I met the writer a few months ago and he said it’s on a short tour with the hope of a west end run 🤞 Yes that point is made in the review in today's Times that with some tweaking a West End transfer should be forthcoming....

This show must be coming to London. They wouldn’t make a brand new musical for 3 tour dates surely? I can see it being in a playhouse rather than a musical house. What ones could be free? Theatre Royal Haymarket after Xmas? I guess they're wishin' and hoping' so. Well I guess when it does come to London they'll be no Going Back !
It's alright I've already got my coat !

Well I have to say that I thought this was outstanding- things didn’t start off well (I had a £10 seat on the side of the grand circle and the view was pretty terrible but thankfully about 4 or 5 seats were left unsold and I could move to the one nearest the stage, which while not perfect was an infinite improvement) - I would still say I preferred The Beauty Queen Of Leenane but I would definitely rank this second in the McDonagh plays I’ve seen in the West End. Incredibly violent and not one to see if you get remotely upset about the thought of bad things happening to cats, but I loved it : I found it both funny and moving (and for those concerned about such things, you get to see Aidan Turner wearing a vest) Yep this and Beauty Queen are my two favourite McDonagh plays too !

There was also a very interesting Arena programme a few weeks ago with Rupert that was all about the history of this film coming to the big screen. It was very interesting. Should still be on iplayer. Top tip thank you !

Went to see the Rupert Everett written, directed and starring film about the final days of Oscar Wilde, believe the hype is justified
Funny and moving in equal measure and Mr E is as good as OW as he was in The Judas Kiss.
Fabulous film !

When I walked into the matinee yesterday, I was dreading the behaviour of the rowdy school parties, but to their credit, they were transfixed in silence, only laughing nervously at the sudden gunshots. And kudos to the teenage lad near me who was in floods of unashamed tears in front of his mates. That would have been me several decades ago. ...and me now ( well except I'm not a lad but you know what I mean ! )

Finally got around to watching this last night and I'm so happy I saw it before it closed. I absolutely loved it. This show had everything- it managed to hold me the entire 3+ hours. Even in the first act where there isn't a great deal of drama- just getting to know the family- managed to keep me enthralled and awaiting what was to come. Them mellow moments toward before the big ending of the final act were so calm yet I was so tense, my heart was pounding in fear of what may be about to unfold. I think that's the biggest testament to the actors of this piece and of course this amazing play Jez Butterworth has created. Rosalie Craig really was a marvel in this, I did not expect her to be as good as she was. Owen McDonnell was superb as Quinn. Sian Thomas as Aunt Pat really was something, her character was so interesting and angry, and I loved eventually finding out why she had all this anger bottled up inside of her. It wasn't until the end I realised why Quinn doesn't want to hear about the IRA/Thatcher in the house. Overall I bloody loved this play- I think it may be the best show I've seen this year. I just wished I had seen it earlier so I could've returned. It was a marvel in drama and storytelling. I do hope it manages to gain some momentum across the pond. In the foyer leaving last night, there was a big trip of New Yorkers aged around 18-25 I would say, one was crying another was in shock at what she just saw, I quote; "that's the best play I've ever seen, I cannot deal. I cannot wait to see it again in October." Another lad had just found out that the original west end cast was taking it over there and was equally as excited. So it does look like it has some fans. Couldn't agree more.
Finally got round to seeing this and was totally hooked for 3 plus hours which just flew by, as you say Owen McDonnell superb and I would also mention the actress who played Aunt Maggie Far Away ( don't have my programme to hand ), the set was outstanding.
In my eyes certainly a 5 star play and well worthy of all the praise heaped upon it.

Didn’t think this would have closed so soon, thought it would’ve had another year. The Garrick proves once again to be a graveyard for musicals despite being one of the best positioned theatre in the West End. The Garrick isn't really suited for musicals, it's a playhouse and plays tend to work better there. Agree 100% Jon, I know it has it's critics but I love the Garrick as a playhouse

Jeremy Thorpe always made me think he was a man out of his time he came over as more Edwardian than late 20th century- no bad thing I might add !

I don't wish to cast aspersions on the wisdom handed out by the theatremonkey but I doubt that many, indeed any, of the older London theatres originally has boxes all the way around the dress circle. Is there any evidence of this? Going back to my seating plans archive from 1888, The Alhambra Leicester Square and Empire did, with Drury Lane partially splitting with three rows of seats with the boxes behind. By the 1910s, the Adelphi, Covent Garden, Hippodrome, Little and (out of town) Cardiff Empire still had the same configuration. Pre-cantilever, it rather suited venues anyway, as the pillars caused sightline issues in what should have been the best seats, so far better to make a virtue of a necessity, I'd guess. So do you still have your seating opinions from 1888 monkey ? * I'll get my coat *

I watched the one about the Blitz, how wonderful to see 90-something former company principals so lucid and positive about what must have been trying experiences. I'll catch up with the MacMillan one this week, and look forward to revisiting the Michael Clark show again having seen it twice at the Barbican. Agree about the Blitz one fascinating and TV at its best

No air date yet, beyond “later in May”. But yes, I’m very excited about it. I read a biography of Thorpe and he was a fascinating character, astonishing how he reacted to Scott and brought about his own downfall. The case always reminds me of a modern Greek tragedy.
There was an interview with Norman Scott in one of the Sunday papers.

Was it really playing to empty houses, or papering though? I wasn’t that excited about seeing it, but every time I looked on Today Tix (not recently, to be honest) - the only ‘cheap’ seats were up in the Gods, so (Heaven forbid) maybe she was actually Ill rather than worrying about Parsley’s worthless opinions? When I saw it about three weeks ago the house was very nearly full only a few odd seats empty as far as I could see.

Well I liked this despite the unsavoury subject matter and Jason Watkins was a knock out Did you hear the phone going off during the Nancy/Ralph meeting? I liked the play for it's interesting (although quite shallow) examination of psychopathy and for pulling no punches but the audience was abysmal. Didn't hear the phone but during the first act there was lady with a coughing fit on the end of a row who really should have left the auditorium !
