The audience singing along will be annoying. You can say that again! I saw it last night in Boston. I know very little about Neil Diamond, only a few of his songs, and nothing about the man himself. As a musical it's pretty solid and Will Swenson in particular is great. I did really enjoy the performances and music overall. Act one moves swiftly, ending with Sweet Caroline which was brilliant. Second part of act two is definitely slower, and this is where the book needs the most work as it does start to drag a bit. Audience were pretty rowdy, lots of singing along which was fine but one group in particular did want to make out that they were having a great time and got to the point of being extremely annoying (and drunk). And talking/giggling during the more serious scenes, as well as whole numbers. Saw security talking with the group afterward. The thing about Neil Diamond though... aside from three marriages he's not really the most interesting person to make a musical about, as say Tina or Frankie Valli for example. Will try and see the show again. Circumstances had it that we were at the first Saturday evening performance and this will obviously have brought out the party crowd.

We are lucky that our entry level prices are a lot lower than in the USA. Whilst Broadway has some good ticketing options, I’ve just went and bought my ticket for A Beautiful Noise here in Boston and prices were $69-$199. That lower entry point of around £56 is way above what you’d be paying bottom price for any show in the West End.

There are loads of good deals about, it's all about finding them. £25 tickets for pretty much any of the "Big" shows on TodayTix. They also have new offers every day or two. £10 National Theatre Rush, £12 Royal Court Mondays, Old Vic PWC £10 previews

Glad to see so many forum members enjoying this one! The more I think about it the more I think how good it was.
I have a friend staying with me in August who is a huge Bill Pullman fab and I may be tempted to take her and see it again.

This is so sad to read. Not only is she an incredible Tina (like, wow), having met her recently she is also such a humble and lovely lady. I wish her all the best.

On BWW they are speculating it will take the Winter Garden after Music Man.

Was great in New York, and can see it doing very well here.
That does mean we will be getting another closing announcement before long then.

I'm intrigued by the new schedule too. No 7pm performances at weekends any more from 19th Nov, and in the spring Wednesday changes to a matinee so the only 7pms are Thursday and Friday! Where are you seeing the new schedule? Can currently only see dates to October.

Surprised to see it close this early, thought it would run at least through until September. Maybe they couldn't find a bankable replacement for Patti.

I am surprised they can’t find someone to replace TC. Sure, his casting was a huge deal- but with a set all built and Eileen Atkins in place- surely they could have got another well known actor for the role? Seems a huge shame. Especially since the OV is seemingly going dark in a few weeks time with nothing announced after Jitney!

Thought this was brilliant! Has been a long while since I laughed this much at the cinema, but it was also incredibly touching at times. Emma Thomson and Daryl McCormack both brilliant.
Five stars from me, top quality.

Hmm. Couldn’t or wouldn’t. I’m sure there are plenty of actors who’d be lining up to take that role. Sure they might not be as famous as Chalamet, but does that really matter?

I was so ready for the heat in London today. Shorts and t-shirt and cap. Cold and got soaked... oh well.

I’ve never seen “A Doll’s House” but read it last week in anticipation of seeing this tonight and I’m glad I did - definitely helps to know the characters and original story. As for the plot, yes it’s very simplistic but as is the original play. All about the subtleties and characters.
Had no such issues with pacing and it zipped along at a good pace. 1hr 35 tonight so they’ve lost 5 minutes somewhere.
I thought the cast were universally excellent, especially Noma and June Watson.
One last thing to mention. I was seated in the stalls on the right hand side (usually would be the “stage left” side) and there was a LOT of noise pollution coming from the building next door, loud thumping bass throughout. Particularly noticeable in such a quiet play.

First thoughts I guess! Saw the matinee today and really enjoyed it. The play is solid, similar premise to Fever Syndrome but much better executed here. It’s no spoiler to really say it’s about a dysfunctional family all after their dying fathers inheritance. Cast is great. David Harbour leads and I thought he was excellent throughout. Bill Pullman is clearly having a lot of fun playing the bugger of a father. Special mention to Akiya Henry who is incredibly touching and really holds the piece together. I certainly think they will be recognised come award season. Highly recommend. I was row D circle and had a great view. You should be fine anywhere in the stalls too as nothing takes place up a height. Thanks for the info about the seating Mark. I've booked to see the show next Thursday afternoon (if I am able to get down to London with the train strikes) and got one of the £35 row D centre circle seats for £35 myself. I was going to try and move to Stalls Row B which had the same price but based on your info, I'll stick with my original seat I think. Just brace yourself for the very limited legroom! Great view though for sure, look forward to your thoughts.

I saw Vanessas understudy in both Driving Miss Daisy and The Inheritance. If I’d have left it longer than the first week would have been the same case here. Yes she’s very old but has a terrible attendance record.

If it’s true it’s genius casting. About the only thing that could possibly get me back to see this production.

Wasn’t this tried before in Leon on Shaftesbury Ave about 5 years ago? Do they still do it? They don’t, and yes they did but it wasn’t a proper diner really. The singing was certainly infrequent.

I remember this getting raves on Broadway so disappointing to read this. Going Saturday, have only just read A Dolls House, never seen it, but I’m looking forward to seeing Noma atleast.

A rock opera? I’d not even say it was a pop opera. It’s a musical, and not a very good one at that. It did have some funny moments but overall it just didn’t work for me. It was a bit too much in a “look at how hilarious we are being” kind of way which I didn’t like. That said, I thought the closing number was the best part.

Rebooked for the new first preview on Weds 13th July. Amazingly the only date myself and the family could do together. Two long days after another, with Crazy for You in Chichester the day before. Hoping petrol doesn't double in price again, although atleast we are saving on a hotel in Leicester this time.
Very helpful on the phone line and got through in about 5 minutes.
