Just seen the second preview and this is a very enjoyable production. The Menier space is skilfully used and somehow felt larger than normal. Sir Trev, present at this preview, and, as ever, resplendent from head to toe in blue denim, has coaxed some really subtle performances from his excellent cast. This is essential in this musical otherwise it can fail to engage and drag. Andy Nyman seemed a little nervous for the first few minutes but then was fantastic - the best Tevye I've yet seen. I enjoyed last year's Chichester performance but this is infinitely more nuanced. That being said, the ending moved me more in Sussex, but I guess this will deepen by press night - it was very tight for a second performance. Definitely recommended and great to see things back on form after Brigstocke's p*ss-poor Barnum. Thanks for the review! What is the current running time?

Not a single name mentioned in this thread would be a box office hit for this show. Nor is the one they picked - who most UK theatre goers will never have heard of . There's plenty of reliably good UK actresses who could play the role well, and a lot of recordings of them singing from the show extremely well.
This is another symptom of US producers dominating the UK market, and just throwing in someone they know, rather than looking at the domestic talent that's as good or better.
Perhaps it’s the case where they offered her first refusal for London as part of enticing her to do Broadway? She is the biggest name (aside from Sara) who has played the name in New York.

Just seen on Instagram, Francesca Ellis went on for Sarah a few days ago. Don't know if it's been mentioned on here. Leaving Patti and Jonathan the two "on the poster" names to not call out of the show, which is hardly surprising given Patti's attitude to always doing shows. Has everyone called out now except for Patti and Jonathan?

John was out yesterday night (Thursday)...
Was that scheduled because of Children in Need? Is he indisposed?
Will he be on tonight?

Yes, funny enough I had an email from the producer (a longtime reader of my site) about it this morning. It's a pop musical based on Hans Anderson (or his dwarf's) story "The Little Match Girl." For monkey readers (and I'm sharing it here too), for all performances 28th November to 23rd December, £25 tickets reduced to £20 using promo code STRIKE20 at www.striking12.co.uk or via the Union Theatre website (uniontheatre.biz). Please note that the promo code is entered at the final stage of the booking. The monkey does god's work....I believe you were put here to enrich out theatre going experiences and I think I speak for everyone when i say THANK YOU! Your website and advice are without peer...

I am not sure if it is true or not, which is why I said it was a rumour. It is 100% not substantiated.
Just a note - Raul Esparza played the role about ten years ago and he was no way 35 then either LOL.
Maybe they will try to get a star like Anne Hathaway?

When this transfers to Broadway (when, not if) I hear a rumor that Audra McDonald will be Bobbie....she would be AMAZING! And she's friends with Patti so that would keep the KWEEN happy too

For those purchasing advance tickets, is the best option the theatre website or are there other (better) options? I booked through the Delfont Mackintosh site. You will get to pick your exact seats and there are no booking fees. Agencies are great too but they get an allotment so their ticket options may be slightly different.

With cast changes I don't see a long run for this show. TBF I don't think it was ever destined to become the next Wicked or Phantom but I think it'll hit the 2 year mark. This will be the second Christmas it is around and I reckon it has at least one more Christmas left in it...

Luke Bayer has confirmed he will depart the show January 26th, so his final alternate show will be January 23rd, with his contract and ending on the 26th. Kinda gutted, not gonna lie, but I'm sure it's not the last we will see of him! I have heard murmurings that Jordan Cunningham will be the new Jamie Alternate, which is why he has been bumped up to Understudy Jamie. Baz reports that Rebecca McGinnis is staying on and that they’ll have a black father. Interesting.

If it is in fact Bev, they'll want a rebrand anyway to reflect her being in the cast... Not really, they haven't rebranded to showcase Michelle and she is a much bigger International star! Heavy promotion sure, but not a rebrand of the whole show. Yes - you are probably right - though is Beverely signed for 6 months or a year, that may be in her contract?

Beverley announcement imminent I imagine. Baz will lose his mind with Bev AND Layton in the show...he will be there all the time! He is a big supporter of both of them. I can;t wait to see them together too!
