I don't know if anyone else had this, but watching Sheridan enjoy a glass of wine in the first half made me want one myself, which I bought at the interval (despite not being bothered about getting one before). So nice bit of unintentional subliminal messaging there haha, or maybe I'm just easily influenced! Didn't want a glass of wine but I was gagging for chips and egg at the interval. The aroma coming from the stage was so tempting. Oh and a slice of good old white bread and butter.

I was listening to he cast recording yesterday and I think Celinde is going to nail Christine but I'm not so sure about Norm. Ramin is just wonderful in it but does Norm have the vocal capacity? Mind you I've only seen him in the Dr Zhivago concert where he had a minor role and 25th Anniversary concert of Les Mis so don't have much to compare.

Can you see faces clearly from Row B of the Royal Circle? Trying to decide between that and the Stalls? As its a concert personally I'd go for stalls as there isn't really anything to see set wise.

Very late to the party for me but the day finally came and its a solid 5 stars from me. I thought it was an acting masterclass from Sheridan and the best version of Shirley Valentine I have seen. I loved the way to played to the entire audience and you felt she was talking directly to you. She knew there were 3 levels in the theatre and boxes at the sides and everyone got her attention. When the audience laughed she laughed along as well which was so lovely. Slight mishap when one of the eggs broke getting onto the plate and she ad-libed brilliantly. Full standing ovation at the end and I heard several people on the way out saying that they wished it was longer as they enjoyed it so much. I was so impressed how she peeled, cooked and served whilst talking and turning to the audience and each element timed to perfection. Id have made a right pigs ear of it and probably cut my fingers or burnt them. My friend did comment that the potato peeler was not of the period and also that we didnt use spray surface cleaners in those days, to be honest I cant remember that far back. Also hard to believe that the play was written by a man which just shows the skill of Willie Russell. Fairly well behaved audience apart from a woman sitting next to us who had a very loud and very annoying laugh. Started 20 minutes late and looked as if lots of people sitting in wrong seats, wrong levels, and as it was full the FOH staff had a bit of a job sorting out the mess. The audience was predominantly female in their 40s and 50s and a few husbands who had clearly been dragged along to see it and would rather not be there. The theatre must be rubbing their hands from bar sales. I have never seen so much alcohol consumed during 2 hours. Luckily play not long enough for people to get drunk.

And then you have A Strange Loop and A Little Life which sound to me way beyond icky and into the realm of God only knows what being lauded. Double standards. And let's not mention Sweeney Todd that deals with mass murderers and cannabilism.

Couldn't get the seats I wanted in the stalls for the Monday but managed to get them for Tuesday. I rather like these concerts so looking forward to this especially the orchestra.

I saw this on Tuesday and left at the interval for the first time. Not for me at all. I can usually get over a ridiculous musical storyline but this one seemed particularly unlikely, the music didn't move me and the acting felt wooden. When people say, indiscriminately, "I hate musicals!", I felt that this was the sort of thing they would be imagining. Even Laura Pitt-Pulford couldn't save it. The style of music felt very 'Woman in White' to me and I love that show, but this one just rubbed me up completely the wrong way from the beginning. Very interesting that almost everyone here has enjoyed it so much. I'd be interested to know if the people who particularly loved it have a history of loving the show or went in completely cold as I did. Definitely a case of 'different strokes for different folks'! In answer to your question I knew the music and story very well. I did not see the original production but have seen it at the Menier and Southwark Playhouse. Loved the Menier but didn't like Southwark.

I don't know... it feels strange in this day and age to do anything that actively excludes another group of people. I'm an LGBT person, but if I were to find out that a performance I was attending was just for LGBT people I'd feel quite uncomfortable. People may frame it as positive discrimination or "creating opportunities" for those who may not normally attend a certain event, but if in doing so you create division between groups of people will you really succeed? God that would be a nightmare. An audience full of people judging each other 😀

I saw the show at The Adelphi, it was the same day as one of the Queens Jubilees. I do remember enjoying it but don't remember too much apart from it being set on Coney Island. I do quite enjoy these concerts as you don't have to listen to all the dialogue and just the music either a bit of narration. And cuts about 30 mins off the actual show.

I think if I'd never seen a production of 42nd Street then I would go and see this but I know I would be disappointed as I saw the Drury Lane production 11 times and nothing can ever compare with it. Everything about that production was huge, massive cast, massive orchestra, massive staircase and I have so many wonderful memories of it. I'm sure this will be lovely but just not for me.

