I don’t believe this at all sorry.
A 6 month run won’t afford them to build a proper set, and a ‘big star’ wouldn’t do this as a glorified concert production.

I look forward to all the other new revivals based on a boozy conversation after the Coronation concert. It could be worse. It could be Katy Perry with Lionel playing Max.

Where is all the dislike for Nicole Scherzinger coming from?
I didn't see her in Cats, but her "Memory" seemed decent enough for me and she's more of a singer than Glenn Close was.
My only quibble would be that she looks too young and beautiful for Norma, but if it's Jamie Lloyd, he'll probably do some modern dress interpretation where Norma might well appear as the standard botoxed overly made up celebrity of today's age. After that absolute nadir that was the wooden box Seagull, it could only get better and it might even be fun to see a completely mad version of Sunset Boulevard.

I like Nicole (don’t all hate me) and loved her in Cats - Memory was flawless and got a standing ovation. However I do think she’s too young to play Norma - especially as whilst she’s actually in her mid-40s her whole look and image is younger.
Is Nicole confirmed though or is this still a rumour?

I struggle to consider CZJ as a “huge star”. She was last spotted selling towels on QVC. She still has huge celebrity cachet, trust me.

I'd argue where is all the love coming from. Norma is one of the top acting roles in musical theatre, and Nicole is completely unproven as an actress. Especially for such a heavy role. I'd argue the acting is more important than the singing (although ideally you'd have both). Plus walking out and singing one song at a concert or nightly (in cats) is very different to 8 shows a week in a taxing role. And like others have said, she looks young. 40s isn't what it was when the movie of sunset was made so casting slightly old makes a bit more sense these days. Most untrained and unproven pop singers don't get much love on theatre boards yet for some reason Nicole and Lady Gaga seem to get free passes despite lack of theatre experience. Another name I'd be curious to see is Beverly Knight.

CZJ would be fabulous.
I will certainly attend Nicole, but I have zero interest in anything Jamie Lloyd related I'll be honest.

If it's really Nicole in no way would I consider her a "huge star". She's not on the same level as CZJ or Blanchett or even Waddingham and Williams imo.

Nicole feels like someone her people keep trying to make happen, but never really does. Mainly seems known these days for silly tiktoks with her BF and being permanently on holiday. But I think she has bigger name recognition than Hannah Waddingham or Vanessa Williams to the broader general public

I remember thinking Nicole would have been perfect for “Moulin Rouge” but would seem just such an odd pick for Norma. But I really do like her a lot so as odd as it seems, I’d still be there.

What to make of all this. It all sounds like one incoherent "rumour cauldron"!
No, I don't think Nicole reads right for the part - much as I love her.
I would love to see Jamie Lloyd direct it. And no, it doesn't seem a long enough of a gap between the various presentations of it in the past few years. It feels too soon. So if they're going to do it again, it has to be something extra special in terms of casting.

But I think she has bigger name recognition than Hannah Waddingham or Vanessa Williams to the broader general public La Waddingham is still not big/a household name or a "bums on seats". People might start to recognise her face more, particularly after "Eurovish" but Ted Lasso is not a mainstream show in this country either.

Norma needs an bloody good actress who can sing, rather than a bloody good singer who can act, with the sort of stage presence that permeates every corner of the auditorium.

I'll believe this when I see something concrete. We seem to get loads of amazing rumours on here that have no foundation or come to nothing. However I'll be pleased if I'm wrong as I love this musical and if its CZJ I'm first in line to book.

CZJ has also developed a certain level of eccentricity in recent years (which we LOVE!!), and the fact she stepped back from acting until very recently (for "Wednesday") but had all but given up her successful film career of the 90's and early 2000's (I assume due to her bipolar disorder) does somewhat lean into the elusive/reclusive qualities of Norma herself.
She would be a wonderful fit in every respect.

Is Sunset a limited run or is planned to be open ended? At least 5 months is what I'm hearing though if it's successful then it could see an extension. 42ndBlvd seems very sure of this and I have also heard it from another friend so I am choosing to believe the rumor for now lol. 42ndBlvd - is the source of this rumor quote credible?
