I'm fed up with the depressing tone and lack of optimism on this board. There is no point in even asking the question as four months is an eternity in the present circumstances where everything is changing by the day. Life is depressing enough as it is, can't we just hope for the best rather than focusing on the worst case scenario? I can't agree I'm afraid. This is a discussion board and talking about the very real possibility of this not going ahead is part and parcel of it. That said I do wonder if they'll go ahead with a socially distanced, masked up audience instead of postponing again? I would have thought this was the obvious solution, however weren’t all the seats already sold as a non socially distanced audience? Meaning that some ticket-holders will be told that their seat has been removed from the auditorium. Perhaps there is an easier solution though.

This feels like an unnecessarily abrasive reply to a very fair question. I'm fed up with the depressing tone and lack of optimism on this board. There is no point in even asking the question as four months is an eternity in the present circumstances where everything is changing by the day. Life is depressing enough as it is, can't we just hope for the best rather than focusing on the worst case scenario? Sorry you feel this way posterj. I agree with you that I do hope that this show goes ahead, but I don’t agree with you that we shouldn’t discuss the fairly-sized possibility that it doesn’t. Unfortunately restrictions are not lifted at the same rate as which they’re imposed. A limited-run show of this size postponing for a third time would be the canary in the coal mine and pretty big news - both for everybody involved but for ticket holders too.

Realistically for this to go ahead they’d have to start rehearsals in about four months. Is this likely to be permitted? And moreover will they be able to play to a non-socially distanced house? The clock is ticking...

Makes perfect sense - especially when he says that he will need 4-5 months to get a production up and running again, from the time when he gets the go ahead to re-open.
So for example even if he were to reopen in December, he would need social distancing to be relaxed by July/August - which obviously isn’t going to happen.

I can’t believe this name hasn’t been suggested yet - I can just picture her at the top of the staircase with her scarlett head piece and feather boa...

Enjoyed it a lot - surprised there was no Gypsy or West Side Story and heavy on Into the Woods & SITPWG.
Ladies Who Lunch with that gorgeous trio was the highlight!

Agree with all of your comments Kevin. The only experience of the show I've had was seeing Bette do it on Broadway - it seemed to me that the role is purposefully very thin, ready for a huge personality to bring it to life on stage. Almost just shy of being a character in a pantomime.
For that reason, if Imelda can no longer commit to the whole run, I quite like the idea of a fairly big star each coming in to do a 3-4 week run?

Yes I agree. But who are the UK equivalents to the legendary multi-talented singers/actresses/entertainers like Midler, Streisand, Cher, Dolly, Liza etc?

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf - Exceptional. I mean with that cast would it be anything but. Laurie Metcalf I saw in Hilary & Clinton last year and whilst that play was terrible, she was great. This however is a different story altogether - a fantastic play and wow she’s having fun with it. Wouldn’t be surprised to see her pick up another Tony. Rupert Everett is great opposite, especially in the third act. Tovey & Ferran also great here, especially Ferran who is just so so funny. Top notch! Wow wow what brilliant comments Mark - I am hoping to make a trip stateside to see this one myself. I am unsure about the viability of a transfer; I thought it was possible because of the 75% British cast - however the relatively recent run for the Staunton/Hill production and the unlikelihood of Metcalf coming with it because of her sitcom schedule (she’s the main attraction for me), are making me just want to bite the bullet and head over!

So who are the people who can both afford to pay more and are willing to do so and are there enough of them to sustain the new pricing model long-term? NT would think it’s the younger student audience who stay in London even after they’ve used Entry Pass for a few years, become affluent young professionals and then start acquiring a bit of dosh in their mid-late twenties. Whether this is true or not I have no idea...!

I noticed they used the same sight joke in both London and Birmingham this year. Near the start of the show, they have someone walk around the outside of the Stalls, along the front row, then out along the other outer aisle. Then there's a joke on stage about someone arriving late and then needing the toilet. In London, it was Christopher Howell. Didn't recognise the person in Birmingham, but it was probably the standby. Has that joke been doing the rounds at all the other QDOS pantomimes? Happened at my performance of the Palladium as well!

A great show this year - and I know we say this every year, but probably a good time for some of the cast to go out on a high (Zerdin, Havers, Wilmot...), try a different town and give someone else a go at the Palladium.
Get Paul back in drag and get a big female star to go alongside Paul and Julian... get Sharon Osbourne over from Nativity or bring back Dawn French? Or maybe Joan Collins?

