I remember this one guy... He was really lovely, a massive fan of theatre and we had a very nice chat in the interval - about the show, other shows we enjoyed, price of jynnan tonyx et cetera. Standard theatre chat. And then, all of a sudden, he says: "You know what, I was watching you a little bit during act 1 and noticed that you kept your eyes fixed on one actor. You fancy him, don't you?".

On coughing, there is definitely some mind over matter going on. The change in atmosphere in a theatre can trigger some coughing. I realised that if this happened to me, my worry about coughing only made it worse. So, if this happens I try to ignore it completely and this does help it go away. I was once at a spa with the other half and having a massage. The person doing the massage started coughing. After a short time she apologise profusely. I said to her that she was making it worse by worrying about it and told her to forget about it and it would be OK. She did and didn't cough again. Of course, this is no use for some coughing, but it can help sometimes. That is very true. That said, with my anxiety (wonderful condition, hugely recommended!) I always worry that I would be coughing - and of course, the more you think about it, the more likely it is to happen, and then you try not to cough, because you don't want to be this "bad behaviour at a show" person so eventually you almost choke yourself to death... And that's why I always have something to drink with me.

Off topic, but I love you, Ryan. I might be fangirling a bit when we finally meet one day.

There is just one actor I go to say hello to on a regular basis - but this "regular" means once every 6-12 months, not twice a week, so I very much hope his "good to see you again" is honest and he doesn't really think "oh God, not this creepy woman again". (On the other hand, he's an actor so you never know).
I would never chase people or block their way (oh,and sneaky photos are also a big NO-NO for me) - after all, they're tired, it's late, probably if I were them I'd also like to just go home and get sloshed on the sofa. But I see it quite often. Many fans perceive actors as their mascots who should always find time for them - and by "time" I mean 30 minutes rather than 3. I still remember David Tennant's superfan who didn't manage to talk to him at the stage door of Wyndham's (because the crowd was so big that he'd have to spend 3 hours there to please everyone); she burst into tears, wailed and almost collapsed. That was genuinely scary. But sometimes it's just nice and normal. When I was waiting for Jeremy Irons, there were just 3 of us at the stage door. It took him ages to leave because he had guests, but when he finally emerged and before I even managed to open my mouth, he said "Oh my God, I'm do sorry, you must be freezing!". That was kind of lovely.

After 15 years of coming to UK every couple of months today I "finally" had a chance to use NHS services! Yay.

I have to say I actually enjoyed it. Perhaps it's because my expectations were quite low after reading the reviews. I love Charles Edwards and Prasanna Puwanarajah (who doesn't love him?) so I had to see it anyway and I'm happy I did. While this isn't the best show I've seen this year, I liked the bitterness of this play, the decadence, as if everyone was just waiting for the world to end. By the way it's only 3 hours now. Still long but manageable.

Rory Kinnear was out this afternoon. However, with or without him, it was the most boring "Macbeth" I have ever seen. This play is full of murders, ghosts and there's a moving forest in it. And yet, I almost fell asleep.

Kinky Boots tonight. To the woman next to me was happily taking photos during the finale - I know ju jitsu. I didn't make use of it only because I don't want to fly back home handcuffed.

Oh God. I'm going to see it tomorrow... On one hand I feel like giving it a miss but on the other I'm weirdly excited to see if it's really that bad (that's called masochism, I believe).

I absolutely agree. That said, I believe the theatre critic should focus on a show itself.

No waving robots in the final. Gutted.
Happy for Sweden, though.
Sadly, I won't be able to watch the final on Saturday - going to see "Absolute Hell" at the NT. Although given the reviews, perhaps I should stay in and see absolute hell on TV...

Ah, isn't Alfred Enoch handsome... There was a short Q&A after tonight's performance and his smile was painfully charming. Anyway. I like art, I like two-handers and really enjoyed the show. It was nicely intense. It was also surprisingly funny - I didn't expect so many laughs. And of course, watching Alfred Molina on stage is pure pleasure - he is magnetic as pompous, grumpy, irritating Rothko. The "baby Alfred" (Enoch) seemed a bit upstaged by his charismatic co-star in the beginning (on the other hand, his character is also kind of starstruck in the first scenes) but I think this is a very strong performance too. And I will surely be dreaming about this smile tonight. Sorry.

Theatreboard is blocked in my workplace (as are other discussion boards and social media) but I can book tickets. At least until the IT dept finds out that I often spend 4 hours queueing for tickets on Almeida/Donmar websites... Ah well. Priorities.

Going to London again tomorrow for 2 happy weeks and hoping to see "Jamie" again. Possibly also "Kinky Boots" because I haven't seen it yet (I know, I know...). Then, next weekend, a wonderful two-show Saturday - "Macbeth" and "Absolute Hell" at the NT (God help me...), and Read Not Dead at the Globe on Sunday - to my surprise, it's sold out, so I only got a standing ticket and I very much hope it won't be 4 hours long. Also considering "Lessons in Love and Violence" at the ROH.

I saw it this afternoon and loved it. Cried a little, even though I read the book and know the story. What I love about this show is its intimacy and honesty. And whilst I love Declan Bennett, Samuel Barnett totally stole the show for me. What a stage animal this gentleman is.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would have. It's not a life-changing theatrical experience but a good show. A play about someone who many of us met - ruthless, sexist, narcisstic a***hole. Of course, since he is played by wonderfully charismatic Ben Chaplin, you kind of want to like him. He does steal the show a bit although Pip Carter as his therapist and Seana Kirslake as the singer who becomes a victim of his bullying are also very good. It's bitterly funny - actually I wish it would have been more bitter but overall I'm glad I saw this tonight.

Oh, and did anyone else in the end give in to baser instincts and try and collect the full set of pit stuff - flag, 2 leaflets and a death poster... er, just me then... I only got the "tyranny is dead" leaflet. I really wanted a death poster but unfortunately the lady in front of me was quicker. I use this leaflet as a bookmark - and I'm currently reading Machiavelli's biography...

Saw it this afternoon. The stalls were half empty, sadly (perhaps because of the weather). What a delightful show this is. Dark and grotesque, creepy at times, and yet surprisingly heartwarming - a sort of grim(m) fairytale for adults. Amazing puppetry and voices. And Julian Bleach. Julian Bleach. Julian Bleach.
Actually I enjoyed it more than "Hamilton". (Sorry, I'll get my coat.)

It's freezing cold in my hotel room in London so I'm currently sitting on the floor, hugging the heater. I'll need to leave soon though - "The Grinning Man" awaits... Don't care too much about snow - for us in Central Europe it's not a rare delight in March. I just hope I will be able to fly home on Saturday morning without any adventures.

Hamilton tomorrow (I have a horrible cold so I fear my sneezing will be reported in the "Bad Behaviour" thread). Thursday - The Grinning Man and Long Day's Journey. Friday - Julius Caesar.
