I notice they played a very controversial song during the interval too! What was the song?

Why is that controversial? It’s a famous old song! It’s been all over the news the past few weeks, has radio stations banning it and has fierce social media discussion. The whole argument for banning it is taking the song and its lyrics out of their place and time, so frankly ridiculous (imagine how many musicals we’d ban if we thought that way). But I have female friends who feel incredibly strongly, one even threatened to defriend anyone who tried to offer a defence of the song, or any counterargument.

I thought it was ridiculous too until I actually read the lyrics and there are a few questionable lines in there that most people don't realise. but let's face it who really listens to every lyric. as usual people just go straight to banning everything instead of having a discussion looking at both sides and find a solution. it could easily be solved by a few lyric changes.
I do genuinely think the arts (in fact life in general) is heading towards a dangerous area where everything will become so bland for fear of offending anyone

This may be a silly question but all the signs outside the palladium state the turns of the show are 2:30pm and 7pm. I’m going at the weekend but the tickets say 7:30pm. Are there different start times depending on the day ?

Yes, there are. It varies by day. The time on your ticket will be correct. The sign may refer to today, press night, as normally it is 2.30 and 7.30 or 1 and 5 on Sundays. Perfect thank you

Saw this Tuesday afternoon and although I really enjoyed it I didn't think it was as good as last years. The costumes were very lavish for the ensemble and obviously Julian. The effects weren't quite as good and I didn't really think Dawn was as good as she could have been . She was too nice to be wicked. Charlie was great , yes very tight tights! All in all an enjoyable afternoon but having the same group cast in it doesn't really work year in year out.

I’d be interested in seeing this purely for Charlie Stemp & Dawn French- could anyone tell me how much of the show they’re actually in?

They are both on throughout the show.
Don't think you'll feel short-changed by their amount of performance time.

Booked one of the £20 standing points for the Saturday matinee. Really don’t mind standing at all, and it’s one way I can see this without spending too much. Haven’t seen the previous two Palladium pantos so really intrigued.

I’ve looked on the website but every date i’ve looked at doesn’t seem to have standing even as an option

You choose the seats on the map. May easily have sold out by now though. And the standing area is behind the Stalls at either side (not in the centre section). The view looked good as it is raised over the seats in front.

A lot of the pantomime is solo variety acts where the cast rotate. And a few larger scenes where they mix. I would Charlie is mostly on as part of the large group dances. Dawn has a few solo scenes and others interacting. She’s on a fair amount as the show is sold around her, but I’d say less than Paul or Julian.

The Telegraph, Guardian and Evening Standard were not exactly thrilled 3 stars from 2 one 4. All saying not family friendly. Do you really need to pay those prices to watch JC in those costumes and his routine, go see him in concert. I am not paying. Not even standing room. I think the third time was the charm, to make sure they change the cast if they do it next year. Of course if the money is the bottom line they may not care anyway. But it is a shame not to have a family panto or even the appearance of one, in London.

All definitely not family pantos in London. OH NO THEY ISN’T.

Well this is certainly spectacular and Dawn French is good value. But no way is this for children Its just a succession of variety acts interspersed with Jukian Clary's innuendos. A lovely tango from Vincente andFlavia. But too long and no noticeable story. Snow White is hardly in it. But a packed audience seemed to enjoy themselves.

Just seen a video of the curtain call, love that Charlie gets the final bow again, even though Danielle is the title character. We all love a bit of the Stemp. 😊

Ok... so - definitely seems like a step down from last year (this is four stars compared to 5 for Dick)... but is STILL an absolutely hilarious and spectacular pantomime that I would strongly suggest everyone considering booking to go for it!
Although it is the same cast, the material isn’t particularly that similar. I was expecting the full 12 Days of Christmas, Zerdin’s ‘Tracey’ mask and the child from the audience saying ‘I can see your lips move’ again - but actually the majority of it is fairly fresh! Or, at least done in a different way like Wilmot’s song and a dragon instead of a rat!
Assuming it’s Jack and the Beanstalk, can see Clary, Zerdin and Wilmot staying for next year (as long as they keep it relatively fresh) - with a decent part for the fairy; come on Jane, we know you want to do it! Would be nice to see a different dame as Jack’s mother as it’s a more significant part than Mrs Crumble (though when did plot ever matter to them!)
Ditch Havers though as it’s gettinng *really* thin now!

Few thoughts after seeing this tonight, contains some spoilers so skip if you don’t wanna know.
Having already seen Cinderella and Dick Whittington, this is definitely the poorest of the three but it still is a good night out.
As callum said the matierial is mostly new with one or two of Zerdins oldies still in there. I know plot isn’t a massive deal when it comes to the palladium panto but the seem to have pretty much forgotten about plot here and instead give us a variety show. Regarding special effects apart from the front cloth flying out into the audience and up into the roof it’s everything we have seen before. Nigel flies (same way as Hannah Waddingham did when she played the witch in wizard of Oz) a sligh flies (Same as the carriage in Cinderella) and there is a giant dragon (same as rat from last year). This year there is a lot of cloths and not a lot of actual physical set. Julian is as Julian always is and Dawn French is very funny but an awful baddie. She would have been much better in a different “fairy type” role, I mean they actually make her a fairy in the end! The role is very much played for laughs and there is no villain or evil to her. Snow White we don’t really see, she pops in every now and then, same with the dwarfs and as for Vincent and Flavia well they have 8 minutes stage time max (they are playing ghosts so kinda hard to work in any more stage time)
Overall it was a good night out, standouts being Julian and Dawn. Wish we had seen more of Charlie. Think they got a bit lazy this year hopefully next year will be back to standard as previous two years and hopefully they drop the nigel joke, it’s gone past being funny now.
