If it is Nicole then the production is dead in the water. She won’t sell seats, while she’s easily one of the best vocalists out there she’s definitely one of the least famous pop stars. There are many roles I myself would love to see Nicole in but this isn’t it nor would many others.
My main issue is the alternate. No doubt they’ll go for someone without name recognition but unbelievable talent who’ll send us on the boards into space with her performance (any number of the industry names mentioned already would be inspired). If CZJ or someone of that calibre plays the role I’ll have to figure out a way to see both Normas during my short stint in London.

She might not be as big as star as she once was but I’d pay big money to see CZJ in Sunset.

I do love Sunset but I agree you need a HUGE star to sell this. Is it really worth it when we’ve had so many iterations in the last few years?

He definitely seems to be a star on the rise so I’m glad he’s being given the principle role. Very excited to see him in Edinburgh.

Any news on a broadway transfer? I hear Bille Piper is being considered to play Sally... Pretty sure that rumour has been going since Jessie announced her departure.

I really enjoyed it and appreciated the darker tone and new additions to the story. The remakes are pointless but if you ARE you going to do them then give us something a bit different. This movie was a lot of fun.

Seen someone suggest the Lullaby League is present in the photos of Morrible and Glinda, can anyone confirm?

How does pay work when actors make these one-off appearances?

Why? It's perfect animated. Even more pointless is the fact that the same leas actors and same writers are back. Absolutely pointless. Obviously ir will make squillions for Disney so that's good, for them. One Dwayne Johnson is back, Auliʻi Cravalho is only onboard as an Executive Producer. Since her casting wasn't mentioned in the original announcement yet her role as EP was it gives the impression she won't return to the role. I do find this one a bit odd, even though I have nothing against the live action remakes, but I think seeing that part of the world in a huge budget movie will be fantastic. Although, I think a far more interesting route would be to a live action sequel to to the original animated movie.

Interesting. Looking forward to seeing if it turns out that way. It's not going to turn out any other way. I doubt Warner Brothers would even grant permission for any likeness to the original film anyway, not when Warner Brothers have their own remake of The Wizard of Oz in production, as well as another Wizard of Oz story, told from Toto's perspective! Yeah, you said.

Adam James has joined the cast. It’s not announced who he’s playing but some sites are suggesting Glinda’s father.

Do you that as fact or is that a prediction? Given that the story is now 4-5 hours long it wouldn’t be out of the realms of possibility to make more call backs to The Wizard of Oz especially as Dorothy is featured in the book. I know that for a fact. Interesting. Looking forward to seeing if it turns out that way.

I wonder if they found someone to play Dorothy yet? I predict they’ll lease the rights to Judy’s imagine from Warner Bros and incorporate her into the movie instead of using a new actress as Dorothy. Dorothy won't be in it at all. Like the stage version, she'll be referenced but not actually seen. Do you that as fact or is that a prediction? Does anyone recognize this set? It was posted on a fan wicked movie account. Could it really be Wicked or perhaps another OZ film ? Pretty sure that’s an AI creation.

First amateur UK production has been just been announced by ALW Show Licensing for 2024! Can't see a professional production coming anytime soon if that's the case? www.facebook.com/WBOSmusicalsGreat for the group but very disappointed that this essentially kills any tour for the time being. I was sure a tour announcement was imminent.

Would we include The Greatest Showman in this? Hugely popular musical, but not theatre. But did it spawn a single "big" hit that topped the charts and was known to everyone, not just theatre circles? I think the chart-topping stuff died off in the 90s. For me this was also the decade when musical theatre disassociated itself from mainstream music with a flood of subpar Les Mis-style weepies, while pop music became more beat driven and indie rock had a revival with the Britpop wave. If anything, shows like Hamilton and Six have bridged the widening gap between pop(ular) music and musical theatre again, but not with single outstanding songs, just as a whole that reaches a younger generation beyond the typical theatregoer. Even massive stars can't really help when the product doesn't reach the masses, see Taylor Swift and Beautiful Ghosts (which wasn't a great song to begin with). And while some of the movie adaptations of popular musicals have been moderately successful, none were REAL smash hits at the box office. Some of the movie musicals like The Greatest Showman and A Star Is Born did better, but have they really made a lingering impact? I loved the songs from A Star Is Born like "Shallow" and have them in my playlists to this day, but I don't think they came anywhere near the long lasting success of either the big classics from the Golden Age or the big ALW chart toppers. This Is Me went to #3 on the UK charts and was easily one of the biggest songs on the year.

I was shocked when I saw the show on Broadway and realised how funny Glinda can actually be throughout the show? Amanda Jane Cooper had me in hysterics throughout. It's a pity UK Glindas aren't allowed to reach those same heights. To be fair, I think the American Glindas are the only ones who are funny because the Australian ones aren’t. They also go for the campy valley girl and use American accents. The accents work fine but the characterisation doesn’t.

Was just watching Linda Lewis singing the Evita song on YouTube which reminded me of this thread. Six years later…. Have we seen any more songs from musicals get into the charts? Or did we miss any the first time around? Mika and Ariana Grande’s version of Popular?

Nice to see it’s mostly the same cast. If nothing else it means London audiences won’t be deprived of the spectacle that is Marcus Collins during the curtain call. 😂 What did he do?

Brenda Edwards as Killer Queen and Lee Mead as Khashoggi. Disappointed about Brenda's casting, I really didn't enjoy her in WWRY last time out. Groundbreaking.

What’s Joanne Clifton’s singing like? I’ll probably book as I do love me a bit of Shrek but I do hope it’s not that cheap version with the puppets instead of actors for the two younger Fiona’s. Surprisingly rather good. She held her own in Flashdance when I had no expectations of her.

Wow they are going really classy with the casting. Just waiting for Alison Hammond to be Dorothy. I’d throw my money at that.
