Tom Burke showed up on stage at around 1am. It made for a nice scene! I left at midnight, and I saw a very beardy guy, that might have been Tom Burke, who had her chasing him around the stage, just before I left. He made it clear he was leaving her, which would ordinarily trigger a mass splattering of noodles, etc, then moved away from her into the safety of the corner chair to escape her. He did dance with her quite romantically after that though. Was that the one lol? I don’t think that was him. At least that’s not how I interpreted his performance. If it helps you figure out if you saw him, I think he was the only one (at least from the ones I saw) who put the chopsticks in his mouth as if they were fangs and then went to dance with her that way.

This has starting casting here now. So no American cast. 🎭 That's a shame. No doubt we have some wonderful performers in the UK who can step into those mighty shoes, but seeing the original cast who had been with the show over the years of development and off-Broadway in NY was off-the-scale brilliant. I'd love to have seen them reprise their roles here, especially John-Andrew Morrison, L.Morgan Lee and Jaquel Spivey. Sadly I agree with some other people on this strand about the suitability of The Barbican for this show. I know producers have to take what they can get, but it would be much better suited in my opinion, to a more intimate space like The Dorfman or Donmar. Aside from the possible dramatic distancing problem, I hope they don't end up with poorly attended shows. I'm curious to see how much accommodation will be made in the script for a UK audience as there were certainly a few references in the show that I didn't get at all on my first visit. Personally I don't think ASL is a niche show. Edgy for sure and definitely not a Shaftesbury Avenue fodder, but it has so much to say and to think about afterwards. I was enormously moved and uplifted by it and on the surface have nothing in common with the big picture themes of the piece. If people are on the fence about seeing it, I'd suggest listening to the glorious OBC recording (perhaps giving 'Inwood Daddy' a miss until you see it in context!). I agree with the advice about skipping Inwood Daddy. While I found that scene incredibly powerful on stage, I have a really hard time listening to it in the cast recording. I wish the album had given that one a miss, or at least removed the most gruesome talking bits.

I made my second visit post transfer on Monday night. Everything is bedded in well now. I got the end of Row A as a rush ticket, which is a perfect seat. Second row, but no one in front. Still pretty central, but a clearer angle to see the stage around the band. Still in the splash zone though. One gentleman in the middle of the front row left about five minutes before the interval and didn't return. There have been some changes since previews and a lot of things have been simplified. They no longer peel and break up the corn (or indeed have any corn on stage). And during the interpretative dance, the shoes fall one or two at a time over the course of a minute, rather than all at once. I have no idea what that version (or the previous one) is meant to simplify. I think they do the final effect in a different way to at the Young Vic. There is a lot of advertising for this production out around the tube network, including some big billboards. The show also finished at 10:20pm, so shorter than before. I can't pick up on any obvious cuts, so perhaps the interval was shorter. This remains excellent. To be fair, they do have some corn in the second act. I think it’s during The Farmer and the Cowman, and it’s Rebekah Hinds‘ character eating a real corn during the scene. I noticed this when I went on Thursday this week. That being said, I really miss all the corn during Many a New Day. I think it was hilarious and somehow always felt quite postfeminist to me. In the current iteration, I think the women are just sitting down while singing the song. The voices are still beautiful, but the scene is definitely not as strong as it was at the Young Vic for me.

Oh I do hope she’s enjoying her shifts at Greggs or wherever she ended up. Carly Mercedes Dyer as Persephone please ( If we don’t get Amber Grey) Ooh, I’d love that casting!

Am I right in thinking the original NT cast included that awful woman who declared homosexuality to be evil or something? Arent you thinking of Seyi Omooba and Color Purple? Or was there something else? Yes, the NT cast included Seyi Omooba.

promo code is intheloop on the barbican website, got a £10 ticket for previews (they only showed up once I logged in to my account). I thought for £10 I can check it out! Where are the £10 seats located? I couldn't find £10 seats for any of the previews (cheapest one is £20) so I am guessing they sold out.

Are there one or two intervals for this? I believe it was only one interval when it was in New York. Plus, londontheatre says "Run time. 3h 40m (incl. 1 interval)", so if we trust them, that's your answer. I'm hoping for two, though.

