If this rumour ends up being not true, this thread's gonna be fun.

Oh the Danny La Rue clip is a bit grim, and bland - absolutely nothing imaginative and exciting going on there. Strange concept. Terrible staging.

If this rumour ends up being not true, this thread's gonna be fun. It can join the graveyard of dead Dolly threads which is probably up to at least four by now.

Yeah, it's worth saving enough money as though it's definitely going to be Bette, even if Carl Woodward is somehow miraculously correct in this rare instance and it ends up being Bernadette. If you're ready to drop £250 on a ticket that ends up retailing for £90, then that's a helluva lot of interval drinks you can buy yourself with the difference (from a nearby newsagent, obviously, it's only about half a dozen interval drinks if you're buying from a theatre bar).

.and for the subsequent tour the role will be shared by Paul O'Grady, Craig Revel Horwood, and Michael Ball. Yes of course - Danny La Rue famously did a London run as Dolly at the Prince of Wales Theatre in the early 80's. Famously???

He was a MASSIVE star at the time. His show Danny La Rue at the Palace (Palace Theatre) ran for 2 years, and the first man to play the role of Dolly in a major production - it was huge news! I don't think it's been played by a man since - although I may be wrong. Gender fluidity in roles may be commonplace now but back in 1982 it was unheard of!

Lee Roy Reams did it in Florida in 2015. That's the only other one I know of.

Bette Midler will do Tues, Thurs and Sat evening performances. Bernadette Peters will do Wed and Fri evening performances. Elaine Paige will do Monday evening and Sat matinee. Patti Lupone will do Wed matinee. Jane McDonald will be the alternate/understudy Well I do love a Dolly Mixture and that is certainly one!

Can't you just remove the link but keep the post? We now are missing the update that they claim they spoke to Bette's assistant and it's unlikely to be happening with her (though I personally wonder if this is a sales tactic to get people to buy things from the website you removed).

The guy signed up to the forum just to post that, and added a link to his bootleg website. You have to question the authenticity of his information.

I’m sorry to burst everyone’s bubble but Bette Midler was in London twice last year and not once was a meeting relating to a Dolly transfer mentioned to those who were “looking after” her. She could have been playing her cards close to her chest but it is unlikely that she forgot to mention something this big, especially if she was planning on returning to London for an extended period. I would be more than happy to discuss this privately but I just felt it was information that you all might find relevant.

Jesus, one tries to be nice, but there's always something.
I'm the one who talked to Bette’s assistant last week about her performing Dolly in the UK. I was told, something like ”most likely ”not” Now, big news like that, they are not going to tell me yes or no. So I'm just saying keep a healthy skepticism. She’s making 3 movies this year, so if she does do ”Dolly@ then that means she is working her ass off. I hope she does do it for you.?sShe was made for this role.
And no, my link that I gave was not Spam. I run this biggest Bette Midler fan page in the world. I've been doing it for 15 years. Bette liked it, so she gave me contact info for when I might need something. I've gotten to talk with her many times. So I'm not just some vagabond traipsing in here
Hope all works out for you all,
Don
I'll just out my fan sites name and no link: Bette Midler: Bootleg Betty

Hi Don.
I’m sure your post was appreciated by many including myself but people want this rumour to be true so badly, that anything that bursts that bubble won’t be welcome news in some quarters. I’m sure you’ve built up a thick skin running a fan forum, so please don’t take it to heart and keep posting. I’ve been lucky to see Bette twice in concert, she’s amazing.

Haha, I personally am not that fussed if the rumour is true or not. I wouldn't call myself a fan of either Bette or "Hello Dolly", and had the opportunity to see this in New York last year, but didn't. But all I'll say is that someone seems keen to promote their Bootleg Betty website.

The only fact here is that those of us who aren't lucky to have insider information are just getting more and more confused and frustrated by each new post that claims to know something (or rather, not know anything).
I appreciate scoops are nice, and it's probably fun to know something before the rest of the world (I wouldn't know), but this thread has become a prime example of why it's probably less hassle all round to wait until something has actually got to the stage of being almost ready to be announced before letting it out of the bag. Otherwise all we get is a load of false hope and excitement for what now looks to be nothing...
And someone new to the board shouldn't get offended about being queried or not trusted - you can surely understand that it's a lot easier to believe regular posters with a proven track record than someone who has seemingly signed up just to post in this thread and contradict what has already been said.

Mrbarnaby must know something factual involving Bette, London, & Hello Dolly to post it here AND for it to be allowed to stay on here by the mods.
The mods have, in the past, removed posts claiming shows were coming (even when they were actually coming!) because no "official" announcements had been made
The fact the mods haven't removed mrbarnaby's post OR this thread goes against their previous practice with others, making me think it must be true.
Unless they apply different moderations to different members?

I got a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend, who is Bette’s favourite Barista in a well known coffee chain and she told her she is all set to come over to the West End this year, but she will be taking over the role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera.
