I don't really have any of my own (except my tickets) but when my grandparents died I inherited their memorabilia, including a programme signed by Tommy Steele (!), leaflets from the RSC's seasons at Newcastle covering almost every year from the 1980s and 1990s, and random programmes from some of the earliest theatre productions I saw with them including a tour of To Kill a Mockingbird.

Like adrianics, I don't tend to see a show more than once so can't really compare understudies vs. principals, but I remember being incredibly impressed with Ashley Day at the Book of Mormon, as well as Richard Carson in Miss Saigon more recently.

Enjoyed the live stream last night. Wore headphones as suggested. Made less of an impact than I think it would have done in the theatre but still enjoyable.

As You Like It at the National tonight, and possibly Ma Rainey's Black Bottom at some point this week.

When I went on a backstage tour of the Almeida Theatre, it was explained that architects like symmetry, so they always design male and female toilet spaces to be the same size. Of course, we all know ladies take longer in the loo, hence the massive queues. At the Almeida they purposely designed the toilets so that there was more space for the ladies, and I have to say I rarely have issues queueing up for their loos...

It looks fantastic! Got the cast recording last week and can't stop listening to it. I've watched this clip several times already - can't wait for it to come to London!

Wondering if I should go and see this again... I wasn't particularly enamoured with it at the Savoy (except for Jamie Parker's performance) but the new cast sounds like it might actually be worth seeing!

Very little queue to speak of, only 3 people in front of me when I arrived just before 10. Thanks v much. Looks like a viable option for me then :-)

Enjoyed this, though Jemima Rooper playing a teenager when she’s in her mid-30s did prove vexing. Got a day seat, £15 front row. Its good to be up close for this one so highly recommend it. What was the day seat queue like? (Sorry to be "that person"!)

Gutted - my friend is getting married on that date. And it's the day before my birthday so it would have been the perfect birthday treat :'-(

Well, National Theatre, all is forgiven after the less-than-exciting past few months. Twelfth Night, Young Chekhov, Angels in America, Peter Pan, Hedda Gabler... I know where my money will be going in the next year or so!

Joback, everyone - really?! I thought his voice was incredibly thin and reedy when I heard him sing! Oh I'm with you on this. Up against outstanding singers like Ramin, JOJ and Warlow he looks like an amateur. Thin and weak about sums up his performance as Phantom Based on the 25th anniversary performance, I totally agree. Maybe he has improved since then? Neither me nor my auntie were impressed with him.

Surprised and concerned about the negative responses to this - it was one of my top 5 plays of 2012 (and I saw 100 plays that year so I had a lot to choose from!) and I'm sorry it hasn't been better received on the forum. Of course, everyone's opinion is valid and differing opinions is what keeps this place interesting :-)

No news to report sadly, just wanted to make sure we had a Ramin thread :-)
I know he's currently in LA - does anyone know what his future plans are? Musicals, TV?

Quite tempted to see this. I last saw Joseph in Darlington when I was a child - might be nice to revisit.

Saw this last night, liked it but didn't love it. Jamie Parker was easily the best thing about it and the production was ten times more engaging whenever he was on stage. Fab actor and incredible voice. I didn't really take to Siobhan Harrison, there was something grating about her voice, and Sophie Thompson was just irritating. I liked David Haig though. I didn't love the score, except for a couple of songs: Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat was fab, but some of the other songs were forgettable. Sometimes the show did drag a bit.
I don't have any other productions of Guys and Dolls to compare this one to (except for a school production I saw about fifteen years ago and have almost completely forgotten) but based on this one, it isn't one of my favourite shows.

Saw this at the O2 last year - great fun. Overwhelmingly cheesy, paper-thin plot, variable acting and dubious singing - but I loved it!

I used to love the Arcola - to the extent that I got through three of their ticket passports (5 tickets for £50) within a space of a couple of years, but I haven't been back for about a year.

Lovely idea to dedicate this thread to Alan Rickman. I actually did sit next to him once, at the Park Theatre, during a performance of Thérèse Raquin. I didn't realise it was him until the interval when I overheard him talking in that distinctive voice of his.
I've also sat near Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington at the National Theatre, and stood in the queue behind Jude Law in the Old Vic foyer.
