Cannot remember last time I used TKT’s.
I used to use the all the time, but other ways of getting cheap tickets. Also a long queue and they had windoepws closed, so poor customer service, despite paying a hefty handling fee.

Prince Edward Theatre is prime West End real estate and is bang in the middle of Wendy, it houses some of the best shows. It is a favourite of some posters on here, including me, as it is quite intimate and has good sight lines.
What should it be renamed to?

I agree on both points.
Burger and chips, mainly consisting of bread and potato, for the chips, which are easy to fry in 4 minutes. So looks like the bean counters have been at work, or should I say I wish they had!!!
Both of the above are high in carbohydrates, so awful choices if you are diabetic. Also being a non meat eater, the old kitchen had great non meat dishes and remember on another thread raving about there Fea and Watermelon salad.

See that the Kitchen in the National, where I was able to get a good wholesome meal for a reasonable price, is now gone and been turned into some gaudy burger joint, it is hideous, knife and forks and plates now gone, with food served on paper on a tray. Missed a trick though, with a road outside they could have turned the National into a drive-thru. (Kidding)
They have moved coffee and cakes by the disabled toilet and if you want a cup of tea, like I used to enjoy with my meal, costs £3.30.
Bitterly disappointed at both these backward initiatives.

The thing with Henry VI trilogy is and I haven’t seen it, it doesn’t have great quotes or a great monologue as the other history plays have.

I am watching, however maybe a sign of my old age, I only know 2 ‘celebs’ - Kate Galloway and I adore wrighty he truly wear his heart on sleeve, although this might go against him. Be interesting when they drop the 2 additional celebs in, whether I will know them, we see!!! Maybe getting too old. Looked back at previous years and I generally know about 5/6, this year I only know about 2 as pointed out above, if it is celebrity culture, soaps or Made in Chelsea and the such that is me done. Wouldn’t it be great if they had proper celebrities on, that people really did know, such as; Elaine Paige, Michael Ball, Michael Xavier, Kerry Ellis, Matt Henry, Jenna Russell or Imedia Staunton etc However Ant and Dec are like a big breathe of stale air and there jokes are becoming annoying and the whole format is, it has been going 17 years now, since Tony Blackburn won it. Last year was great. Maybe I need to get into it more. However 90 minutes a night is too much too invest. These celebs are in, because they’re frustrated not being able to get a pantomime gig somewhere. Only kidding.

What does stand out and is great to see, there is no definite answer, as there is a great array of answers from Hamlet to Winter’s Tale, it certainly presents a broad church of opinion.
Even there is no preference for tragedies, histories or comedies, so has been very illuminating.
Agree with JB and keep them to the plays themselves, maybe we can do productions later, that would be fun.

The plays the thing that captures the conscious of the theatregoers, sure that is wrong though and it should read the conscious of the theatreboard posters.
This thread is driven by Romeo and Juliet at the National, with posters keen or not so keen on it.
So wondering what is your favourite Shakespeare, one would be hard, to give people a bit of wriggle room thought do a top 3.
Mine are;
Othello Julius Caesar Henry V

the historical Richard was not massively affected by his scoliosis - being very able in battle - there is not much risk of a major casting backlash (and if there is, it will be from people who are intent on being outraged rather than understanding what is really important) The play's character isn't the historical version though, and I do think there is strong feeling now that 'cripping up' is becoming as unacceptable as 'blacking up', given that there are a lot of actors with disabilities who face discrimination in the industry (I know a writer who wasn't even able to see the play they'd written because the theatre wasn't physically accessible! Many theatres, esp. studio theatres and festivals, where young actors, writers, directors get started don't have access). The Donmar's Teenage Dick has cast actors with disabilities. Yes, I don't want a scenario where actors are only allowed to play what they are, e.g. a straight actor isn't allowed to play gay and vice versa, but the aim and hope is to have the disability equivalent of colourblind casting, which is now the norm in theatre. Until that's achieved though, I think giving one of the most famous disabled roles to a non-disabled actor would be controversial. I don’t disagree and feel often exasperated when seeing a play and an artist who is in a wheelchair, then at the end stand up to take a bow. But Richard III can be played by an able bodied actor. Ok to sum up, people are complaining that Norris has programmed Romeo and Juliet, and people are also complaining that he’s not programming enough Shakespeare This would be more, complained on the last artistic announcement that it was all new plays and no revivals including the Bard. However Romeo and Juliet is a blatant cash in as it is a popular piece, as it is on the GCSE curriculum and I am with Simon it is my least favourite of the tragedies. This is a plaque of both my houses, which I find Romo and Juliet to be too wet.

They’re doing Romeo and Juliet, not one of my favourite Shakespeare.
Surprised they’re not doing Richard III considering they haven’t done it since 1992. Also a favourite for Shakespeare lovers.

I have been to the Imperial, several times, but haven’t seen Ain’t To Proud, as I hedged my bets it would come over, as it seems to be the New Jersey Boys..
As I have said and you have agreed with London has a chronic shortage of medium sized houses, but I have gone on to say that London can do with a couple more theatres with 1500 seats.
I wonder how many shows London has missed out, due to no theatre being available?

Agree with that, but having not seen the show cannot comment about size, although sadly shows seem to want smaller theatres now.
Ain’t To Proud is definitely coming over.

No I don’t think it is enough said.
Obviously people who sell/buy a poppy are coming from a place of goodness.
However my bother is that members of the armed services are civil servants and some have unfortunately suffered the most appalling injuries and some of these are life changing injuries. So I find it absolutely appalling and disgraceful that these great people come back from ultimately protecting us in war, they are simply turned aside to charity, when society is done with them.
Why don’t the politicians that decide to send them to the dogs of war, simply care for these great people when they come back? They deserve it.

Who? Big boots to fill, but no one can emulate Michael so don’t bother trying, so best if Arifa be her own person, with my best wishes. I, for one, am glad to see the back of Billington. I find his writing one sided and very left leaning, politically and I just dont think politics needs to come in reviews as much as he brings it in. The whole theatre criticism scene is in a huge period of change. Out with the old, in with the new. Who would you say is a good reviewer?

My guess is that the header tank had a slow leak, and nobody realised. A bit of plasterboard saturated and gave way. Horrible, but one of those random things that do happen. That's been my thought; not indicative of the state of West End theaters or of climate change but a normal tank leak. There was talk of a flooded floor earlier.
Thinking back to the incident we had in the mansion flat, we did wonder if it was coincidence the collapse happened in a room that didn't originally have a fireplace, but where central heating had been installed at some point - fairly sudden changes in temperature, albeit taking a decade or two.
Given that a similar incident happened, you would have thought the in-house maintenance team would have picked this up, in their corrective maintenance programme. They also charge an hefty restoration fee, to assist with the up keep.

He is certainly a one of a kind critic and knows his onions and Shakespeare with his wealth of wisdom. A sad day he has pulled up sticks.
However he is of a great age and would be also great to give fresh blood a chance, they are big shoes to fill. Henry Hitchens must be wetting his lips.

I see Farage has given up the ghost before the whole nonsense kicks off in favour of sniping on the side. Shame in a way because I had hoped his raving looney party would have split the tory vote. Perhaps it will still fingers crossed! Yeap god forbid he would want to work in Parliament the bastion of British politics. When this is out of the way, he be off to the right wing talking tour in the US.

Sad hearing the news of the original Aspects of Love star Ann Crumb has passed on after a short illness.
My first West End show.
