I agree. WOS awards are a travesty. David Tennant for "Don Juan in Soho"? Really?...

Got my ticket. Lost 2,5 hrs of my life to get a ticket to a play I don't even like that much. I gave up on queueing in the browsers on my laptop and used my smartphone instead - no queues, it took me 1 minute to book. Technology, eh.

Mary Poppins! I still love these books. My father gave me a wonderful, beautiful, shiny new edition of all stories in one volume a few years ago - it was my 34th birthday... One of the best gifts ever, if not the best.

I read that post on the opera thread. It put me in mind of Wimbledon's panto this year, where a low moaning could sometimes be heard from a corner of the stalls during act 1. At the interval, I looked around, and it turned out to be someone in a wheelchair. No idea of the condition he had, but it was one of those which clearly involved involuntary action. The noises were his way of communicating just how much pleasure he was getting from the entire show, and once I realised all that, I couldn't have been happier. I witnessed something very similar last night. There was a group of disabled young people in the auditorium - there is no such thing like a relaxed performance in my beautiful Central European country (which is a shame I think) but then of course, lack of relaxed performances should not mean that some of us are not allowed into theatre... Anyway, it was a joy to watch them - yes, they were a little bit louder, yes, they were getting very emotional but they truly enjoyed the show and were completely transfixed at times. And the actors clearly enjoyed their engagement too. Whilst I dislike compulsive WhatsApp/Instagram/Tinder users, drunkards, munchers, very chatty people and passionate lovers in the audience - I really don't mind this kind of "bad" behaviour.

I saw this tonight and... well, I couldn't have imagined a better way to kiss 2017 goodbye. Enjoyed it greatly. A delightful, camp, bittersweet show. My feet loved the music and my eyes got a little bit wet a few times... Will gladly see it again (and I don't even like musicals!)

I was seated between two middle-aged men yesterday and they must have suffered from severe conjunctivitis - both of them were sobbing in the 2nd act. And so was I, actually. A virus, I'm sure...
Seriously though, I loved it. It's Christmassy, it's heartwarming, there are lanterns, there are bells, there are sprouts, there's snow, there's a lovely child, what else could you need? And then there's Rhys Ifans. It was the first time I've ever seen him on stage and I was impressed with his charisma. I even went to the stage door (which I do very rarely because I never know what to say and eventually I just stare with a silly/disturbing grin) - what a charming man he is. And how tall. And he wished me a happy new year. Oh. I'll stop now. Off to watch "The Boat That Rocked".

I must confess - musicals are not exactly my cup of tea. And yet, words cannot describe how much I enjoyed this delightful, intimate show yesterday. I cried a little bit but I left the auditorium with a huge smile of joy on my face. This little gem is in fact a powerful antidepressant. Having suffered from extreme shyness and anxiety, I know very well how difficult it can sometimes be to have a conversation with someone, not to mention the horror of looking them in the eye. And flirting - ohh! A nightmare. So perhaps I found this show so touching and charming, and incredibly uplifting because of my own experiences. Or perhaps it's because of the chocolate? Or French accents? Or all these lovely tiny surprises for the audience? Or because it's superbly played?... I don't know. What I know is that I would gladly see it again.
And oh. Dear Gareth Snook, if you read this - I made a promise to myself not to miss any future show you're in. Yours truly - anonymous massive fan since yesterday.

Box office collection or e-ticket. I live on the Continent and I travel a lot so these options are much safer for me (also, as a no-life, I hardly ever receive any post other than letters from my bank or my insurance company so I peek into my mailbox extremely rarely). I received my CumberHamlet tickets by post, surprisingly.

Friday - Romantics Anonymous and Belleville. Saturday - A Christmas Carol and Follies. New Year's Eve - Young Marx and Everybody's Talking About Jamie (normal people go to parties, I go to theatre... my parents probably ask themselves what went wrong...)

I usually don't ask people to stop doing something they should not be doing - I'm too shy so I only stare at them or sigh (and of course, they don't care). However, a few days ago I got really annoyed with an audience member taking photos during a show and asked her to stop it. The response I received was basically an angry tirade consisting of "I will do whatever I want", "get a life", "who do you think you are" and so on and so forth. In result, I ended up being even more annoyed while the lady was very proud of her collection of very blurry photos (really, given the distance between her and the stage, there was no point in taking them.)

