Ok this was third preview I grant.
This will be a marmite show. At the moment to me its a mess.
But this is because of the way its been billed. All the publicity references shows like Only Way is Essex and so forth, and appears to suggest reality TV style.
However in the cold light of day this doesnt feel like theyve stuck to their guns.
Its a mishmash of modern and Tudor costuming on a set thats a similar mixture. I know this is a play of big characters but a cast that has shone in other plays this season seems to have forgotten all theyve learnt in this one.
Hard thing is I can see a good production potentially underneath it.

According to an NT tweet But I suppose they could just be confirming there are no more Lehmans. They'll need understudies, surely? Oh flip I was planning to make a return but didn't expect it to be in a tweet quoted rather than my first comment. Got my ticket and now curious considering above

End of 2017 and I'm going to stop posting and visiting here for the foreseeable future. No great loss to the forum as I don't post all the time.
However a loss to me as I used to love this site. And I wanted to say why and in a tiny way hopefully make a small ripple which may stir others to action.
The site in the last few months has become at times nothing more than a place for people to be viscious and downright rude about theatres/theatre personnel and even occasionally people on the thread at the time. Posts to discuss plays just become slagging matches.
This has happened to theatres I love and to one's I've never been too or even hate. To actors I love/indifferent about/hate. Though never directed to myself specific I have found peoples comments about others appalling to read and felt for those on the other end.
I wish all on the site all the best and who knows we may cross paths in a theatre somewhere. And apologies for any offence I may have caused.

Very personal opinion alert.
Upstart CRow last night did a far better job of the play than this production without doing any of it

Weirdly the fact its now one part has put me off seeing this at all, was because of the 2 part structure I was going. Planning to go to John at the National and possibly Pinocchio instead on same day instead

The two programs appear to have excellent precis of each seperate play within each part. Or appear to as I don't read the plot precis in programs as a rule as I like it to be a surprise. And it was coherent to follow? I would say yes

Really hard to answer as I know when I was 9 I was reading Suetonius. Scenes are quite punchy and short. Few things usually warned against for children and relevant answers: - Nudity: no outright nudity that I can remember, and where flesh is bared it's not gratuitous - Swearing: not a massive issue but the F word is said a few times - Blood: remarkably bloodless show, even Caesar's death is underplayed - Sexual Nature: Nothing overt but suggested I personally would say go for it if they're mature for their age, this certainly however is not a show for the giggling type. Okay thanks for your time Very helpful They are very sophisticated people They may enjoy it then I have the script and as you say Seems scenes are short and punchy on the whole Very excited about it No worries, have a fab time. I'm sure they'll love it

I think it's on absolute par with that, possibly even better. It is a mixture of tense and easier scenes. Can I ask how old the children are as easier to answer?

OK full download.
First of all, credit to the design team, every element of the design works. Costumes look fab, the sound design is cracking, lighting is gorgeous, music I'd happily buy a CD of. The set design gives a new look to the Swan, the first couple of rows of the Swan have a much more immersive experience than ususal. Only warning I'd have is that if you're in Gallery 2 back row especially towards the back of the theatre you may miss a bit of the design.
No weak links in the cast, every cast member has their part to shine in, and like Shakepeare's Romans there's some great parts for women.
So Part 1 goes from Verres' trial to Clodius taking power, Part 2 picks up from Cicero's return to Rome to his demise. All told over 6 plays, which are presented in two performances:
Part One - Conspirator: Cicero, Catiline, Clodius Part Two - Dictator: Caesar, Antony, Octavian
Both parts are fab, but I'd almost say I prefer Dictator over Conspirator, but it is only by a hair's breadth.

Back from 3rd preview. First of all I've not seen the Old Vic production so can't comment.
This to my mind is a hit, sure fire cast and production. Great doubling of roles so echoes are heard through the play, a brilliant set and some wonderful heart rending moments and ones of laughter.
The modern names do not do anything other than give the nameless names. Edgar has crafted an original and inventive framework that pulls themes out.
However most probably going to be a marmite show as I'm sure others will disagree about all of the above.

Monday 27th: A Christmas Carol (RSC) Thursday 30th: Imperium Pt 2 Friday 1st: Imperium Pt 1 I know Imperium is wrong way round but is only way I can do it this week. Seeing both in a day 3rd Feb so get it proper experience Do let us know what you think of A Christmas Carol! I've only been able to get tickets for January, but still looking forward to it yet also concerned that it will have strong competition from The Old Vic's version which everyone seems to be raving about. Will do, it's a hard one to choose between. I've not seen the Old Vic but i'm rooting for the RSCs because of the adapter and casting. And because Twelfth was so bad I'm praying at least one good show in the RST this Christmas

OMG so so excited. Never been to any of the Ring and a full cycle has been on my bucket list since I started 'writing' it.
Booked for Cycle 4 in Amphitheatre, surprisingly easy and quick. Not the best seats but looks like I can see some of the stage at least.
