I spotted this job ad earlier... any ideas what it might be? [Production company] are seeking a marketing manager to work in-house on a brand new co-production currently in development. It will premiere initially in a regional theatre but already has a confirmed West End transfer in the autumn of 2023. The show – yet to be publicly announced – is the new offering from a Theatre & TV house-hold name and their long-standing creative collaborators. Sounds awfully a lot like the Derren Brown project, but that has been announced, although not fully on sale.

So, if The Crucible is going to the Gielgud and it's heavily speculated that A Strange Loop is going to the Apollo, where's The Piano Lesson going? Haymarket?
Or is TPL now not happening?

After last night's reception, Standing at the Sky's Edge will clearly be crossing the river and heading to the glittering West End. I'm being serious...for once. Interesting, I though it transferred very well from Sheffield to the National, but is this not too 'British' and gritty for the west end? I don't think tourists want to see musicals about british council estates.

It's premiering in Colchester in July / Aug before heading to the Criterion from September.

@sohoplace, Haymarket and Phoenix free from end of April Apollo, Gielgud and Garrick free from end of May Ambassadors free from end of June Gap at Criterion currently mid April to end of August if Unfriend does not extend. Obviously I’m sure most of these have shows pencilled in, and there’s plenty of rumours, but that’s 8 West End houses without shows currently on sale for the peak summer period. Since this post, Bleak Expectations has been announced for the Criterion, and The Crucible for the Gielgud. Still nothing for the rest as yet, including @sohoplace, the Haymarket and the Phoenix from May onwards. I wonder if Bill Kenwright will put something into the Haymarket, maybe The Shawshank Redemption?

Marigold Hotel is touring until mid-June, having been on tour since September and is already on it's second cast, would it be that much of a draw?
And didn't Shawshank do quite poorly last time it was in the WE?
Phoenix could also house that transfer of The Piano Lesson that we're not quite sure is still happening, pre-Stranger Things.
Does anybody know if Roman Holiday is already eyeing up a London theatre post-Bath?

Yes, Sonia could bring in The Piano Lesson to the Phoenix or maybe the Apollo now that we think A Strange Loop is not going there? Marigold is a very Haymarket type of show so that could be a good call!

If for some reason this isn't Derren Brown, then I would ask what have Sheffield or Birmingham Rep got coming up? Almost everything at Sheffield now has a 'secret' co-producer with the intention of a WE transfer if a show does well in Sheffield...

It could be Hamnet. Neil Street are co-producing that with the RSC and I would be gobsmacked if that didn't move to London.

Dont forget to find a place for the Crucible’s production of Miss Saigon after it finishes its run in Sheffield!

They should put it on at the Old Vic so it plays across the road from the F**k Miss Saigon play, as a f**k you to them. (And no, I’m not serious either.)

Okay, so as I like planning and I like spreadsheets...
This is an up-to-date listing of West End and Off West End* long run shows with confirmed opening dates as announced through March 2024. There are currently 45 on my list.
I say up to date but I'm sure I have missed something or mixed up a date somewhere along the way. The spreadsheet is open for comment (including anonymous) if anyone would like to suggest a correction or addition, or you are welcome to do so here.
It might be of help to someone, it might not - but I had done up as part of our planning so no harm in sharing and it seems to fit the thread
And yes, I do intend to keep it updated.
*as from the SOLT members list. I think The Bridge is the only large venue with long running shows not to be included...

Handy list, Dave. Thanks for sharing. You could add The Crucible at the Gielgud, and Bleak Expectations and Unbelievable at the Criterion.

Bleak Expectations and Unbelievable at the Criterion Done thank you! I was sure I'd missed a transfer, it's been nagging me all morning. The Crucible - of course.

Anybody know if there are shows booked into the...
Haymarket, Apollo or Garrick from May/late May/June respectively?
Even if they can't reveal what those shows might be?

With only a short run for A Little Life at the Savoy, I’m curious what will be at the Savoy (arguably one of the most desirable West End houses) from the autumn. Would be a great venue for Whats New Pussycat if it were going to transfer, or maybe Sound of Music from Chichester?
Must be something else booked for Pinter with ALL moving.

Maybe Hadestown for the Savoy? The Pinter must be a play that was booked in ages ago. Maybe Long Day's Journey into Night.

Yes, does anyone know what has booked the Pinter which has prevented the extension of A Little Life there?

Cher Show coming to town Fishermans friends later in the year Nice one, thanks for the heads up! Curious about which venue this will be held at. Not particularly interested in either of them but good to see more shows in the pipeline.
