It's mostly because their scheduled shows off tend to be spread out over the week I suspect so the scheduled shows off are spread over 5-6 shows a week. I've seen Courtney and Grace and both have been equally as good as the principal cast member they were covering for - so you're not missing out if you get one of the standbys. if I had to miss two I'd opt out of Millie and Alexia so if they don't mind being the ones to sacrifice themselves when I go that would be grand. I just have to see the other four, I just have too. 😍😍 For me, Millie was the stand out Queen when I saw the show last year. I was lucky to see all Six main queens.

Well in Fieyro news I’m finally glad the casting team have skipped the soap actors and cast a musical theatre performer. Ok technically both Aaron and David have been trained and performed in musical theatre, but clearly neither could sustain 8 shows a week. Fieyro isn’t a huge male role but both big songs when sung correctly sound completely different with a real singer - no contest between Bradley’s massive voice compared to Aaron who was very thin and couldn’t hit/sustain the long notes or David who took Dancing through Life down an octave on his opening night! Excited for new Wicked blood and if the witch rumours are true it’s going to be a good year! Aaron wasn't doing too badly on the "8 shows per week"-front if I recall correctly?! I'm not gonna talk about the quality of those performances though, but quantity-wise he didn't do too badly given it's a tour and people do end up being sick quite a bit more often than with non-touring productions... or maybe he just seems to have been above average because that average has been brought down by David xD No, fair challenge he did always seem to be on and only called out a few times, my issue with Aaron’s casting was the lack of tone or power in his voice. Perhaps I was spoilt having seen Bradley so many times but there was no comparison and I wonder if he was cast due to the touring audiences knowing who he was! “Fresh from EastEnders etc etc” Each to their own though I know there were people who loved him, he just wasn’t my cup of tea. Having seen Miss Saigon though I’m really excited with Alistair’s casting!

if someone says Amy Ross again I'm gonna have a mental breakdown Sadly I think that broom has flown and it won’t be Ms Ross, but obviously I’m gutted about that!

Imagine if a show like Heathers or Wicked had such a competition. It would be utter carnage! It would actually work quite well though, they end up wiping each other out in a Hunger Games style battle which would leave us in peace to watch and appreciate the show!

When Natalie Andreou left close to cast change they just brought a previous Elphaba into the building just incase, but would let Natalie McQueen go on first before the returning cast member.
So no guarantee they would bring a new Standby in as it’s a short space of time. If Sophie and Samantha call out then Rosa will go on and they’ll bring an emergency Standby in.

There’s probably a time and a place mate... now doesn’t seem like it! Your dead right, but no life’s have been lost. Am I expected to feel upset about a building that millions have been lavished on, where people starved, stop. A building that used slaves to build, stop. A building used for Catholic worship, watch the film Spotlight mate, stop. Usurping this the amount of historic building that have caught fire, you think they would’ve learned something, there is no excuse for a fire, completely avoidable, barring a lightning strike. A little decorum and respect wouldn’t go amiss, the fire isn’t even out yet.

But don’t forget the creative team in America have to sign off on the casting too and they’ve just done the Broadway auditions plus will have been doing US tour auditions too.
Rehearsals won’t start till mid June and we usually get an announcement in May so it’s not unusual that we’ve not heard yet.

Most of the time something would have leaked by now about who is rumoured to be joining ... the fact it hasn’t leads me to believe it’ll be tour cast moving into London, promotions of current cast or god forbid extensions of the current cast! They have not cast Elphaba yet so there is nothing to announce. I too have heard this rumour and from a different source to my learned friend!

I personally don’t think it’ll be her this year. Whilst it would be lovely, I think she is currently doing more of the teaching side of the industry. I feel like the reason she got so ill was due to touring the role. New cities, new pollen counts, having to allow your body to adapt etc. you change your opinion quite often it seems? 6 days ago you said that you "think Elphaba will be Amy Ross/Webb [...]" what happened that you now think she's not doing it anymore? 🤔 that she's teaching every now and then isn't anything new Wasn’t that me?! I think Dan has been quite consistent saying he doesn’t think Amy R will transfer to London.

Wicked is a case in point, the critics hated it - but those critics were probably all middle aged white men at the time so not target market!
It’s a huge success because it has a clear market, and a market that continues to grow as younger people discover theatre and its story.
Yes I’m sweeping with my generalisations, don’t @ me it’s my opinion...

Ever since Nikki, the idea of a touring Elphaba going into the West End makes me nervous. I can't wait to see what Amy does next, I just don't see it being Wicked. What happened with her? Nikki missed the end of the tour due to illness, there was an article shared previously on the ‘happy performer’ blog that linked to anxiety as a performer and the pressure on actresses to live up to expectations. I believe that was the reason she pulled out rather than a physical vocal injury for example. After she was announced as moving to London as lead, shortly after she missed a long run of dates and Jemma Alexander her Standby closed the tour. I think a similar thing happened with Jackie Hughes on the international tour.

Whilst Amy might have said she wouldn’t want to play the same role twice, I truly hope the opportunity is given to her and she takes it.
Yes it’s not a ‘new’ actress to the role but Amy was brand new to the tour and absolutely smashed it, she’d be new to London and thoroughly deserves to play the role in the West End.

And logic will say they’ll bring someone in temporarily such as Charli without a fuss or fanfare and keep any announcements until cast change.
That’s what they did when Natalie Andreou left early.

oh finally, something we both agree on, I'm so overrated. Please let’s not turn this into another Daniel Johnson thread. The last ‘Daniel Johnson thread’ as you describe it was Dan fighting the corner of being allowed to be recognised as a gay person, where other members of this board were trying to tell us that being gay is a lifestyle choice. But @tom89 please don’t belittle Daniel in that manner who was trying to defend many on this board when the mods wouldn’t!

With Sheridan and Jason they don’t need a name for Jospeh so this is great casting to bring someone new and fresh faced to audiences!
I’m really hoping DEH does something similar to cast ‘names’ as the adults and find a star for Evan.

Yes my understanding is they’re all on different contracts so you could have a different person in rehearsal each week. That’s why there’s not so much of an announcement like we get over here where it’s a full cast change.
The other strange thing is how they manage illness, of a lead is off for more than a few weeks they’ll bring in a replacement rather than have the U/S in for long periods. So glad we don’t have that approach as we get to see the talent in the U/S and swings.

Exciting. I think there are loads of great options for the leads in this. I can see past Elphabi scrapping it out in the audition room!

I can't imagine they'd go through this very lengthy audition process and essentially waste people's time if Amy was already signed up. Lol you are joking right? Remember that time when they had recast Glinda then Savannah decided to stay? Or like Waitress UK had 3 British in finals for Jenna then offered KMP more money so she accepted? They go through this process without fail every year, just to have all bases covered - then the next year they will get people back in from last year, along with the new people they have been seeing. Casting is not like an office job where they wait until someone puts their notice in to find someone new. Although Les Mis & Phantom is like that for the most part, they tend to ask who’s staying, then put return offers out, then recast for the tracks they need to recast for. Cam Mac is not actually the villain he’s painted out to be. I agree... if it’s not Amy Ross I’ll eat my hat!