What was availability like at time of selection? There was availability for all pwc dates, but very few tickets for the Saturday performance. Also, I'm still stuck on the payment page.

Where are the tickets usually located? When I did the Friday rush for sky's edge, they had tickets in the front rows of the stalls and in the middle rows of the circle.

The Olivier noms have really shifted some tickets for this one. I looked a few days ago and there was great availability for the rest of the run. Now there's not a lot left! Yup and I tried for the Friday Rush and there were 1500+ people ahead of me and it took me I've an hour to get through (needless to say, there were no rush tickets left by then). I haven't tried the rush very often at the NT but I've never experienced numbers like those, unless I was just a lot more lucky those other few times than I realised? I also did the rush yesterday and indeed the numbers were very high. I managed to go in almost straight away and get tickets, but my partner who tried as well had hundreds in front of him.

I've just watched the highlights for this on youtube. I couldn't help but notice they performed songs from recent Broadway shows, more specifically from Strange Loop, Beetlejuice and Paradise Square. Is that a common thing they do at this ceremony, or could that be a marketing strategy indicating these shows might have a life in the UK at some point in the near future?

If you're into large rotating sets inside glass boxes and waiting many minutes for each of many set changes, maybe you'll enjoy it. Many scenes were very funny, but I have the feeling that was not the intention of the production - lots of the text is overdramatic and pointless. Janet Mcteer is quite good, the rest of the cast I'm sure will get better. I don't want to be too mean as I'm sure it will improve after a few performances, and some things that bothered me will get better. But even then I do not think this is a good play. What was the running time? 3h15min, but I’m sure that will change.

do we know if the on stage tickets will be cheaper? or around what price point they will be? They’re supposed to be £25 and £35 according to I read on Twitter.

I'm also curious to know whether this play is any good before I buy tickets. I really want to support the NT but their productions have been so hit and miss recently. This ran for about 3h15min today, if anyone is interested. Some scene changes took forever though, so it will probably be shorter in a few weeks.

On seven visits and counting - have sat in all sections excepting Richmond, and twice each in Manhattan and The Bronx. Unsurprisingly the best seats are the priciest but as I said in my previous post there are no bad seats. Both of my Manhattan seats were in ZE (back row) but view still reasonable for price paid, and even up there you'll get pretty close to the odd Newsie or two, even if on another level... Favourite seat so far was in Brooklyn row D (front row) - this was for a preview performance so excellent value at the time, just beware trip hazards, torn papes (do be respectful if you want to grab one for a souvenir...) and jumping Newsies! I'll stick my neck out a bit and suggest (expecially if you've sat in Brooklyn or Manhattan before and are on a budget) to try one of the extreme side seats in Flushing or The Bronx, priced as little as £32.50 (I'd choose Flushing as there feels to be more action on that side). You might miss as little as 5% of the main action but gain A LOT in seeing scenes from different angles and also a lot of individual character detail and interactions that would probably be missed on a first viewing. (Agree with Dr Tom above!) Aisle or front row seats in the side sections or Brooklyn are also best for a pape... Overall if I had £100 to spend on tickets I'd split it between three seats/angles in the cheaper seating (say Manhattan for first show, then Flushing, then The Bronx - and one of these should be front row) rather than splashing out on just one seat in Brooklyn. It really does deserve at least a few visits! By the way, does anyone know why both shows on 2 April are showing as sold out? April 2 is the Olivier awards, so it could be related to that. Maybe they don’t have enough Newsies to perform at the RAH and in Wembley at the same time and decided to cancel those performances?

4* from the Guardian, looks like it wasn’t the disaster we all thought it might be. As someone who hasn't seen the show yet, I am very much intrigued. I will probably be giving it a try this time around.

I went to see it on a Monday a few weeks back and it was far from sold out. Maybe 70% capacity? And they barely did any dynamic pricing for that performance. However, I have seen the attendance at Hamilton fluctuate quite a bit in the last few years - sometimes it just sells out consistently, and then it just doesn't for a while.

This was sensational I thought Katie Brayben is an absolute powerhouse The feeling when you leave the theatre & immediately try to listen to the cast recording, and there isn't one.... grrr I know, right? The second time I watched it, I consciously tried to memorize some of the songs, so that I could sing them in my mind after the show instead of just humming.
