a sway #notaeuphemism

The right 4 for the final (but still miss Nina): the leaver had done well but doing the same week in week out got a bit tedious. I was a bit of a blubbering Brenda with the queens’ advice to their younger selves.

Will hot-foot it from the cup final to get home to enjoy the camperies of Eurovision. Two very different events - but will be eating canapés at both 😀😀

Yes a dull lip sync, a shame for Shuga but I didn’t really mind which of the two went: Vanjie is all one note...ok, that note is fingernails down a chalk board, but I also like him a lot.
I was SO chuffed for Nina: he’s always been good but have been wanting him to fully shine. And he did this time andas stole the show. Could have watched him for ages! And - a big tick in my book - he comes across as a lovely person.

The audience behaviour is terrible at those things. No matter how much you shush them they won't stay quiet. Yes I gather so 😀 Well if they so much as even try to sing along with the 11o clock number or jeer during the bows once all has ended then I will throw my duck and bilberry vol au vents at the offenders.

Just found out I am going to my 1st football match in a few weekends: brother is refereeing the cup final so I get to see him in action in a big game. Which will be a great honour. Only downer is he tells me it is not “an interval”, there will be no musical theatre act in between the halves, and bringing canapés and Prosecco is not the done thing! 😀😀

An odd episode: the worst snatch game I can remember (barring a few fairly decent turns), best surprise runway walk ever, and the best elimination lip-sync. Fab to see the return of Jinx, one of my fave ever queens, and she is in my top 3 of all snatch game turns (along with Bianca’s and BenDeLaCreme’s)
But Silky irritates me: I have been blowing hot and cold over all series (!): certainly talented, and did so well this episode. But so ungracious: I thought Yvie was sincere with her olive branch. I get it’s a competition and she wants to win (oh boy do I get it!!) , but a little genuine warmth wouldn’t go amiss.
Nina is still my fave and I am rooting for her.

Friends in Leigh have given up and gone to Dumbo instead. What a terrible experience. Oh that is what I also felt when I sat through Dumbo 😀 For once our cinema managed without hitch this evening, after a few previous broadcasts were riddled with glitches. Follies was almost inaudible: yes Tracie, dear, I can see you’re still here, but for all your emoting I can’t bloody hear ya! I enjoyed All About Eve, once it really got into its stride about an hour in.

The Olivier Awards are intelligent and/or culturally rich...? Trying to be productive here. Compared to the rest of the dirge ITV usually outputs, yes. Unless you find yourself engaged and mentally stimulated by the “my fiancé is selling herself for cash”-type content of Jeremy Kyle or the best way to slice your toast discussions of Aemonn Holmes etc that is. Brought back memories: we didn’t make it onto the Jeremy Kyle show at the time, but my fiancée used to sell herself for a bag of mini cheddars and an Um Bongo just before church. And I could slice toasted sourdough with a rusty penknife. Still, at least we ate. Enjoyed the Oliviers, despite the glitches and cuts that have been mentioned, and it being stuck at the sphinctal end of the schedules - although I get that. I was only mildly intrigued by “Six” previously but I’m now keen to see it: but perhaps not one of the “sing-along performances”. And Sharon D Clarke’s performance: wow: as ever! A well-deserved win for her.

Looking forward to seeing this in London on New Year’s Day. I loved it in NY when I stumbled across it during previews, knowing nothing at all about it at the time. I do love the added thrill of seeing something without any knowledge, preconceptions and the like: even more of a buzz when it turns out to be a great experience!

Oh this is just SO good. I only jumped in at the last series (what a treat that was) but am also now watching from Series 1.
So many little things dangling here and there to draw you in, to make you over-analyse and wonder,......great fun.

Loved the episode, mainly for the 1st team’s evangelising in the maxi (less said about the 2nd team’s the better!), although throughout I had the hilarious “You can’t pray the gay away” in my head:
Adored Yvie’s jellyfish “fringe”: fabulous. Now Nina West is my fave of the season so far, but I am warming to Vanjie...kind of....well, it comes and goes in equal measures!
Was fun having so many lip-synching, but I would also have sent a few away who haven’t really made their mark: a shame given this opportunity they have, although I get how nerves, pressure etc can play a big part.

Which Witch was something special - one of the very greatest of all dreadful musicals. I remember seeing it on a two show day - but had to check what the other show was - and it turns out that it was Kiss of the Spiderwoman Quite a contrast in terms of quality - though Spiderwoman should have had a longer run than 390 performances. I saw those two in one day, too. It was a treat with Kiss....loved that show: Chita Rivera, wow! Then Which Witch in the evening: now that was a total hoot because of its awfulness. Those acrobatic flying witches, hilariously out of place camp dancing, endless wailing and arm waving............ I kind of loved the utter bonkersness of it all, while wrestling with disbelief at what I was seeing unfold before me - and marvelling at how the cast kept such straight faces throughout. But boy did I want to climb on the stage and join her on the stake at the end.

I nearly grabbed a cafe seat but took the row right behind in the end. They were great fun, although I found the waiter service rather slow and lacking 😀 Even Elizabeth the normally reliable housekeeper couldn’t rustle up some cheese toasties and a mug of Horlicks to serve mid-song!

Really enjoyed Sat eve’s performance, even with the fire alarm a little way into the first act that stopped the show briefly to much bemusement all around. Much preferred it to the Menier production from years ago but yes, would have loved more of an orchestra at times. I still giggle smuttily at the line “you’re girlfriend’s going to love that donkey”! Mind you, it’s practically the only thing young Alex hadn’t got round to. Well that and poor Elizabeth. 😀
And Anything but Lonely was worth the ticket price alone!
