Hooray, you made it, Dawnstar! And I thought train travel was dicey when it came to having to arrive by a certain time. Have a good trip and let us know what you're up to. We got a coach from Victoria to Tilbury, not a train. There is a train station at Tilbury but it must be at least half a mile from the terminal so too far when you're all dragging large suitcases. We've just docked in Copenhagen - hence I have an internet connection! No internet at sea, unless you pay some ridiculous sum which I'm not prepared to do.

Just to say if anyone is interested in my Baltic sightseeing I've tweeted some Copenhagen photos & will try to do more from the other places (Rostock, Helsinki, Tallinn, St Petersburg & Stockholm) internet permitting. My Twitter account is AuroraEstella.

You've done MUCH better

Ooh excellent... I love a bit of virtual sightseeing. I've been to Copenhagen, but saw nothing but the airport, a nearby hotel and one of our factories. You've done MUCH better I guess work trips don't leave much time for sightseeing. We had a day in Copenhagen on a cruise 2 years ago so today was filling in some gaps from last time. Still lots of gaps though, not enough time to go to either of the main art galleries for instance. And yes, thereputic ticket buying is definitely a thing! We were supposed to leave 45 mins ago but delayed due to a medical emergency. We were leaning over the side to watch the departure & instead saw an amulance pull up & paramedics come onboard. After a while they came back to the ambulance with a man in a wheelchair with a bandaged arm. Hope it isn't too serious an injury but as a suitcase was carried out I guess that's his cruise over. We were looking down from the top deck so not sure if he was a passenger or crew member but either way it must be awful to be carted off to hospital in a foreign country.

The NMBS are being dickwads about my Eurostar bookings. I can't book for dates beyond 10 Dec online on their website. Eurostar.com is selling for these dates already, but they are more expensive and don't offer me the option to add the "from every Belgian station" supplement. Grilling the NMBS about this, they responded I could book for dates beyond 10 Dec by phone only. Which requires phoning an expensive ticket hotline. In Belgium. Where they also charge a fee for bookings over the phone.
GRRRRR. First the automatic passport gates at St. Pancras and Heathrow aren't letting me through, now I can't even book my Eurostar tickets. You really are doing your best to keep me away from your island, aren't you? But you shall fail. Not least because I have a Hamilton ticket for December. Ahem.

I'll have a beach towel ready on a park bench for you viserys. And as I'm so sure you'll manage it I won't crack any jokes about offering to offload your Hamilton ticket....

Update: The call center is just as useless. Non, les Eurostar tickets ne sont pas en vente en ligne!!! Grumble.
Edit: To top it off, the advertising banner here on the forum is now throwing Eurostar adverts at me. Go away.

I feel your pain, viserys. So frustrating when you can't book your tickets. I almost missed my Eurostar in Brussels two weeks ago, because of the long security queues I made it with just three minutes to spare. I don't understand the progress. First, they check your train ticket (you have to scan it), then you have to put your luggage on a luggage band and go through a scanner, afterwards they check your passport and finally they check your ticket and passport AGAIN. It took me 45 minutes to get through the whole thing. I mean, I understand why they are being so cautious, but why do they have to check your ticket and passport twice? I'm working at the moment, but it is so boring, and I am so distracted.

I I mean, I understand why they are being so cautious, but why do they have to check your ticket and passport twice? I think it's because you first leave Belgium/the Schengen-Zone (so the Belgian border police checks your stuff) then you enter the UK (so the UK border police checks your stuff again). It doesn't really matter for EU citizens I guess, but if you're travelling from elsewhere, say, the USA or Far East, you need to be stamped out of the Schengen Zone and then stamped into the UK. Normally this would only happen after arriving in the destination country (i.e. Heathrow Airport or in this case St. Pancras) but I prefer that they do both on the Belgian side, so you can just walk away after arriving in St. Pancras and don't have to queue up for border control there. However, since the revamped "Channel Terminal" in Brussels has opened, things seem to be going super slow there. I hoped they had ironed out the kinks by now, but looks like not.

"Emily have you seen Dirty Dancing the Musical?" "I'd rather scratch my own eyes out"
Any day where I can give that response is a good one.
For bonus content I added "But I hear it has a tree that looks like a penis"

Query, are we the first discussion board ever to have accidentally adopted an official cake? It's only official once every member has been given a package of cakes of their choice for free. (I may or may not totally go looking for these things next time in London)

Maybe they'll help me to wean me off my Chocolate Hobnobs addiction. Those do nothing for my waistline whatsoever.

Lemon puffs. Back in the dark ages they were lovely sticky lemony oblongs, sandwiched together with lemon sherbet creme. Mmmmmmmmmm. Now they are round and not so sticky or crumbly but the filling is still pretty good. Nommy nom.
