I admired Nicholas Lyndhurst's ability to sleep standing up or that is what it looked like he was doing for the long periods he had nothing to do. Yes, I felt sorry for Nicholas Lyndhurst, as like the ensemble was on stage almost throughout the show with nothing to do but watch. But at least the ensemble were sat down watching. They must be nearly asleep at times - I know I was!!

Quite a muted response from a 3/4 full audience who were very Chichester (Pale, stale and failing) LOVED this remark - so accurate and I consider myself proud to be pale, stale and failing!!!

The Menier is a theatre I have vowed never to go back to - very uncomfortable and expensive for what it is!

But there was a loud breather sitting behind me again... I seem to attract those... 🙈 Now, I'm all for clamping down on mobile phones etc. but when breathing becomes bad behaviour it's going a bit far...….LOL

It’s a good production although I thought the play seemed a little dated now (I don’t mean the period setting). Not an obvious WE transfer I wouldn’t have thought. It didn’t seem to sell especially well at Stratford East.

The overture and dimming lights of the Coliseum was wonderful! A shame the curtain went up!!

Apparently this is closing almost 2 months early. It is sad for the cast and crew. I assume the troubles in Paris at the weekends must be putting off tourists.

Theatre producers everywhere must hate authors who write shows such as
7 Brides for 7 Brothers (why not 2 Brides for 2 Brothers?)
Snow White and the 3 Dwarfs (2 if it's a Bill Kenwright show).
2 Guys Named Mo.
The Witch of Eastwick
The Pirate of Penzance.

Last night at Avalanche, three women on the front row chatted throughout and appeared to be utterly bored, and then leapt to their feet at the end. Sometimes I feel like I don’t understand other humans. A man in front of me slept through most of Allelujah by Alan Bennett at the Bridge Theatre and then unbelievably leapt to his feet applauding at the end!!

I would have thought that losing 3 shows revenue in a week would be worse financially than employing an extra couple of swings. Most of the costs are fixed - hire of theatre, wages etc. Unless they are insured in some way or the ticket sales were very poor. In any case it looks very unprofessional. The hosting theatre cannot be happy losing bar sales on Friday/Saturday night.

Dress circle front section £75 (£80 Saturday) seats down to £39.50 (£42 Saturday) all performances to 8th June with code MOLM2019. Usual £2.25 per ticket booking fee applies. Yes, much better pricing, but is it too little too late? Still huge availability and after the poor reviews I don't think it will do much for sales. It would have been better to charge sensible prices to start with and get a good advance and then it would have been critic proof!

Friday night cancelled? That doesn’t sound good. I enjoyed this at The Vaults but always thought it would struggle in large theatres on tour.

Brian Conley is booked to do his lucrative panto stint (in Plymouth) again from mid Dec to mid Jan '20. Leading WE roles don't come up that often (and no TV work) so he may just take a break from the show over Christmas and return mid Jan?

I guess it's just a filler extension until something comes in next year. I can't imagine there won't be something more attractive to ATG than 9 to 5 wanting the theatre next year. I'd even imagine something is a done deal. A full theatre is a full theatre. 9-5 has been very busy and this results in maximum bar takings etc. As long as business keeps up it will continue.

Still a HUGE amount of availability for this - the prices have come down - eg. Dress Circle now £75 and £65 midweek.
But for tonight - Stalls - 150 seats available Dress - 329 seats available Upper - 317 seats available
Monday Stalls - 188 Dress - 323 Upper - 450
Later in the run.... even more availability!
At 4.30pm this afternoon still Today Tix rush seats still available (released more?) offered row H stalls - great seats! Although I was withering in my "review" for £25 to see a production on this scale is a bargain from such a great seat! The orchestra alone is worth the price of admission!

That schedule is on the ENO website - MS could have looked it up. Interesting that Danielle's last performance is the Thursday night of the last week and Cassidy does the final 3 shows. Most unusual for the leading lady not to do the final night of the run. It's like she's leaving the production early!

Well I have booked for an early matinee. Haven’t been to the Coliseum for about 30 years, so I am excited to return. Went for row C side seats at £87. Indie’s little and one of the seats only has one row in front so I am hoping she gets a good view. Wouldn’t have known about the better midweek prices or the side stalls without this board. Front side stalls at the Coliseum are absolutely fine. The stage is wide and you are not too far to the side. If I was to book this those are the seats I would go for. The Coliseum is a beautiful theatre - it's a thrill to be in the building (like The London Palladium) - the only rather big disadvantage is that the stage seems a long way away even from the front stalls because of the large orchestra pit between the front stalls and the stage. Therefore, even the front row seems like mid stalls in any other theatre. The Circle and Upper Circle seem miles back although offer clear views. If the orchestra pit is covered (with the orchestra on stage) and the action brought forward (like Chess) this solves the distance and intimacy issues for the stalls but restricts the view from the back of the circles as the orchestra pit cannot be seen from those seats as the theatre wasn't designed to do that.

Apart from a reprise of a couple of numbers from his stage successes of Me & My Girl and Oliver I thought Robert Lindsay gave one of the laziest performances I’ve ever seen in panto with his very laid back take on Hook. I got the impression it was all rather beneath him and he really would have rather been somewhere else.

Isn’t it a completely different production company? Nothing to do with the ENO at all?

It's all guess work, however, you don't have to be an accountant to work out that with this show it isn't making the money the producers hoped. The costs are fixed - hire of theatre, cast, orchestra, crew, sets, costumes, creative fees etc. The box office take is poorer than anticipated with the gallery closed, LOTS of empty seats, dynamic discounting downwards (I noticed that seats that were £105 in the stalls are now £75 etc.) - a 25% reduction, and discounting - rush tickets etc. So although they may cover costs - the profit will be far less than hoped/anticipated. This show will not take the money the other shows have done I am sure.

The band ( I hesitate to say that 14 musicians is an orchestra) will still number 14 - it is just that half of them have not been rehired for some unknown reason. 5 have been kept on and 2 go and play for Mary Poppins. New musicians will be brought in. I assume (again) this is about money in that the new musicians will be cheaper and on a different contract.
Clearly without the revolve (with the high maintenance issues) less staff are required backstage.
The royalties of the original creatives will not be paid on this "new" production - a huge saving I suspect.
So the show will be much cheaper to run - again, as it was when it moved from the Palace to the Queens. The prices off course will not be cheaper!
My question is this - do we think it will continue to be successful? If the production is deemed inferior will the audience fall away. Even long runners close eventually - Cats, Starlight Express etc. Has Cam Mack shot himself in the foot? Or do we think like The Mousetrap and Phantom the show is almost immune to the usual artistic criteria?