Plays. That said, I fell in love with theatre when I first saw a musical, aged 13.

Excel spreadsheet. I only started it this spring, after I missed one of my theatre trips because I simply forgot about it. And that was "Harry Potter" by the way, booked maaaany months in advance.

Shucks. I really wanted to see it (but I also really wanted to see "Against" - I'm not lucky this year!) and booked my flights and all... Oh well. Maybe I'll go and see the "clothing optional" Hair performance instead.

Maybe... Perhaps they thought again and eventually came to a conclusion that people wouldn't be so interested in listening to a monologue about caning on a Thursday afternoon (isn't this what you usually do?). And it doesn't seem to be selling well, which is a shame because it's definitely not as bad as the review in The Guardian might suggest. I think it's a shame but on the other hand I'm quite happy because this means I'll get a nicely priced ticket later in the run.

As much as i hate to ask, has anyone been to the stage door? wouldnt usually bit tempted with this cast I have. I usually avoid this kind of entertainment because I'm horribly shy but I went to say hello to David on Saturday (to be honest, I didn't care much about Natalie Dormer - sorry - but she seemed lovely and kind to everyone who wanted to take a selfie or tell her they love her or whatever). The queue was MASSIVE - I remember the good old days of "Shakespeare in Love" when I was the only person waiting after the show... - but still, it was nice.

It's brilliant. Wonderfully acted, sexy, fast-paced, very funny and bitter at times (in light of recent Weinstein news...). Natalie Dormer is absolutely delightful and charismatic - I must confess I didn't expect such a powerful performance. Oakes is also great - television's favourite villain/nasty brother he may be, but he's a fab comedy actor (and a strikingly beautiful creature, obviously). That said, some people in the audience giggled when he (well, his character) said "I am Borgia".
In short - I loved it.

Ohh. I'm seeing this on Saturday and am getting overly excited, having read your thoughts, guys. But, referring to the "Victoria (and Abdul)" thread - have you spoken German to Mr O, Viserys?

I think I met Satan tonight. A lovely (so I thought...) old lady seated next to me opened her bag literally seconds after the performance started and began to nervously (and loudly) search for something. To my horror, she found what she was looking for - a pack of something very, VERY crispy! Then, she decided to send a few texts because this is exactly what you do when you go to see a show (very good one, by the way, and certainly not boring). She texted even during a very intimate, semi-improvised soliloquy and at some point I really hoped the actor would tell her off. Sadly, he did not. I can imagine it must have been quite distracting for him. For some reasons, I can stand bad behaviour at the show when it only affects me or other audience members but I get really angry and sad when someone shows disrespect to people on stage. And the show was just an hour long.

I find I'm actively looking for things that qualify as bad behaviour now, just to report back to this thread! Ha, I'm doing the same! I'm only afraid that the next step might be turning into some sort of a theatrical agent provocateur...

However, the most pressing question surely has to be:- was David Oakes wearing anything under that towel during his Sharon Stone moment? I am going to see "Venus In Fur" in two weeks. I may ask about the details (for a friend) but I really wouldn't want to return home with a restraining order... Anyway, it was a fascinating scene.

I'm loving this. That's exactly the kind of theatrical magic I like the most. I never thought I'd cry whilst listening to "Like A Rolling Stone" but perhaps I'm simply getting old...

The Ferryman this afternoon. Two people hunting for free seats in the stalls because, quote, "they couldn't f***ing see anything" from their dress circle seats just behind me (which weren't bad, if you ask me - and surely my hair wasn't restricting their view either...). Needless to say, all seats turned out to be taken so they were wandering around and complaining. Then they eventually returned to their dress circle row.
And then the eating began. They did not return after the second interval. Phew.

This weekend: The Ferryman and Girl from the North Country on Saturday, then on Sunday a staged reading at Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. And then, back to the airport only to return two weeks later! I'm getting too old for this.
