Hopefully this more than wishful thinking. Having watched Beetlejuice you-know-where I really want to see it in the flesh !

Just saying this is a fantasy transfer you’d love to see or just saying you believe it’s happening? 🙂 (be careful, there’s very painful history on this forum regarding certain members transfer rumours *cough-cough Dolly cough* and we’re still hurting) 😫

I personally can’t see it coming over until 2023 at the earliest now they’ve just announced the Broadway re-opening, but I really hope it does happen... and Mr Lipkin would indeed be brilliant casting!

I am more than thrilled that Beetlejuice is coming back to Broadway. I'd like to see it in Germany and London too.
What would be the best theatre in London for Beetlejuice? I think they want a larger theatre so it has to be more than 1100 seats.
My first choice would be The Dominion. Second would be the Apollo Victoria - if Wicked is at the end of its run.
These are the largest theatres in London
The Dominion – 2,069 The Lyceum – 2,100 The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane – 2,196 The Apollo Victoria 2,208 London Palladium – 2,286
Maybe the London Palladium? What if Beetlejuice played the London Palladium but took a break from December 1 - January 16th for the annual panto. That's a really dynamic thought.
Is Hairspray really going to run in the Dominion. Maybe 4 months limited. I saw it last week and enjoyed it, but can't imagine it running for more than a few months.
The Lion King is here to stay. Frozen is just bad. Wicked has had seats available for years, and it's run for years.
Thoughts?

If Beetlejuice opens downsized back on Broadway as previously reported, I could definitely see this going into the Savoy or the Prince Edward. Larger theatres are too much of a liability.

I mean I'd like to see it turn up here but...not in a 2000 seat venue!!
Also what show do you know of that just randomly takes 6 weeks off at Christmas?

There’s no way Cameron will allow another show in his flagship theatre. He will continue to put cheap touring versions of his shows in there for years to come.

If Beetlejuice opens downsized back on Broadway as previously reported, I could definitely see this going into the Savoy or the Prince Edward. Larger theatres are too much of a liability. A downsized Beetlejuice sounds horrendous. By far the best thing about it on Broadway was the set, with Alex Brightman's performance a strong second. Without both these elements, the show really doesn't have much else going for it. When I saw it on Broadway I had high hopes, and I love the movie, but it just... doesn't work (IMO). The changes from the movie are vast - and most aren't for the better. There are some problematic choices in the narrative and lyrics (A young girl pining after a "creepy old guy"?) and the tone of the second act is distinctly more Addams Family than Beetlejuice. Even the numbers from the original - such as Day-O - are skewed from their on screen incarnations into something much less satisfying. Back to the Future has shown how an effects-heavy, 1980s, revered film can be transposed well to the stage. Any London-bound Beetlejuice needs reworking, looking to BTTF's strengths for inspiration. If it's just a scaled back version of what was on Broadway, I really can't see it doing well or lasting over here.

I'd much rather see it transfer to a middle-large sized house than a barn like the Dominion or Apollo Victoria (I don't like them) so would be good to see it in the likes of the Piccadilly or Savoy. I did think that Mean Girls would be a fitting transfer into the Savoy though.

Not this again acting like CM puts on BK quality shows in the West End. His "cheap touring versions" of shows have still been more impressive than 85% of the rest of what's on in London at the time and you know it. Miss Saigon and Mary Poppins were/are both excellent and perfectly fitting of the Theatre.

Who exactly is the market for Beetlejuice in the U.K.? I suppose it should be me and my peers given the age of the film but I’ve never heard anyone ever talk about it in the last 30 years let alone express a desire to see it done with songs.

I agree, but I'd also have said the same for heathers and that seems to have found an audience of a new generation. Also beetlejuice on broadway caught a younger generations attention. It would be fantasy escapism that I think a lot of people will be after when the return to theatres.
I could see it somewhere like the Gillian Lynne Theatre if it did come over.

Who exactly is the market for Beetlejuice in the U.K.? I suppose it should be me and my peers given the age of the film but I’ve never heard anyone ever talk about it in the last 30 years let alone express a desire to see it done with songs. Isn't that the same for all the 80s/90s movies that have been and are being rehashed as musicals? Mark already mentioned Heathers, there's also Mean Girls, Mrs Doubtfire, Tootsie, Back to the Future and probably a dozen more that don't even scream stage adaption the way that string of popular 80s dance movies (Flashdance, Footloose, Dirty Dancing...) did. They're cashing in on the nostalgia of a generation who grew up with all of those movies and would much prefer to revisit some of those classics than brand-new musicals that are either dire to begin with or just don't appeal much. I mean, I'm a classic 80s gal and while I can easily acknowledge the brilliance of Hamilton in terms of how the story has been built, the clever lyrics and the diverse casting... I just don't care to see it again. Same with Come From Away, it had me in tears when I saw it live and it had me in tears again when I saw the filmed Broadway version on Apple+ now and I think it's a wonderful little show, but... just nothing that I'd care to see again and again. And it does seem like they have found ways to make the old stuff appealing to a new generation. Heathers the Musical isn't quite as dark as the movie, but still speaks to every female teenager who ever felt like an outsider at school and appreciates a strong assertive female lead. Beetlejuice the Musical did right (I think) in shifting the focus from the newly dead Maitlands (as the movie did) to teenage Lydia, coping with the loss of her mother and her distanced father, thus again speaking to a new young generation (while still not alienating the older generation for whom there's plenty to enjoy). There are plenty of movies I hadn't seen in many years recently, which something or other got me wanting to see them again, like not long ago the news that someone wanted to turn The Outsiders into a musical or the noise Tom Cruise is making over the Top Gun sequel. Bring it all on, I say, I'd much rather see these than any of the dire new stuff of recent years that's either obsessed with being woke or doesn't contain a single memorable tune or both.

Oh it's definitely nostalgia but some of those like back to the future and Mrs doubtfire are much more widely loved than beetlejuice which never seems to get talked about much.
