I may have missed some news... are they consolidating the two parts into a single performance, thus requiring cuts? Only in north America

He definitely does get laid, in the secret production that Rob Ashford directed in Marocco a couple of years ago Petra sang "Miller's Son" right next to a yummy naked Frid. Trevor Nunn restored the song for the Menier revival, but he eventually agreed with Sondheim and cut the song before the West End transfer. For those who care here there is Sondheim himself singing "Silly People": through-my-memoirs.tumblr.com/search/silly%20people

soundcloud.com/user-487955219/tom-deering-on-carousel-orchestrationFinally had a chance to listen to the Open Air Theatre podcast episode. Musical Supervisor + Orchestrator has excluded strings from the score of this piece and there will be changes to the key too to the songs. Theres a sample of how If I Loved You too. Not sure how I feel about this as I was hoping for a full orchestra but will wait to see it in person before I give a full opinion. Yeah, a couple of days ago Rebecca Caine was raging against the lowered keys

Was the original ever filmed? There’s so much merchandising around Harry Potter it seems odd they’ve not cashed in on the play more. By the time the pandemic hit Broadway it had started to struggle a little, the two plays format is harder to sell to tourists

Very interesting. Not unexpected but still interesting to see how they will handle it.

There are some absolutely gorgeous cemeteries that are wonderful to walk around, especially Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park and Highgate Cemetery (in which you can also see the world's largest potted plant); Hyde Park Pets Cemetery too. I enjoy having a lunch break in the ruins of St. Dunstan-in-the-East, a church destroyed during the Blitz and turned into a public garden.
The underground Temple of Mithras is worth a watch, and the Old Operating Theatre Museum is creepy in a funny way and some times they show horror movies there. The Petrie Museum at UCL has a lovely and underappreciated collection of Egyptian Archeology. Also, despite being at the very center of the city, Banqueting Hall is very neglected by tourists and visitors: the Rubens' painting on the ceilings are just spectacular. From the top of One New Change there is a wonderful view of Saint Paul Cathedral.

I always find annoying when they don't even try to cast a middle aged actress as Berthe. I understand the reasons why, but still it is not great. No Time at All is a great number and it's totally wasted on some 20 something chorus girl; it was particularly heinous in the recent Southwark production.

Just had a look at their website. Indecent says its a play with "small live Klezmer band". Looking at the cast there seem to be quite a few MT actors in it. Its not a production I am familiar with, does anyone know about it and if its a musical, play or play with music? Play

Juliet Stevenson has a CBE (according to Wikipedia), but, yes, it's hard to believe she hasn't been offered a damehood. In reference to the RSC thread, I'd guess Alun Armstrong and Adrian Noble must have been offered honours and turned them down. Roger Allam too!

I mean Jonathan Pryce got an Oscar nod last year, he's not exactly dwelling in obscurity. And he's also a two times Tony and Laurence Olivier Award winner. There are bigger names for sure, but I wouldn't say his career is inferior to SRB, especially on an international level.

Well .... I saw this tonight. I was disappointed. The cast is great and it looks super - but it all falls a little flat. The singing was obviously all done in a studio beforehand... and there are no breaths/etc and it doesn’t look or sound natural, more like a lip sync recording. It’s all a little “plastic” if that makes sense and a tad over produced. Next up the book / changes. The story is thin anyway, but there were many times during the film where I was, well, bored. It’s almost 2 1/2 hours and it sadly dragged. I didn’t like the abstract drawing in mid air, that idea was never followed through. That said, the group street dance sections and montages are magnificent (though perhaps a tad busy and again over produced). The rap to pop to Latino melodies of this musical pre Hamilton are glorious as we all know. The music and dancing is what saves it - it was after all a wonderful stage show but this stage to screen version sadly lost its magic for me. Coming to the original stage show.... I was angry that they ramped up all the social division, politics and race issues too. Why? At one point I thought it was like watching social justice the musical. Also when was it meant to be set? 2015? 2020? Would there really be no white, Arab, Russian or Asian people living in the far upper east side area Washington Heights? Not ONE? Really? I thought this obvious Latino division meets ghetto made the film divided / especially the downtown scenes “where she met the white folk” and added sub text to characters journeys. Cringe. Empowerment and the fight for inclusivity I’m afraid can come across that you’re just fighting discrimination with discrimination. Ugh. For these book changes I sadly felt that it became a racially loaded musical about immigration, xenophobia (both ways), socio-economic tension in modern day NYC and racial division that it never EVER was on stage. Such a shame as the cast were superb. The book should have been left alone. I don’t understand your points regarding race whatsoever. Did you see the stage production - the London King’s Cross cast were the same diverse combination of ethnicities which you describe in the film. I personally find it baffling that you were even trying to look for a white actor. Actually the London production had a white Usnavi, a casting decision that got its own share of criticism. In a particularly unfortunate interview the actor acknowledged this but also said that he grew up listening to rap and hip hop, which for him seemed to equate being a person of colour somehow. But yeah the casting of the movie mirrors the casting of the original Broadway production, but to be fair there is little point in engaging with musicalmarge when they start railing against race and casting. Their "For these book changes I sadly felt that it became a racially loaded musical about immigration, xenophobia (both ways), socio-economic tension in modern day NYC and racial division that it never EVER was on stage" really tells you everything you need to know about their understanding of the show.

Yeah I sincerely doubt it will be someone as huge as Dench, it would have been announced straight away. She'll be played by some recognisable name like Monica Dolan or Clare Burt. There's hardly a lack of well known middle aged actresses in British showbiz

Does anyone really want to see a dirty looking Sally Bowles croaking out Maybe This Time? No. Except the Broadway audience who saw the Sam Mendes' revival running for 6+1 years with mostly non belting Sallies? Or John Kander himself saying Judi Dench is the best Sally he has ever seen? Or more generally the audiences of most post-movie revivals which had healthy runs without powerhouse belters both in London and on Broadway?
