it's a fair point...I've had to re-live the re-mix more times than I wish to think about in the name of research. When I close my eyes I still see that glaring white set and hear the girl from the Sugababes murdering 'Out Tonight' *shudder* And that must be when, in the background, "What I did for love" starts to play... because only the most genuine passion for the topic of your research can justify re-living the re-mix several times! I have to confess I'd be curious to read your thesis...

Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hair, Catch me if you can, Hands on a hardbody, On the town) also recently recorded a concert at 54 Below, and it's a very enjoyable one. Great vocals, with a nice mix of genres and plenty of fun anectodes thrown in for good measure. And a rather memorable, gospel infused song about fried chicken...

As i said..... the Rentheads didnt like it Well... personally I would have been very happy with some re-imagination and fresh ideas being thrown in. Unfortunately it is in my nature to hope for good ideas, though!

It wasn't just about different orchestrations... there were some arguable changes to the script and, erm... interesting staging choices, which I always thought were the results of conversations among the creative team of this kind:
- Oh look, here's our Mark and Mimi, we will say they both moved to New York from London! - Wait, but she is supposed to sing about Spanish babies and her mum talks to her in Spanish with a South American accent...? - So what, London is so cosmopolitan! Let's be creative... let's remix things! - And, erm... why is Mark wearing Abercrombie clothes, isn't he meant to be a bit geeky looking? Whoa, and the tank top during 'Tango, Maureen'? Is he now going full-opera on the high notes of 'La vie Boheme', isn't this supposed to be a rock musical? - Come on, this is so cross-over! People will love it!! And he's got muscles, we need to show them off. - I see. Wait, why is Angel coming on stage carrying a pink, very cheap looking, plastic Christmas tree? - It was on offer at ASDA... - And that thing he's wearing... is it white leather? - Well, all white, like an angel... - Right... ok, everything is fine then. Absolutely fine!

I have to say I wasn't the biggest fan of some of Ryan Murphy's directorial choices for the HBO adaptation, and while I have wholeheartedly admired Mark Ruffalo's work in other circumstances I didn't fully warm up to his portrayal of Ned. Having said that... yes, please, let's have a revival of the play!
Like emicardiff said, we are indeed getting to revisit a lot of material from that time and dealing with certain common topics, and I think it would be very interesting to see how it would impact audience members from different generations.
