Just scored P1&2 in the circle for later this week, which must have been returns… Can anyone comment on the view from the extreme corners / second row? The show is in the round so the view will be fine, you may need to lean forward once or twice.

Given the good reviews, I'm tempted to book this, but I saw The House of Shades at the Almeida and thought it was rubbish--so melodramatic that many scenes played as unintentional comedy and with such hamfisted politics that I often found myself rooting for the Tory characters. Even when reading Arifa's 5-star rave, I get the sense that I'd have the same problems with Till the Stars Come Down. Is there anyone who's seen both and can compare the two plays? Now seen both and can confirm this is far superior, so fear not. I enjoyed this a lot, give or take a couple of elements (I thought the portrayal of the Polish groom was quite ropey and the accent, eeek) and as mentioned before, some strands aren't dealt with properly (the end of act 1 leads us to a more sci-fi element that never returns again). But the performances are really strong, especially Sinéad Matthews who is tremendous.

Can't believe the YV Strong one was 10 years ago. Time is ravaging.

I think Bob was in tonight He was, as was Roger Taylor. I didn't even last till the interval with this I'm afraid (we were sat right next to the circle exit on the aisle so were able to make a quick exit without disturbing anyone). The book is absolutely dire and I couldn't handle the cringe. Maybe it improved but I didn't have the patience for it last night.

I'm surprised this has a life planned after the old vic run, it doesn't seem an obvious show to have wider long life appeal (unless it gets 5 star rave reviews of course) The 40th anniversary is next year, so could tie in nicely (assuming it's a hit).

The Porter scene in this made me the most angry at a show I've been for years - I couldn't believe what the director had instructed him to do (to the point I was going to pick up my bags and leave) It's so frustrating because I was actually quite in until that moment. The sound and headphones thing worked for (despite the budget airline 00s headphones)- atmospheric, with the Witches being voices adding to things for me. Tennant I thought was terrific - really knew what he was going for and was the driving force which I haven't often seen in production. Jumbo less successful - I think the idea works, but the execution was poor (and her choice of accent just didn't make any sense) It was a comfortable 4 stars for me til the Porter scene, but that made me so angry that I have to settle on a 3 as I couldn't get back into the show properly after that. I am surprised that there hasn't been more criticism of this, to the point that as no reviews seemed to mention it, I thought it might have been taken out (I saw it in previews). It took me out of it completely.

Any idea on running time for this? It’s pretty much bang on 1 hour per act with a 15 minute interval. So you’re out at 9:45 / 4:45 for a matinee.

From the outside, Helen Jones and her husband had a ‘happy marriage’. Until she murdered him.
Based on the true crime story of Ruth Snyder in 1928 that shook a nation, Sophie Treadwell’s seminal Machinal is a pulse-pounding journey of someone pushed to breaking point by the relentless machinery of life, expectation and convention.
Experience the London premiere of Olivier Award winner Richard Jones’ ‘outstanding production’ (Daily Mail), starring The Stage 100 2024 Rising Star Rosie Sheehy's 'astounding stage talent' (The Guardian).
Tickets are on sale now from £13 for performances from 11 Apr–01 Jun 2024.

What do you think of chances of this being in any sort of post-Christmas sale? I want to take elderly relatives but the cheap standing tickets are a no-no (I stood earlier this year and loved it).

Clarke Peters as the Fool is almost enough to make me book, but King Lear + Yael Farber is just a recipe for misery so I can't bring myself to... Precisely my thinking. I wish it was in a different play.

I thought Tennant was great and worth the ticket but was left a bit cold / baffled with some of the production choices. The breaking of the 4th wall mentioned in posts above is dreadful and should be completely cut, IMO. It took me out of the action and for what did it actually add?
Unfortunately I was sat in C45 of the circle and my view of the glass box was heavily obscured by a speaker that was placed on front of it. It wasn't sold as restricted view so was a bit frustrating. Counted 8 empty seats too which surprised me.
3/5 for me, maybe I'll get more out the Fiennes one.

Could anyone else please confirm the ending time for this? Is it actually 1hr55? I see they've now taken that off the website and put "to be confirmed" back. It was exactly 1hr 55 last night (started at 19:33, ended 21:28)

I went last night and given how fond I am of the film (which is only 89 mins long!) this was disappointing. The ensemble do well and there's some good singing but a lot of it drained the life out of it for me and it's far too long.
Anya Chalotra, though a great voice, was unfortunately quite wooden too to the point where a fair few people laughed at the delivery of one of her lines.

I was there last night - no technical issues so there's that but agree the second half is a real slog and needs to be trimmed down. I am struggling to remember any of the songs today which isn't a great sign.

Time Out is a bit kinder, though does say its probably the wrong place for it. www.timeout.com/london/theatre/lyonesse-review"Really ‘Lyonesse’ feels like an imperfect but worthwhile play that would have fit in well at the Royal Court 15 or so years ago, where it might have run for a couple of months without too much pressure. Dumped straight on the West End stage, with a starry cast, its flaws feel magnified."

I was really into this at the interval, but didn't think the plot device of the second half worked as well. 3.5 stars from me.
But the cast are great and I really wish I had seen the Denise Gough one.
