Working as normal (work in a NHS lab so can’t work from home), though I’m currently on annual leave which feels so weird because I can’t go out and do anything!

I was job hunting before this all hit, now I'm stuck at home being told not to go to public spaces so getting a job scared no no fir the forseable future.
Johnson needs to stop playing games and tell us how he expects to tell people to stay home without a Universal Basic Income.

Having a large glass of wine after a truly horrendous day making most of my team redundant and having to find a part time job in Tesco to make up for my 50% pay cut. Desperate times but looking forward to watching Wind in the Willows, Eugenius and many other shows on tele over the coming weeks. Stay safe everyone.

No idea your own situation or location - retail stores are hiring widely, reports anecdotally locally in London and in some mainstream press of people walking into their local Asda/Tesco and starting working within a few hours.

Working from home, trying to figure out how to get around the logistical issues created by that for parts of my job, but most of what I do can be done online so I'm not badly affected in that respect. Learning the art of video calls!

Working from home trying my best and at the moment succeeding to keep my part of the supply chain working as best as possible and that you get the essentials you need.

I’m very fortunate. I’m scheduling my day, a little light housework, short walk round the block, check in to theatreBoard, make lunch, read very interesting book, Difficult Women by Helen Lewis, plan dinner ( have food so far) watching West Wing. My level of anxiety does need management because of past difficulties but I really feel for anyone without job security and with other people to care for. I would like to get more techie savvy - can you hear the other Mods saying, ‘Yeah, we know’? - so if you can recommend a website which will teach me how to set up group chats and so on, I would appreciate.

In a hotel, waiting to move into a flat (I know I've got a place, just waiting for the paperwork to go through - it's slower than usual because everybody is working from home). Have no choice but to be in public spaces at least some of the time every day - I have no kitchen - but I'm keeping it to the barest minimum, avoiding other people as far as I possibly can, respecting social distancing, and washing/sanitising my hands obsessively. Will feel much calmer once I'm in space I can control - although even then there's going to be an uphill climb, because I have to furnish the place and stock the kitchen, which is going to be interesting in the current circumstances. I have no symptoms, knock wood, and I am avoiding restaurants.

What is the difference between "Shielding (not infected)" and "Self-isolating"? I'm not sure what I should be casting my vote for. What is the correct option for "quit job on Monday as I live with my mother & she is over 70"?

What is the difference between "Shielding (not infected)" and "Self-isolating"? I'm not sure what I should be casting my vote for. What is the correct option for "quit job on Monday as I live with my mother & she is over 70"? Is “self isolating” when you think you have it and for 14 days. And “shielding” to make sure a vulnerable person doesn’t catch it and is for 12 weeks? If so then I’m the latter as both my wife and son are likely to end up in hospital (at least) if they catch it. Quite organised at the moment - gardening, enough food, on a pension. But I’m up with toothache and have one of the last appointments tomorrow before my dentist closes for weeks. I’m thinking it’ll get extracted cos I can’t have ongoing treatment. Then I’ll have to isolate from the others in our house for 14 days just in case. Sigh.

Currently still volunteering at my usual local organisation for my 3 days per week but obviously under daily review. Really hope to avoid the dreaded WFH but being equipped and trained to do so and many staff already doing this for various reasons.
Much as I miss theatre and cinema I can make good use of the time by doing overdue admin & chores at home as we're about to put our house on the market and there's still a lot of de-cluttering/cleaning/minor repair work to do. Obviously hadn't planned for the coronavirus curveball but we'll carry on with our plan and get there sooner or later.

Currently working and commuting by tube and bus in London. It's quite scary and no chance of working from home unfortunately so have to continue unless they lockdown London.

Not working, finished my last job 2 weeks ago, vaguely looking for a new one but know it won’t happen for a while so trying to make the most of time off, without being able to do much.

Thanks. Though I do wonder if we're being advised to stay home how coming into contact with thousands of people a day can possibly be good for anyone. Of course the virus is going to spread that way!

Begrudgingly doing my university assignments at home, which is very hard for me because this is not a great environment for me but even if I wasn't social distancing and self-isolating for my own benefit. The library has been closed. After that's due on Thursday though - I have no idea. I'll probably get to that list of Nintendo Switch games I want to play.

