Jonathan Larson's musical will be heading to the big screen, Directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda
I presume it will be a small indie film like The Last 5 Years was.

Speaking of small indie musicals what ever happened to Hello Again? Came out mid 2017 and was ripped to shreds (29% on Rotten Tomatoes), suspect it failed to get a distributor in the UK

Speaking of small indie musicals what ever happened to Hello Again? I watched it on Amazon. Not as bad as I was expecting plus an extra song for Audra so not all bad!

Wow!
Saw it tonight at the cinema.
I am simply gushing.
Look out for all of the Broadway cameos.
The whole Sunday in the Park sequence- wow!
You can see all of the references and nods towards Rent.
Andrew Garfield IS Jonathan Larson
Just go and see it!

It will have finished by the time I find a screening in my neck of the woods! I’ll just wait a week for netflix. (But I can’t wait…it contains so many if my fave mt songs).

I do like the look of this film but I’ve not seen RENT yet (despicable I know, but it is on my list I promise!).
Will I be alright or will I need to see it first to understand the film?

I wondered about this as it's readily available for me and there were no new releases which much appealed (certainly not the heavily-promoted Mothering Sunday) but - heresy I know - whilst I like stage musicals, I tend more to plays than MT and particularly don't like filmed versions of musicals as I'd rather see the show live. So, question for those who've seen this, please: is it more like a film with music about the writing of a musical, in which case fine, or is it more like another filmed musical?

Unfortunately, as I have never seen this show staged I am not in a position to comment as to whether this is a filmed musical or not. If I had to pick from the options presented I'd say it's more like a film with music about the writing of a musical. Hope that helps.

I've just seen this in an almost empty cinema. I didn't know the show before but thought this film was fantastic.

I thought this was absolutely brilliant, one of the best films of the year for me. Andrew Garfield is sensational as Jonathan Larson, and is a much, much better singer than I thought he would be. A stunning performance that I hope gets some nominations. Also loved Robin de Jesus as Michael, and I loved all the Broadway cameos (there are seriously a lot of them!). I didn't know any of the music going in, and not being a fan of the Rent music, I was a bit apprehensive, but I loved the score to this.

There's a great interview with Andrew Garfield on last Kermode and Mayo's film review from around 52nd minute.

Listening to the soundtrack now on a car journey. Why these songs haven’t entered into musical theatre consciousness as much as Rent is beyond me. So so gorgeous.

Did anyone else see the Menier production of Tick Tick, Boom, with Neil Patrick Harris? It was years ago now. Also had Cassidy Jansen in one of her very early roles. I remember enjoying it, but thought it was all a bit frantic. It was a great introduction to the score though.

I didn’t quite “get it” as a piece at the time, apart from really enjoying the score, but it has since grown on me massively.

I saw the Sedos production a few years back, and loved it. Unexpectedly, as I can't stand Rent and have been unable to get through any of the three filmed versions.

Yes, though my ticket was in the ‘extended’ bit of run (I think?) so I saw Christian Campbell instead. I really enjoyed it, having loved the original cast album - looking forward to catching the film ASAP…
