I should also mention this thread is a trojan horse for the marvellous Landscape Artist of the Year and Portrait Artist of the Year (7pm to 9pm on Wednesdays), which is a highlight of the week every week - Sky Arts (available on Freeview is you don't have a sub). More about that on ... Wednesday

I saw it at the cinema as my mate Cynthia was in it. It wasn't my kind of film to be honest and I much preferred the British adaptation of it a few years ago. It's a Linda La Plante book. But I'm sure others will enjoy it.

I similarly watched it because I was intrigued as to whether Cynthia Erivo can do film acting (she can). It's ok, not brilliant but not terrible either.

Doctor Who...but catch up of the final episodes of Paris Police 1900 - which was on BBC4. A brilliantly rich, historical crime drama, set at the time of the second Dreyfus trial. Highly recommended.

I rather enjoyed the 1st episode of Showtrial on BBC1 last night. Snap! I'm rubbish at names of telly actors but thought the actor playing the spoilt rich kid was brilliant. Every episode is now on iplayer and I'm resisting the urge to binge.

Every week I'm in pieces afterwards - what a show is Portrait Artist of the Year! Thank you lynette for again performing drinkies duties, and also for that particularly fetching Mary Quant frock from 1968 .. The rest of you are umnetionabkle Philistines!

Just finished Showtrial. So frustrated not to have a satisfactory ending. After 5 hours, we deserved clarity not more teasing.
Feel cheated

I know there was a verdict. I wanted the truth of what happened. But isn't that a lawyers dilemma? I loved the uncertainty as it reminded me, it is not just in my profession of social work that has it. Somethings you just never know and you have to accept it as part of the job description.

Okay, another chance tonight for you appalling Philistines. 9pm BBC 4 - the return of Britan’s Lost Masterpieces. It's like Who Do You Think You Are but for paintings. Sometimes a bit of a stretch but all good, clean fun.
Don't be late.

New ‘tec series, Dalgiesh on 5. How are you feeling about it Lynette? I love PD James and used to sit and watch the Roy Marsden Dalgleish with my Nana on a Friday night. These have been really heavy and dour. I know they aren’t meant to be knockabout comedy but it’s just too oppressive. Like Bertie Carvell a lot though.

I think you'll find it was well within its rights to leave y.... can't be arsed finishing this comm.. Given the previous use of flashbacks in the narrative, it was reasonable to think that they might use that device to show us what really happened. If we hadn't have earlier flashbacks, I would have had different expectations. For a crime story to be satisfying for me, I like a clear explanation of what happened even if justice was not properly served. Yes, this was a TV drama and not bound by the usual rules of crime fiction but it doesn't stop me feeling unsatisfied by the final 15 minutes.