Currently at normal place of work but last day in today then working from home. Doing all I can to remain positive, worrying won't change things and will just make me feel worse - difficult but doing the best I can so far

You assess your own risk level and whether you are willing to be in contact with others. No-one can decide that for you.

As I'm retired, I'm doing "something else".
I know some people won't agree with this, but - as well as visiting the supermarket every day to try to fit in the gaps in my fridge/larder - I'm still visiting my local restaurants and bars. I'd go stir crazy if my partner and I had to stay home day in, day out. And, after all, the Government hasn't closed shops, bars and restaurants - many assume this is a sop to the insurance industry who may well have to pay out if they are forcibly closed. So restaurants and bars have fewer customers and are expected to stay open. So I'll be going for as long as I can. In the end, I'll only be mixing with people who are doing the same thing, for whatever reason, so I'm not hurting anyone else.

Currently still going in to work every day, as whilst there are bits of my job that could be done from home, they wouldn't last more than a couple of weeks. I'm saving the actual work from home weeks until they're more needed, either by myself due to health concerns, or due to stricter rules from Government. Realistically, if I wasn't coming in to work, I could easily see myself being out of a job in 2 weeks, and there's no way on earth my finances can survive that.

I know some people won't agree with this, but [...] I'm still visiting my local restaurants and bars. I don't have a problem with that, so long as they're not crowded. It's not specific places that are a risk but crowds. Anywhere where you can keep a bit of distance from other people is as safe as any other place, and if you can keep a bit of money circulating in the economy then so much the better. I think people are going to have to learn to live like this for a while because this is going to drag on for two or three months at least. We'll have to get into the habit of going somewhere and if it looks a bit busy then coming back at a different time or going elsewhere. Would it be weird to go to a pub for a meal and take your own cutlery? It might have to become normal.

Currently working from home on an alternating pattern, back in the office next week with a reduced team. I live alone, so now being alone all day as well as in the evenings is starting to get frustrating! I'll be glad to see humans again on Monday. Feeling very glad that I have 400+ theatre performances in my collection (thank you internet) so I can least escape into those 😀

We’re retired so life goes on pretty much as usual for us. We’re just buying what we need when we need it and have just come back from a walk down to the village PO store for milk. The only problem I may face is getting my blood pressure meds - the surgery have passed all prescriptions over to our local Morrisons and their pharmacy was overwhelmed yesterday so said I’d go back on Monday. We’re also fortunate to be living in the countryside, surrounded by hills and fields so social distancing is pretty normal! However, I’m very aware of the very real difficulties faced by others, my own kids and hubbie’s elderly parents included. We live several hours drive from all of them. It’s a worry but just trying to keep in touch as best we can.

I've just walked round my village, frantically diving across roads/down side roads/into hedges in order to try to keep my distance from other people. None of them seemed to be making any effort to keep away from me or each other though, which I find strange since all apart from one person looked to be 60+ so higher risk.

So, how are the people new to home working finding it* after a few days?
I've been working from home for several years and I love it. I can't remember when I used to do the washing because these days I just do it whenever it needs doing. I never have to arrange to be home when I'm expecting a parcel because I can be home any day. And although it doesn't apply at the moment, I really appreciate not having to go out when it's raining or snowing unless I feel like going out.
* Let's just get the "I walked downstairs and there it was" joke over with right now.

In perfect timing, I was made redundant earlier in the month, and jobs in my speciality are had to find at the best of times! Little point in worrying, the 3 month mortgage holiday will be a blessing, and I will have to push my wife to work harder.. (Joking)

I'm a part of the Socially Distant Choir. We're an online choir. Each week, we pick a song from a stage musical and assign different parts to the members. We record ourselves singing those parts while the leader edits it all together.
This week, we had performed a cover of "For Now" from 'Avenue Q', with some slightly changed lyrics to reflect the current times. I'm quite happy with how it turned out. We even had comments from actors that were in major productions in the show, who told us how much they liked it.
If you're feeling down during this pandemic, click the link and let us reassure you.
