One word...Rhinoceros...
This sounds like such a horrendous idea it could very well be brilliant.

They need to include "In All The Right Places" - the theme from the film!

Fave seat booked for a Tuesday matinee mid-run, £12 from my PAYG subscription instead of £27.50, such a good deal.

Wow first Pretty Woman and now this. What era are we in? Aside from the tedium of yet another two films being adapted for stage, I would have thought resurrecting these particular ones would have been thrown out at the ideas stage. Both films were dodgy at the time they originally came out, but back then representing women in that fashion wasn’t something that troubled the entertainment industry very much, if at all. Thankfully in 2020 things have changed quite a bit. This is a shocking error of judgement on the part of whoever is producing these shows in my opinion. I wonder if London will receive PW with any more enthusiasm than Broadway did? It’ll be interesting to see.

Is she daughter of Cleo and Johnny? Indeed. You can find her on the CD's of Woods (Phoenix) and Merrily (Leicester Haymarket) She has recorded quite a few albums and my fave is Detour Ahead. Well worth checking out

I take your point Theatremonkey, but I think the examples you’ve given are all much greater works than either Pretty Woman or Indecent Proposal ( both of which I would personally file under the Hollywood pap list).
Also both are on TV regularly enough for people to check out the way attitudes have moved on since those films were made, not sure whether we need to have musical adaptations on stage to reinforce that.
I’ll be interesting to see how both shows are received here in the UK.

^Wonder if ‘Paint Your Wagon’ could be staged today without great controversy? Also scenes in ‘Carousel’,one of the numbers from the original ‘Holiday Inn’ and what about ‘The Jolson Story’ that helped to make Brian Conley an established stage star. Agree with theatremonkey that the list is endless.
Some of the tv ‘comedies’ from the past such as Love Thy Neighbour,Mind Your Language and Benny Hill were watched and loved by millions, but today would be totally abhorrent.

Whilst agreeing with the point made, can I add I'm still a little sad that I doubt I'll never again get the chance to see (major) productions of Pal Joey or Camelot...to name but too...
I think someone really smart might be able to rewrite some of these? Problematic I know, but if Bobbie can successfully change gender then there may be ways to reinvent and reveal some of the gold (songs mainly) that look like being lost.

Small reminder that if you spot a thread that needs to be actioned by mods please use the Report option rather than requesting it in the thread. No one gets into trouble for starting a duplicate thread so reporting It is fine. We can’t read every post in every thread so things can get missed. Thank you!

Well, they tried… but maybe they shouldn’t have! Just seemed so dated and irrelevant. Will be interested to know what other board members think… if anyone else bothers to go!

Saw this last night. It doesn't really work as a musical - the resetting of the story in a night club was just an easy way to bolt half of the songs on to the plot but few of them pushed the drama along and they felt like add ons. Having said that though, I enjoyed it and the time flew by, mainly due to the excellent cast and clever production. It was great to see Jacqui Dankworth, and she has some of the best songs which she performed immaculately - but she has little to do with the plot, being just the lead singer in the club.
The premise of the story didn't really feel that dated to me and I think it was dealt with more delicately than in the film. I actually think there's a decent musical buried somewhere in this but it needs major tweaking to find it.

If there is a modern version of 'Not Since Carrie' the book will be called 'Not Since Indecent Proposal'
All the leads have been fantastic in other shows, but not one of them can make this work.
I could write so much more about it, but none of it remotely good. I'll stick to the positives: There's a kitsch hostess trolley in the first half (but even that is all wrong for this)
Edit: I have never been embarressed for a performer before. Tonight i couldnt sink down into my seat enough. Not because of their performance, but because of the material they had to work with in Act 2.
