I'm going to switch over to the tennis once the Grand Prix is finished. Also following the Tour de France online so it's a very lazy sports-viewing day before a trip to the Proms tonight I've been hooked on the Tour de France, apart from too many adverts the ITV4 coverage has been excellent and I think I'm in love with David Miller ! I'm glued to this year's Tour de France too. I don't usually watch cycling (living near Cambridge, I see far too many cyclists on a daily basis!) but having started it's compulsive. I'm finding it incredibly stressful though: when Froome lost the yellow jersey last week I started crying! On the driving discussions, I'm a fairly bad driver & don't drive much but to my bafflement I passed my test first time. I think it was because I'm good at following instructions exactly. However I'm not good when situations differ from the textbook examples & hence am not good at driving in general.

Just given a lesson to a pupil name John Dykes follow by one for Katie Hawes. The juxtaposition of this gives me much pleasure because I can now say I've had a session with the dykes followed by the whores (hawes)!

Does anyone know how to stop Twitter showing you loads of tweets favourited by people who you follow on your timeline? It started doing it a few weeks ago & it's driving me mad.

One of those silly days at work where we did lots and then we ignored what we'd done and rushed like crazy to do all the things we'd done all over again. Very silly!

Does anyone know how to stop Twitter showing you loads of tweets favourited by people who you follow on your timeline? It started doing it a few weeks ago & it's driving me mad. I asked a similar q a while back but didn't find an answer and Twitter Support didn't even reply. The issue I had was seeing loads of tweets people I followed had "liked" so maybe that's the same thing? Plus I now see their conversations with others (e.g. about football or politics, when I'm following them for their theatre content) I neither follow nor would choose to, so I have to endure those or unfollow a few of the most garrulous - and have done. Would also love to know how to stop some people endlessly re-tweeting the same old c**p without unfollowing. I still want to see their new tweets but not ancient history from their blasted blogs which they keep recycling. I'd ask them by DM but it'd seem rude. Saying "I don't like this tweet" umpteen times has made zero difference.

Well yesterdays reorganisation announcement at work was basically that my relatively small area was being absorbed into a much larger department ( that we have no links with ! ) but " it's not about cost cutting ", Hm, we'll see !

A very relaxing touristy day and night. On holiday at the moment in the north of Spain and decided to investigate Astorga, one of the smaller cities in the province of León.
Plenty of places to visit including the cathedral and the Gaudí palace. Nice pedestrian areas with lots of outdoor cafes.
We spent the night at a small hotel/hostal called "El Descanso de Wendy" (Wendy's resting place). Enormous room and all very tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Very friendly staff too.
Anyway I was intrigued by the name of the place so decided to ask the receptionist how it came about.
Apparently the owner bought the building some time ago and had it gutted and the interior was rebuilt as a hostal. The family had a cat called Wendy and at the start of the remodelling the cat died. The family decided to bury the cat in the foundations; hence the name Wendy's resting place. I thought it was a cute story so I decided to share it with you all.

They should tell people that Wendy's ghost still haunts the premises at full moon...

I got to work to find the plant I 'inherited' on my desk had turned utterly rancid. Think fish tank that's never been cleaned. Think something that died in the sewer a month ago. I touched it to get to something behind and clearly unleashed something. Poor woman from HR nearly threw up when I tried to dispose of it.
I then made an excellent typo on twitter and called it a 'Racist' plant. Damn those plant supremacists.

Saying "I don't like this tweet" umpteen times has made zero difference. There's an option to Turn off Retweets (which I often use for venues who RT every single tweet about their production) - but I think you mean people who tweet over and over again about the same blog post, etc., rather than just RTing their original tweet, so it won't help unfortunately

Yes, that's the issue that I mean. Ever since Brexit I've been trying to ignore loads of tweets & RTs from people I follow who have different political views to mine & now I'm also getting polotical tweets that they've liked. I just want to read Twitter for theatre & opera!

The only real answer to the twitter issues is to block key terms as well as people. For example, if there's an academic convention loads of my followers are going to but I don't want to see I have to block key words from it for the interim in order to not see every goddamn tweet on Medieval Cookery or whatever. Same with politics many people block the name of the American president for example, to filter what they see.
It's not a perfect solution but it will filter out some of the added noise the liking thing does.

I've tried blocking words but it didn't seem to help an awful lot. Maybe I should try to come up with more words. It's annoying that I can't block our current Prime Minister's surname but that would exclude any awful lot of tweets where someone is just being a bit equivocal! May vs may.
ETA: I've found all my blocked words had expired so re-blocked them all!

A baby appeared in my office. We all know how I feel about such things.
Luckily the Mum seemed more than happy with a quick hello and moving on.

"Here chew on this plant"

Well the evening was fab, I had a Deep Blue Sea marathon first up was the Vivien Leigh version followed by the more recent Rachel Weisz version the latter has better production values but for me the original version wins as VL is a considerable actress. Those and a bottle of Italian red wine make one happy bunny.

Well today started rather wetter than I was expecting... which is what happens when you dress for the London forecast before you open the Warwickshire curtains. So, now drying out on the train where I've just very much enjoyed (and completely agreed with) a rather fine Bat v Willows analysis from our very own Monkey. Loving your work TM

Stressed today. Trying to locate an important parcel. Was in all day yesterday. Heard the door. By the time i got there (around 20 seconds) they had managed to drop the sorry we missed you card and scarpered. Rearranged delivery for today only to find having scarpered they had managed to leave it with the flat upstairs. Thus far since yesterday evening have not been able to get hold of them

Just packing for a short visit tomorrow to Budapest. I'm really looking forward to it except the temperature is currently 34 degrees and I'm not great in hot weather. Still, ''tis my own fault, I read this was their hottest month before booking. It's just difficult for me work-wise in the cooler months.

I have just watched 'Sarah Payne: A Mother's Story' and am in bits. Her brothers, who were playing with Sarah at the time of her abduction, have spoken for the first time and it is heartbreaking to hear their feelings of guilt. They were eleven and twelve.
Sad. So sad.

Finally located the missing 36 pint box of cider Ok. I'll ask it then. How on earth can you lose a 36 pint box of cider? Do you live in a castle?