Thanks for your review. Interesting that from all of the reactions I’ve seen, not many people are mentioning O’Grady. Is it just the same old form him?

Has there ever been any chat about these pantos being filmed? Surely Qdos could sign some deal with ITV where each Panto is recorded and then shown the following year... I used to love watching the classic pantos on repeat on ITV2!

Could only listen to 4 minutes of that review.
Alex was being very bitter and personal towards lots of the people working behind the scenes at Qdos. They haven’t made a show that caters solely to the ‘Number 1 West End reviewer in the UK’... yawn!
Didn’t know he was a such a pearl clutcher. What’s wrong with ‘I usually like it, but this year it’s a bit too rude for me, it will probably still do well with the 90% adult audience it attracts’ - instead of aggrandising the end of panto?!

Had a fabulous time - another Annie Baker play with long awkward silences, allusions to the supernatural, and several moments treading a massive tightrope between black humour and being horrified. From my seat in the circle I could see a lot of the audience: some were in fits of laughter, others fairly shocked, and a handful looking bored out of their minds. A lady in the foyer afterwards said it was ‘completely pathetic’!
Personally - I really enjoyed myself, with a stand-out performance from Conleth Hill (wouldn’t he make an excellent Tr*mp?!), and the two female actors.

Did anyone from here manage to nab tickets for The Irishman? I was in Paris over the weekend so I didn’t even try to book tickets for it but good to see that Al Pacino decided to attend the screening with Bob and Marty- this is probably the film I’m looking forward to seeing the most between now and Christmas (and Episode IX) Saw it Sunday night with the three of them in attendance - absolutely outstanding and totally brilliant. The final hour of the film is a masterclass in filmmaking from everyone involved. De Niro, Pacino and particularly Joe Pesci are phenomenal.

I forgot to mention one weird thing when we were waiting to get into the movie at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. Mr Foxa had a small unopened bottle of red wine in his bag and at the bag check they made him open it and take a sip from it to prove it wasn't acid. So that was new. Yep I had the same with my coffee - I could’ve still scalded someone with it though!!

Has anyone booked a ticket for the surprise film before? Never done it myself but I booked for this year. Although the film starts very late, what's up with that ? how does it work? nobody knows what the film is until you are inside ? Yes - head of the festival will do a mini-intro and then the film will just start. Then, at the end, often a Q&A with director/actors. Two years ago it was LADY BIRD with Greta Gerwig and Saoirse Ronan at the Q&A, and then last year GREEN BOOK with Peter Farrelly, Nick Vallelonga, Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali. Don’t know the reasons for it always beibg so late - last year we didn’t get out until after midnight, but that was a Friday so we still had night tube. Wednesday is an odd choice this year.

How quickly do things sell out? I've never been to a film festival before but I'd love to catch The Lighthouse since it's probably my most anticipated film of the year and it's on the weekend before my birthday and then I could couple that with The Last Black Man in San Francisco and maybe catch Faith, Hope and Charity at the Dorfman all in one weekend. I just kind of came up with this plan right now and I'm not sure whether I want to go through with booking as soon as tomorrow and then regret it later so I'd love to know whether I can think on it for a bit or whether I'll miss my chance to get a ticket. You’ll probably miss your chance for booking The Lighthouse and LBMISF if you don’t book today. More tickets (industry returns etc) are released in a couple of weeks though.

Watched MARVIN’S ROOM a few weeks ago - starring Verdon in one of her final roles. It was the first time I’d actually seen the real Gwen on screen - she reminded me so much of Williams’ portrayal of her, obviously showing what a good job Williams did
Interestingly, in the film, she’s made out to be an extremely doddery and unglamorous old lady - even though Gwen was only 70 at the time, the same age that Meryl Streep is now!

Like with adding NT Membership presale to your basket to look at seats for shows not yet on general sale, is there a way for non-members to have a look at seating availability prior to public booking opening?

Think surprise film is How to Build a Girl as it’s normally a crowdpleaser and frankly bizarre that this film isn’t in the programme.
Apart from that, looking forward to aforementioned Knives Out and The Irishman, plus Marriage Story, The Report, The Two Popes and Ordinary Love.
