Bad Cinderella has been “snubbed” at the Tonys in the same way I was “snubbed” in the New Year Honours List! 🤣

Still haven't taken the leap and bought tickets yet... What are the cheap balcony seats like in this theatre? I reckon I'm going to buy the RV Balcony tickets for £28 and then go for the inevitable rush tickets later, given how poorly this seems to be selling overall. Had a browse today and couldn’t bring myself to buy anything yet either 🤷♂️

The original post was obviously about the swearing the oath, which isn’t being imposed on anyone. Are you swearing the oath? Nope, I’m not anti monarchy, but I’m not sitting in my living room swearing an oath to a TV 🤣

No one is imposing anything on you - don’t be ridiculous. I thought the choice for Head of State had been imposed without any fair selection process. Delighted to hear that's no longer the case. (If only.) The original post was obviously about the swearing the oath, which isn’t being imposed on anyone.

Oh, I'll be swearing all right. Just not in the fashion they're trying to impose on us peasants. No one is imposing anything on you - don’t be ridiculous.

It's really not fair to criticize anyone for failing to make the leads in Moulin Rouge come alive. Even in the movie they're cardboard cutouts that Kidman and McGregor fail to ignite, though that would've been the best thing for them. It just would have been nice if Bogyo had sung it without with voice cracking all over the place though. I think that was the main issue for me.

Oh, so you've meant your previous comment as a joke? As in 'what have I done to deserve such cruelty'? {Spoiler - click to view} I'm sorry, not being a native speaker makes it hard for me to get some things sometimes. Actually, I had to google 'whoosh', and only after I've read the definition at urbandictionary has it all finally made sense to me... or so I believe. Yes, and don’t be sorry

What have the public done to deserve that? What have the public done to deserve any of the existing professionally filmed shows? Whoosh

I don't really understand why it has to be just smart. I understand that it has to be for the alarm etc to work, but couldn't they also send out a normal SMS? Isn’t it also supposed to be able to alert people in specific areas? How would that work via SMS? This system would just send the signal to all phones within reach of masts in the relevant local area. Not aimed specifically at you, but: In the 50s did people expect the government to buy them TVs because it wasn’t fair that this new technology was available and they couldn’t access it?!

What is the issue exactly? We shouldn’t take advantage of a new technology to send a form of alert that hasn’t been possible before, because some people won’t get it? I didn't say that, I'm all for it. But you also can't be so flippant, say tough sh*t, and disregard a large portion of society. This is meant to be used for state of emergency after all. Its a bit like when companies answer to everything is to just put everything online. You need a plan for those who dont/can't access smart tech. We never had emergency alerts to phones in the UK before. We can now send alerts to all 4G/5G phones (in theory… I didn’t get it!). That doesn’t mean we should also find some alternative method of alerting people without 4G/5G phones. That’s totally illogical. What was the “plan” for everyone before this alert system was launched? Well that’s the plan now for those who can’t receive it!

The other issue is not everyone has smart devices, including many of the most vulnerable. What is the issue exactly? We shouldn’t take advantage of a new technology to send a form of alert that hasn’t been possible before, because some people won’t get it?

It's ironic, is it not, that in order to become King- something that he's waited for all his life- his mother had to die and she's not here to witness it. I guess it might be “ironic” if you were Alanis Morissette, but otherwise not.

Yes I read about that earlier too. If anyone does need to opt-out, there's information on how to do so here: www.gov.uk/alerts/how-alerts-workThe government are urging people not to opt-out unless you really need to, since the system is intended to alert people to significant danger. But it's good to get the information out there for people who may be worried about the implications on their personal circumstances. I don't want to be that person who is always contrary and I believe other countries have similar systems in place (anyone any experience of this?) but what kind of danger are we talking about here? Nuclear attack? As Rylance’s character says in that movie, ‘Would it help?’ Other dangers are more local, surely, flooding in Worcester say or mad dogs in Birmingham so what not test locally? Why this ooo aaaah the whole country stuff? Just gets on people’s what’s its. How would testing locally prove it’s working nationally?!

Can’t seem to find this anywhere online… How many performances did the original London production of Phantom achieve before it closed? Curious as to whether Broadway is more or less. Anyone know? According to Official London Theatre, between the 1986 opening and 7 Feb 2018, Phantom had 13,877 performances. So I suppose the rest could be calculated if you're familiar with their normal calendar prior to lockdown, including schedules for the festive season. Going by the standard eight shows a week model, with no extra performances that would be 416 shows per year, so I'm guestimating 14,741 going into March 2020, but not being completely familiar with the show calendar, I'm uncertain.
IBDB says 16 previews and 13,973 performances for Phantom B'way.
Thanks for doing the maths So sounds like the original played longer in London than New York.

When ALW says he takes instructions from the Phantom, what he actually means is he does whatever Cameron Mackintosh tells him to do.
So, a New York production of “The Phantom of the Opera” coming soon then. (What a legal and financial difference a missing “The” makes).

To be fair, the original poster was making a 'this would look good in there' post - they didn't have any intel Exactly! And I’ll still believe it when I see it. Like all the other London revivals of Starlight.

In your opinion. Not their's. You wanted a different cast but you bought the show. It’s not a shirt you can return because you do not like the colour. You bought WWRY you got WWRY No, it's not a shirt. It's a brand. They've missold on the strength of their brand. So let's wait and see what life there is for WWRY after the Coliseum... And if it's crap on the day perhaps I'll just heckle instead. Paying top dollar prices for karaoke dog'n'duck singers - total pi££take. Missold 🤣

I've worked in this industry for nearly 15 years, and I still hold the same opinion. As I said in the Mincemeat thread, agree to disagree etc. Sounds like blaming the exploited for being exploited, rather than criticising the exploiters.

So what will the next season be called? Best I can do is “Schmiss Saigon” but it needs to be a place name. “Schmunset Boulevard”? 🤣

They didn't cause the phenomenon existing in society. However there is evidence that they did contribute very significantly to causing what happened last night. A member of Front Of House tweeted that audience members had specifically quoted This Morning in justification/validation of their behaviour. Feltz, Hammond, O'Leary have powerful platforms to speak from - there's no Twitter pile-on, it's a Right To Reply. 100%. They broadcast their imbecile opinions into millions of homes. If thousands of people are bringing their stupidity to their attention then that is perfectly fair.

The film is on iplayer at the moment for anyone interested. I wonder how many lashes there are. When the BBC broadcast it in the afternoon recently there were only 13 instead of the full 39.

Just watched the recording from Thursday. Marti was (and is) a class act. This was long before I became an ALW fan, but it was this kind of thing that intrigued me about him - all the varied works, not just blockbuster West End shows. I wish he’d continued that way.
I saw Marti take over from Denise van Outen in the revised version, then again at the Other Palace (St James?) years later. That was a surreal night when Marti reached down from the stage and took my hands at the end of the show.
