Playing in The Studio, which is a slightly smaller space that it's current home at The Arts.
Nightly for 2 months, with 3 shows on Saturdays and 2 on Sundays. The cast is certainly going to be working hard! But knowing Sydney theatre ,I'd expect discounts for this as it goes along.

Well this was a lot of fun. First night in Sydney and he was playing up on that home ground advantage. Essentially it's the same show he played here a few years ago, just now with added Greatest Showman bits (and Keala Settle). Some of it felt a bit rushed, and I think I'd have preferred something from Oklahoma and Sunset Boulevard over the extended tap sequence, but still all good. Even when he was laughing so much he accidentally spat on the stage, then laugh snorted then swore!

I haven't been for a few years, but have the over- zealous Globe volunteers improved their game?
I'll never forget being swooped upon and 'No photos!" yelled in my face, when I dared to change my camera battery in my lap during interval. Especially when another man was standing 2 feet in front of me brazenly weilding a handycam.

Finally seeing Huge this Friday. Feels like years since everyone here had their turn. Looking forward to the show. Not so much to the getting home afterwards. 😟

I'd like to reassure those people saying that trains don't stop due to the heat in other countries that yes, they do. Admittedly our tracks are set to withstand higher temperatures in general, but on days when it gets into the 40s trains are quite often slowed in case of warping rails.

Did a double show day today - it really is a fantastic adaptation and zips along at a great pace. It has all the humour, but also has the emotional heart with Rhonda and Muriel’s mother. The score is a highlight indeed - one of the strongest new scores of recent years, especially for an adaptation. The book could use just a little refinement but it’s as good as ready for a West End transfer. It wasn’t well sold tonight (matinee was busier) but I think this is more down to the Sydney theatre scene than anything else. I saw Natalie Abbott as Muriel for the matinee and Ashleigh Rubenack in the evening show. I have to think this maybe wasn’t planned, Abbott seemed to be holding back a bit vocally this afternoon so it’s understandable if this is why she went off tonight. Staging, set, costumes - all great. The production has been put together so well and is extremely high quality. Glad you enjoyed it Mark. It's been playing in Sydney for a few weeks now, plus it sold out for the first season last year so I think pretty much everyone who wanted to see it has now. Plus it's playing at the casino theatre which is a bit out of the way and doesn't get passing trade. Plenty of discount offers coming in for it - but at $55 it's still not cheap enough to tempt me to a repeat visit ( and I only work next door to the theatre!)

Isn't Cat on a hot tin roof really long when you see it live? I like the shortened film! I saw a production last month and it came in at 3h05, including interval. There were a few drawn out passages where I felt the time dragging.

Wensleydale with cranberries 😍. You can consign those plastic cheese slices to room 101. Any cheese with fruit I would consign it to Rm 101.soz! A mature cheddar is the best. Although I do love something blue and pongy and anyone who puts a really decent mozerrella on a cheeseboard gets my vote You've reminded me of something else I love but have very rarely - burrata. If you like creamy cheeses, this is the queen of cream cheeses. Basically because the centre is mostly cream.

I love cheese. Especially stinky cheese. Current favorite is Shropshire Blue. Alcohol infused cheese does nothing for me. I tried a very pretty purple mottled Port Derby and it tasted like antiseptic to me.

I haven't seen it, and I've only seen one of the other plays nominated ( Harp in the South), so I can't say.
Going by the winners so far, the smaller indy shows ( 'Counting & Cracking' and 'Barbra and the Camp Dogs' especially) seem to be the strongest contenders this year.

I had meant to give a review of this, but as it was originally sold out I didn't want to encourage people to want to see something they couldn't! But it has now extended for another week till 4th August, so if you happen to be in Sydney here's your chance. I was really impressed by this production.Despite being only a 2nd preview everyone was up to speed and it really wizzed along. (That is until one player hurt himself and we had to stop for 45 minutes, but that wasn't a usual preview issue) It's a small theatre, about 200 seats, and the staging though smaller than the usual still included the bar, the central double pub doors and Guy's room off in the corner. Instead of the players busking on stage pre-show, they roamed the aisles playing and chatting to the audience as they found their seats. Toby Francis gave us a sweet, sad and heartfelt Guy, probably ranking #2 in my list of Guys. Stefanie Caccamo's Girl was less assured, and her accent seemed to wander a bit, but musically excellent. The reduced stage did mean that movement was scaled down, but they made excellent use of the space available. Although the standing on things was curtailed in Act 2 after the injury. Chatting during the enforced interval, I found most of the audience hadn't seen Once before, and they thought this version was wonderful! Certainly the night I attended, riotous applause and standing ovations all round. I would see it again if I could. Do see it if you can.

