If it doesn't feature naked buttocks during the yellow stockings scene, it is already well up on the previous RSC version. Malvolio would NEVER appear in a yellow jockstrap... Quite safe but wrong for other reasons. Sure this will be a marmite show with lots of people who love it, but for me it's got to radically rethink itself

Just back from the first preview. Even allowing for first night problems I'm not sure this savable. Feels like Love's Labour's All at Sea to me, too much like the previous far superior productions {Specific problems}- No attempt at smiling at end of the letter scene - Far far too much funny business during said scene from the 3 tricksters, totally ruins the letter - Use of Rain it Raineth song far too much during the rest of the play - Use of said song as a company wide Globesque jig at the end - Orsino's court seems to be in mourning as much as Olivia's in look and feel

Tickets released for the Camera Rehearsal and Cinema Relay. Saw this early previews and desperately wanted to take my partner, but performances were difficult to get tickets for, this albeit with cameras means I can now take them

For all it's faults I loved this production, great cast and fab set. Forgotten how this is like one big jigsaw puzzle, and enjoyed hearing people who'd never seen it discovering the story as the plays progressed, and genuinely looking forward to the next piece slotting in. Though can be seen in any order, the last scene of Round and Round is too 'final' I think and would cause you to be backfilling the story from then on, bit too 'Betrayal'

Down in Chichester and looking forward to seeing all 3 in their final performances tomorrow, and I'm in the Terrace Seating so very happy. Saw these at the Birmingham Rep some years back and loved them, plus saw House/Garden at Newbury this year and at The Divide next year so bit of a bumper Ayckbourn epic year. Please wear a carnation in your buttonhole so we can spot you. This is Chichester after all! , won't manage the Carnation but am in AA12 for Table Manners, AA16 for Living Together and BB16 for Round and Round.

I'm in London next week for 3 nights and got some matinees I can do (Monday to Wednesday nights and Wednesday and Thursday matinees).
Any recommendations anyone? Not a huge musical fan, love immersive if there's anything on of that sort

General question. I seem to have had good seats for various reasons this year in the RST. What are the Upper Circle Restricted View like nowadays. Are they stil just a column in the way for some of the space or worse due to the thrust?

And King Lear back for three weeks Directed by Greg Doran who, in breaking news, has apparently announced in this morning's press conference that she now identifies as female: "All shows in the main house and Swan are directed by women. That was part of a process. It just so happens that it's an entirely female directed programme." Since Lear is a return all new shows are I'm now ignoring this thread for a while, as I can't face all the seemingly viscious comments that will now ensue

My emotions have rollercoastered by Baemax today. And mine, after the rather wonderful God in Ruins I was excited about another Anthony Nielson albeit a repeat. Easy mistake though. Every time I search and try and glean anything all I find is Chemistry societies and football fixtures.

Only thing I've heard so far is The Wonderful World of Dissocia directed by Debbie Hannan. Why do you still go then? Still go where ? I haven't seen to Stratford for years. Boyd's announced "Revolutions" Russian season was supposed to last four years but fizzled out after 1-2. One that was announced as part of that but not produced was the co-production with a Russian company of a Chekov play. He also announced a Gogol play which as far as I'm aware never happened. Likewise a Shakespeare co-production with a Russian company. He also announced Doran would direct Boris Gudonov but in the end he directed it himself. I'd forgotten all those. Greg and Mike Poulton are apparently discussing other projects, methinks this might include The Mirror and the Light when it's published

Cant be as late as October! Why not ? and further: Who cares ? One recalls the happy days under Michael Boyd when on more than one occasion they announced a production for the next season and that was the last we ever heard of it, no explanation when it didn't appear. To be fair it has in the past been around this date the announcement has been made. Also curious to know what shows were never produced? Thought I knew a lot about the last few years but missed these

The booklet for next year must be going to the printers soon with the announcement at the start of September. Anyone know anything? Im hoping for a long overdue jacobethan discoveries season in the Swan. The Doran Henry VI plays lying like an inert indigestible lump at the heart of the season ? Or for others lying as the exciting prospect at the heart of the season (like me). We could finally get the long mooted Romeo and Juliet/Troilus and Cressida combination. Would love a good Jacobeathean season too. Should know earlyish september

I wonder if a 7-and-over family audience in Stratford-on-Avon will be quite so familiar with Uber as a 69-year-old left-wing playwright ? I hope he's at least put a rap in it. Er, come on Jan, Warwickshire isn't that far behind the metrop! A Brummie kid probably knows enough. 😉 Well said Lynette. I'm from the area and kids around here have a fair amount of nonce. Plus I'm pretty certain teachers (especially if they teach drama) will introduce the playwright as well as the play. Not sure about the modern elements, and not sure we'll get another Nick Nich but I'm quite excited about this and Twelfth Night. On a slightly off topic but on topic moan: why do the RSC announce RST show casting and leave the San casting till fairly last minute. Surely they've cast Imperium by now at least in part.

Saw this way back in the Complete Works Festival in 2006/7 and again this morning.
Utterly enchanting and captivating, and has lost of it's magic from its first outing. Suzanne Burden is a fine narrator and the guitarist (Nick Lee) was on top form as were the pupeteers.
Loved it

Went to this last night, sparse audience, and not at all surprised. Afraid this was an interval walker for me, slow boring and utterly devoid of tension.
The script is painful and makes no sense, and far too many F words. Usually I'd be interested but even the visible audience idea left me stone cold.

I will take umbrage at the above poster's comments about the RSC producing nothing worthwhile, though the Main House offerings have been patchy, the Swan has produced some excellent productions over the last few years (and a string of great shows starting with Seven Acts this year). The Main House has produced a couple of gems but not nearly as many. I enjoyed this, my personal best is between the Ninganawa and the Bill Alexander 14 years ago. To be honest I liked the 'dress down' look, I'm tired of Tamora looking like something out of a space opera. My three issues were: - The awful running around at the start - Discovery of Lavinia by Marcus Andronicus: lacked the gut punch it normally has - Same with Lavinia's death, seemed awfully unemotional to me As far as the shared space is concerned, I really struggled with it with JC/AAC but enjoyed it in this one and felt it actually worked. The same Seven Acts They were giving tickets away for? They may well have been giving tickets away for it, but I was classing it as an excellent production not a sold out one like so many Swan shows. The two do not equate in my eyes. Les Miserables may be sold out but I would never class it in the great productions categorically.
