Oh bloody hell. I'm rethinking that 'hotel next door' thing now! Though I am pleased he's up there, for his own sake!

The thing is, I don’t doubt her talent. Her voice isn’t the problem for me. It’s her personality and to some extent her appearance. What about her appearance offends you? Already explained above - she looks a lot older than Ariana Grande, and she's also odd looking in a way that just doesn't fit Elphaba for me. I can see why someone might like the look for Elphaba, but it doesn't work for me. It's a personal thing, I get that not everyone will agree and that's fine. We all imagine different things.

If they need someone with a bit more of a film reputation, Ariana DeBose was right there! Bah. I'm glad the casting works for some people and they can get excited, really. It's just disappointing for me, and after the Les Mis film mucked up so badly (Seyfried, Hathaway, Crowe and yes you Jackman I am looking at you) I was hoping for a good one.

It looks beautiful, but I don't think I'll ever stop being disappointed that they cast Cynthia Erivo. Genuinely curious, why so? And who would have been your pick? I only ask because I've been a big fan whenever I've seen her perform anything. I just don't like her. Her online persona put me right off the idea of ever seeing her perform live - though I suppose it's somewhat appropriate that she has a habit of deploying flying monkeys online if someone annoys her. And her involvement in the whole Great Comet debacle left a really sour taste in my mouth. Then, somewhat shallowly I'll admit, I just don't think she looks good in the role. She looks too old next to Ariana, and overall is just odd looking. I can get why that might have appealed to the casting directors for Elphaba, but it's not for me. She does have a beautiful voice, but I'm not convinced she won't mess that up by messing around with the score. That Defying Gravity ending was dire. Overall, I'd have cast almost anyone who has been Elphaba on Broadway over her, and quite a few of the West End actresses too.

I'm glad that I'm staying literally next door for this one, if they're being that big on security the queues will probably be a bit crazy. I'll probably not bring a bag at all.

Shared by the Book of Mormon Twitter page earlier, looks to be done for fun by some Korean musical theatre folk - their version of 'Hello'.Looks really good fun and very well done!

The only edit I'd be tempted to do there would be to have OJ actually on the stage. Make it clear where he went.

A woman as Greaseball, lack of Poppa, and a suspiciously short runtime? Pass. Hard pass.

Ridiculous woman. Her career is over, and all she's proving is that they were right to get rid of her.

Lack of talent wasn't the issue. One of the Broadway cast told me it was lack of a suitable theatre at the time. Not sure whether they'd have been kept in the know of course but he'd normally say 'no clue' if he had none.

Ah that makes sense - it wasn't until I saw her this evening that I realised she hadn't worn the wig at the dress rehearsal. Mustn't have been time to sort it. She did brilliantly, imagine having to go on that soon!
Evening performance was another level entirely, energy much higher and the audience seemed to love it. This is a really solid cast and I'm looking forward to seeing them later in the run too.

Did anybody bag a £1 ticket for the public dress rehearsal this afternoon? There are still some available via the Curve website if you are local and can spare the time. Yes, I just got back from that - spotted it and couldn't resist. The show is in fine form and tonight will be fantastic. I do miss the revolve a bit, but it's nothing crucial. The dress went ahead later than planned, apparently due to the need to rehearse one of the standbys (no pressure, going on first night!). No idea who as they didn't say, but I certainly didn't notice anything during the show itself so whoever it was, it was seamless from an audience perspective.

For his - and everyone else's - safety, I genuinely hope that Tom doesn't do stage door for this. I suspect he'll try in the beginning though.

Oh, what a shame. I love this play but no interest in it being modernised, even if I do get why they'd make it fifties.

I've yet to see any 'reinvention' that I preferred to the thing it tried to reinvent. Occasionally it's just as good, but often it ends up being change for change's sake. I absolutely cannot forgive the 'Momma' thing, for example, no matter who plays the role.
I'll probably see this, because we haven't had Starlight in the UK in any form for a long time, but I really just want the show I remember, or close to it.

Front of Royal Circle booked for July without any issues, I'm not a Jamie Lloyd fan but really curious to see Tom Holland in this role so looking forward to it.

'live vocals'
Oh no. I hope that doesn't mean all the live vocals are going into the finished product. Flashbacks to Les Miserables...

I'd love to see Beetlejuice there, but my gut feeling is that it needs a smaller house. I've been wrong before though! I have zero interest in The Producers, less than zero if they rework it 'for modern audiences' (goes from 'wouldn't pay to see it' to 'wouldn't take a free ticket'), so I'd personally see using the theatre for that as a waste.

Ryan Gosling nominated for Supporting Actor, as he should be. America Ferrera's nomination is a bit weird. She gave one overblown speech that could have been delivered by anyone, and was fairly forgettable otherwise.
And nothing for Margot Robbie, for the same damn film? The actual star of the film? She gave a fantastic performance in that, and if they can recognise that in Ken it seems way off to not recognise it in Barbie.

I've noticed something recently regarding single seats, not sure if it's new or if I just haven't spotted it before. Instead of showing all seats and refusing to sell single seats, some booking sites will outright change the seating plan to hide the seats they don't want you to have. So if you select that you want two seats, then change it to one, a lot of the seats on sale will just disappear.

For me, it's too expensive to see shows in anything approaching a decent seat for me to 'give things a chance' and risk wasting money. The last time I did that was 'Six', and I hated it and wished there was an interval to leave during. I'm fortunate enough to be able to travel to London for work and see shows without the added cost of travel a lot of the time, but I'm still not paying London prices for something I'm not reasonably sure I'll enjoy.
I will say that if I was more flexible about where I'll sit, it would be easier, but I just can't stand heads between me and the stage, ruins it for me regardless, so I usually have to shell out a bit more.

If we were all allowed to sing when we 'know the show', imagine the cacophony! That's what 'sing along' performances are for!

I saw this the other night and would put it at a solid 4 stars. It was very long! Joyce was fantastic, she even sounded like Winona, same with Bob who I absolutely loved. Hopper was good, but I wouldn't have known who he was if I hadn't been told, though I did see the occasional mannerism.
I know it was probably necessary, but there's a scene at the beginning where they might as well put up a card listing the character names and whose parents they are, it felt really clunky.
Excellent effects, loved the beginning especially. That and a slow motion part at the end looked like comic book panels. Beautifully done. I'll probably go back and see this again.
I'm hoping that at some point in the future, they'll use this story and film a prequel for Netflix, though I think it'll be a while.

I saw that production and also wished I'd left at the interval. Terrible. I'd go a step further and say that it was the fault of some of the cast, too, because there were some terrible performances going on. Amateur rubbish.

Seat service is impractical anyway. "Could you pass these G&Ts down the row to M19 please?" I've seen people actually refuse to do this when the request comes during the show and not the interval. "Can you pass this down?" "NO" <person looks at the stage and won't look back, others in the vicinity become deaf to requests> Nothing should be delivered after the interval, it's not fair to the rest of the audience.