Remember The Sun pays people to supply those showbiz stories as well, so there’s an incentive to polish them up a bit. A few years ago a member of another fan forum I used to frequent tested the tabloids by providing some completely made up story about an actor, to see if they'd do any fact checking at all. She didn't give her name, and made it vague & ridiculous enough not to be defamatory. Surprisingly one tabloid actually printed her story as being verified by 'friends of the actor' (she wasn't - and never said she was) without ever contacting her or the actor in any way. All from a few lines on a Tweet.

I'm amazed at how quickly people get ready. I get up at 6am, have a bath, make lunch, make & eat breakfast, clean teeth. do hair, pack handbag, get dressed & by that time it's 7.45am & time to leave to get the train at 8am. I think (probably) it's because if they are like me they have everything prepared the night before. Alarm 6.45 Bathroom while kettle is boiling - I even make sure the kettle is filled before I go to bed ( I shower the night before - mainly because my flat mate will have used all the hot water by the time I get up) Make tea and collect water & lunch from kitchen. Dress while drinking tea- clothes laid out the night before. I don't wear make up so there's a chunk of time saved. Pick up bag and go by 7.15 for 10 minute walk to train. Breakfast is eaten at work. We have a far nicer & bigger kitchen in the office than mine at home, plus we have breads, spreads, fresh fruit laid on for us.

I remember Lucy Briers taking a rather spectacular slide in Top Girls at Trafalgar Studios. It was after the food fight when they get up to leave, except Pope Joan's legs went skywards! She did land with a thud but I don't think any serious damage done.

Tonight's performance of Once was stopped when the actor playing Andrej landed badly and dislocated his knee. After a lengthy (45 minute) break waiting for an ambulance, the show continued with another member of the ensemble reading in Andrej's lines in Act2 script in hand. A few of the other players also had to multi-task extra instruments to fill in for the missing bass and mandolin. Which didn't seem to be a problem as they all seemed proficient at everything! Luckily there was no Ivanka in this production so no issue with children working past curfew. Where was that? Had no idea there’s a production of Once on somewhere? Sydney, Australia

The STC/Andrew Upton 2014 production was really, really funny and one of my favorite things on stage. Richard Roxburgh played it to the hilt ( pun intended!) and was a very physical Cyrano, the sword fight was worthy of an Errol Flynn movie!

There has been talk of a possible tour down under and no doubt there would be demand in Europe and possibly US. Acts reforming have often done stadiums and the girls did first time round too. Some will do arenas, some stadiums, some do a mixture etc. I could see the girls doing an O2 Dome residency in the next few years too. Seems Mel B has now back tracked on the Australian tour . On a local radio show this morning she admitted she made it up, and there's no concrete plans for a tour. She just wants it to happen so thought if she stirred things up it would get things moving.

When you say "holiday", do you mean "Christmas"? yes - for the festive season...I mean things change by the second but that is what i heard. Well, it will need to find a new Pharoah if it is. Jason Donovan's just been announced as Billy Flynn in Chicago over Christmas in Melbourne.

Olivia was almost certain to get something this year after her winning her Oscar. SRB's knighthood was always on the cards too in due course. There seems to be a slightly scattergun approach in which BAME actors or actresses get awards, often it seems to be people who are flavour of the month, taking nothing away from Cush or Sheila but names like Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Adjoa Andoh, Hugh Quarshie, Derek Griffiths who have had much longer careers are as deserving IMO. We don't know if these people haven't already declined nominations. Most royal honours are awarded only after a long nomination and selection process - it can take years and the nominee can decline the offer. There are a few that are awarded directly by the Palace , but most are through the nomination process.

I've never drunk anything alcoholic (unfortunately my uncle is keen on putting wine in tomato sauce, no idea why it's disgusting, so I have had to eat some). Never drunk coffee (if the smell makes you feel sick why would you drink it?) I've never sworn on my own acord I'm guessing you're *not* an Australian then...

Not so much a show (actually, yes, it was probably a helluva show!), but I wish I'd seen Queen with Freddie Mercury. I saw Queen in Sydney in 1985 - it was part of The Works tour. Freddy was absolutely captivating and it's a cherished memory of mine. I wish I'd seen the original production of The Pillowman with David Tennant at the NT. But I allowed myself to be co-erced by my travelling companion into see Me & My Girl. (We only had the one night free in London that trip.)

There was quite a bit of interest for the tour of Once in the Musicals thread, so for anyone in Sydney or who may be visiting, this will be playing at the Darlinghurst Theatre Co from 26th June to 21st July. This will be the Sydney premiere, as it previously only played a limited run in Melbourne in 2015. Having seen the show several times it will be interesting to see it in such a small ( approx 200 seat) venue. Oh, and also Cameron Daddo in the cast ( for any old Models Inc. fans!) www.darlinghursttheatre.com/whats-on/once

I'd plump for a play over a musical, and a comedy preferably.
Present Laughter would be a good pick if the dates fit your trip. Or something at the Globe - they are usually not too seriously and fun for newbies.