A prop fell on the revolve and Jamie put his shirt on inside out once which was no bad thing as it meant he couldnt button it up and so we got an extended view of his chest. Producers might want to consider keeping this in. I wonder what the reaction would be if I made this comment about a woman. Happy to delete if others are offended by the comment.

Thought the show was glorious last night and very much enjoyed it. I have never seen the original production but have seen it at The Menier and Southwark Playhouse (the latter I did not like). The staging was so nice, and I especially liked the screens with projections that came across the stage to change each scene. Good use of revolve as well. The whole thing looked beautiful. The cast were excellent. Michael Ball was perfect at George (he really does have a great voice), Laura Pitt-Pulford was superb and also Anna Unwin who plays Jenny. I have not seen Moulin Rouge but heard all the negative comments about Jamie Bogyo, all I can say is that this musical is perfect for him and he really does have a beautiful voice. So nice to hear the music played by a pretty big orchestra who you get to see a couple of times during the show. In pretty good shape for a preview and I only noticed a couple of mistakes. A prop fell on the revolve and Jamie put his shirt on inside out once which was no bad thing as it meant he couldnt button it up and so we got an extended view of his chest. Producers might want to consider keeping this in. Ive given it 5 stars but if there was a 4.5 I would have gone for that as the seats were really uncomfortable so I wasnt completely relaxed towards the end. Seating wise I was sat at the end of Row F in the stalls, great view but I noticed that the rows in front did not have much of a rake, if at all, so worth thinking about if booking for the stalls. The stage looked very high and most peoples heads seemed to be at eye level or below to the stage.

I just don't see how you do this without Joe being like...19 if you've got Nicole as Norma. I don't want it but I can see them casting someone like Jordan Luke Gage I've heard they have even scouting at Italia Conti.

Nice Australian comedy series on I Player. Great script, very funny and added bonus on a cute little doggie who has wheels.

They used to do quite good food at the Bridge, but on the website it looks like they are only serving drinks now - is that right? And if so, can anyone please recommend someplace good but casual for a pre-matinee bite? There is an Ivy next door.

Well done to the board members guessing both the star and director. I'm on the fence here as I would have preferred someone else as Norma and I'm a great fan of Jamie Lloyd. Also, as others have already mentioned, yet another "reimagining". Is this going to happen at every revival from now on? Hope not but so far since theatres have reopened it's happening all the time. Saying that I am pretty sure I will go as I love the musical but I won't be queueing up on presale day to book.

I have never heard of NS. For me a star is someone who most people can recognise, specially regular theatre goers. Jamie Lloyd I know, and like sometimes. Enjoy! I was in the audience for that performance. It was at The Fountain Studios what is now the Troubadour Theatre, home of Newsies. A miserable cold and wet winter night and they had us queueing outside in the rain for over 2 hours. When we got inside the venue was freezing so I don't have fond memories of the evening but Nicole was rather good I have to say.

It’s all about Classic Corrie on ITV3 right now. I forgot how brilliantly written (also at times hilarious) the Richard Hillman episodes were. Thanks for that I didn't know about it. Right up my street.

Really like it; quite a unique quality to her voice. (I don't think she was really known for being a singer was she?!) She did singing impersonations- Barbra Streisand was a popular one. I think she sounds a bit like like Ria Jones in the Salome clip. She was big back in tbe 70s. Became famous off the back of one of the TV talent shows of the time.

Not do much a membership but Southwark Playhouse do a PAYG scheme which is now £75 for 5 tickets and you can use when you want. It's a massive saving.

Not heard of west end leading man Matt Rawle? 😲 I know, I’m sorry! I thought someone would say that. I see he has quite a CV so must just be someone I’ve missed. I've seen him in Pippin and Zorro and he is rather good.

But the 4th Wall ones are usually very good and it's a big orchestra so should sound wonderful.

This just came through to my inbox.
Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning Evita returns to the West End this summer!
The all-star concert will take place at the iconic Theatre Royal Drury Lane, accompanied by the 30-piece London Musical Theatre Orchestra.
Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Disney’s Moana and star of The Little Mermaid Live, makes her West End debut in the title role of Evita, alongside West End leading man Matt Rawle (Martin Guerre, Miss Saigon, Zorro) who returns to the role of Che.
