I was disappointed I couldn’t catch any obvious lifts from his previous stuff but it did remind me of Freddie Mercury’s Man Made Paradise. 56 seconds into this:

I loved it. 5 stars from me. And yes, it’s not a musical.

Loving all the conspiracy theories and Poll Gate The fact the 5 star members happen to be called The Lord and Andy I’m sure if admin do a full deep investigation they’ll find the others ‘responsible are called SarahB, Mr Mistopheles and Diamond Thyme 🤔😉 I don’t know how you managed to get the names of all my friends but I trust them to give completely fair ratings just like I did. Lots of love, Andy Webs

If you say the show is far from perfect, needs work and it lacks an orchestra then it can’t be a perfect five stars rating then can it? Five stars means it can’t get any better and you say it can! So really your five is a four? I need a drink. Yes, I get your point and as I said in my post I understand other people saying my opinions warrant a 4 star or less rating. Star ratings are subjective and for me personally I don’t think five stars is reserved for perfect shows. I don’t think those exist; there are always going to be things that could be improved. To me it’s about how much the flaws affect your enjoyment of the show. With only five different ratings to choose from you’re going to have a range of quality within each star rating so I’m not saying it’s as good as [insert your favourite five star shows here] but right now it’s the show whose songs I can’t get out of my head and can’t wait to see again.

I’m one of the suspicious “new members” that gave it 5 stars. As has been well covered in this thread, the show is far from perfect, the story needs work in parts, the lack of orchestra is very disappointing, and so on. But I enjoyed it throughout, there were some great performances, every big song and every joke landed with the audience when I was there, and as soon as it finished I was ready to go back and see it again. I’d understand people with the exact same opinions as me knocking off stars for its flaws but for me it’s a case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. I will be going back so I’ll be interested to see if it stands up to a rewatch or if the flaws stick out more and I end up revising my rating.
I’ve been listening to the cast recording since it came out and there are some bits in it I’m glad weren’t in the show. Although having said that, the “knob” line seems weird on the recording but at the theatre it got a big laugh. I think that particular line works well to ground the characters as regular friends in a fairytale world. So maybe some other things that stick out on the recording would’ve made more sense on stage, and if you haven’t seen it maybe things you don’t like the sound of will make more sense when you do see it.

Can anyone advise about the "timed" entry? Emails from LW state there is a timed entry slot but on the confirmation email it simply states 18:45 to be seated for 19:00. Do we really have to sit for a full 30 minutes pre-show? I went last night and there was a single queue outside and no one checked entry times. I assume people were still arriving right up until 19:30 like normal. I imagine it’s to try to space out arrivals due to Covid but doesn’t actually change your experience getting into the theatre in any way. At the interval they did ask us not to stand around and to go back to our seats instead, so they possibly asked the same of people before the show. So in that sense, yes, maybe you do need to sit for a full 30 minutes pre-show if you’ve arrived early and haven’t found yourself a spot in the bar area or somewhere out of the way.

If someone gets a chance and can remember, could a song list be posted? I’ve tried my best but there were far too many songs to remember so the order is mostly random. {Spoiler - click to view} Superstar Joseph’s Coat Close Every Door Any Dream Will Do Buenos Aires Another Suitcase In Another Hall Don’t Cry For Me Argentina Variations Starlight Express Overture As if You Never Said Goodybe Sunset Boulevard By Jeeves Til I hear You Sing Tell Me on A Sunday Take That Look Off Your Face Love Never Dies Stick it to the Man Amigos Para Siempre Pie Jesu I Don’t Know How to Love Him Gethsemane High Flying Adored Cats Overture The Rum Tum Tugger Skimbleshanks The Railway Cat Mr Mistofelees Memory Unexpected Song Love Changes Everything No Matter What The Phantom of the Opera All I Ask of You Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again Music of the Night
Plus the original comedy songs and ALW playing something from Cinderella.

I saw this tonight and actually thought it was really good. The lead (Wade McCollum) was excellent and has a great voice. There were mostly strong performances from the rest of the cast as well.
I didn’t know what to expect going in so it took me a short while to settle into the level of humour and strangeness of the story. I can imagine some people just wouldn’t connect with it and a few people around me did leave at the interval.
It was very funny in parts, though the odd bit did fall flat, and the emotional bits worked for me.
All seats are £15 for the previews and I think it’s definitely worth seeing at that price.

Thanks for those extra details. The nightclub song was included so sounds like there weren't any other major changes. It certainly didn't ever feel like anything was going on while I was there.

Saw this today at the matinee. I'd just repeat what tmesis said. It was overall very fun. We'd booked normal seats but we were asked to sit in the picnic seats, I think because the people still to find a seat would've struggled sitting on the floor. The picnic seats added to the fun, avoiding the odd high kick and having actors share the seats with us a couple of times. I have a bit of a mystery I'm hoping someone can help solve. Before the start we were told the actress who plays the aunt was indisposed and so we'd be having someone else. The aunt showed up near the start during a song with Tim's parents telling him to find something to do. Don't think we saw her again after that but thought nothing of it. Now I've been looking at the Union theatre's website and found a production photo showing a woman on the phone in a beauty salon. That wasn't in the show I saw today. A bit of research says it was Jane's mother. Reviews mention a duet near the end with Tim and Jane's mothers, We Don't Understand Our Children. For me today it was a solo by Tim's mother. I have no recollection of seeing Jane's mother at any point in the show. I've found an article saying the aunt and Jane's mother are played by the same person in this production so it seems like they cut the mother's part instead of having the stand in play her. Or is it just a coincidence and I didn't see anything different to what others have seen recently? It hasn't affected my enjoyment at all, I'm just curious if I did see a slightly cut down show and if so what other changes there might have been.
