Phew! 3rd attempt got me a shiny row B ticket. Happy Laineee 😊
Wouldn’t normally get so stressed about tickets, but Hiddleston has to go and pick this play - Vivien Merchant (Pinter’s first wife) was my grandfather’s cousin, so it’s technically a play about a member of my family 😂

My first trip to the US just happened to coincide with the car chase/arrest etc, and it was all everyone we met wanted to talk about. Pretty much everyone was stunned when we told them that OJ's fame hadn't made it to Scotland and we had no idea who they were talking about!
And another vote for this documentary being well worth the watch - an incredible and comprehensive view of the whole saga in the wider context of race relations in the US.

There really is no excuse for it - no matter how well known the show there will always be someone seeing it for the first time. It was my first time seeing Virginia Woolf and their inconsiderate conversation had a massive impact on my experience of the final act.

Big shout out to the loud Americans in the row in front of me, currently loudly spoilering Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf during the interval... 😡

The fact that you are all raving about this gives me a serious dilemma - been instructed to accompany my mum and aunts (all 70 somethings) on a theatre trip to London, and the choice is this or An American In Paris. No idea which to go for now.

Some crackers at Rent in Edinburgh tonight... first up were a group in the row in front of me. 20 minutes in, out comes a phone so that Snapchats can be be viewed and sent. Then pictures had to be taken during Out Tonight, before one of them then loudly gets up and clatters past her friends to go to the toilet. Then another from the same group thinks it's appropriate to wave her arms in the air and sing along whenever she recognised one of the songs. Thankfully at the interval, a 3rd friend has a real go at them and tells them that she's moving to another seat if they don't calm down, and they were impeccably behaved in act 2. But then a group in the row behind me decided to take over.... I really didn't need to hear 2 drunk Scotwomen attempt Seasons of Love And then to top it all off, a phone from the same group went off during Without You, only for one of the women to loudly exclaim 'Oh sh**, that's mine!'. Give me strength.

Saw this tonight, and completely agree with Duncan's review above. Didn't have any issues with Angel being over mic'd tonight, but the vocals really could do with being put up a notch as they really did get lost in the bigger numbers - overheard a few people at the interval complaining that they were struggling to follow what was going on because they couldn't make out what was being sung. Overall, (despite some of my fellow audience members - but that's one for the bad behaviour thread) a fantastic night out - have come home and gone straight for my old Broadway dvd

Reading through everyone's stress at trying to book for this, I had resolved to wait until the hype died down (probably about 2019 at this rate), but about 10 mins ago I thought I would take a little nosy to see if it was completely sold out. Lo and behold, I appear to now have plans for my birthday in 2018! I suspect it's not a great seat (it was the last one available for that performance), but at least it's not costing me a kidney and my right arm!

Gave into temptation and booked for this as well, only to discover when I got home that I'd double booked myself with the Funny Girl tour. Quick call to Delfont Mackintosh and paid £2 to change to the following week, with no hassles at all. They really could teach other theatre groups a thing or two about customer service.

Is anyone else yet to receive their tickets for next Saturday? I'm now having to travel to London for work from Tuesday, so very concerned I'm not going to get them before I go!

I was in BB, and while it was a great view of the stage you will miss a little bit of the action - there are some points where the cast come out into the aisles briefly. Also - be prepared to be bounced around during the dance numbers - the whole floor shakes! Where about is BB in auditorium. On the seating plan I have seen no BB is shown? Sorry, the joys of trying to type on a bumpy bus - that should have said row B!

It's one of my all time favourites, having watched my local am-dram company (with my dad as company pianist!) do it many many years ago. I volunteered as a programme seller, and sneaked into the balcony to watch every night of the week long run, and just fell completely in love with the music and the story.
With that in mind, I simply had to book a ticket as soon as it was announced for the west end. And so far, it's living up to my expectations. From down the front, it seems that there's a bit of work to be done to get the sound levels consistent, but the performances of the songs are sublime. I may have had something in my eye during Old Man River...

The joys of a 1st preview - apparently they are still teching so this could be a pretty late start! Edit - the auditorium has now opened, so maybe won't be so late after all

Have also just come out of today's matinee, and not sure I can add too much to what others have said. So glad I made the decision to switch Painkiller for this. La Close might not be the best singer to grace a west end stage, but boy is she mesmerising. And when she hits that sweet spot with her vocals.....

As I'm in London this weekend, I can finally join in with this thread Have officially ditched Saturday's matinee of The Painkiller in favour of Sunset Boulevard, followed by the 1st preview (I think?) of Showboat in the evening. Yes, it's the first preview. I'll be at that too & I would expect other board members to be as well - though I daresay I won't realise till afterwards as usual. I've only once so far managed to successfully bump into anyone. If you're near the front of the stalls, look out for the girl with short blonde hair, wearing a blue crochet top

Popped in this morning, and thought it was fascinating. Between this exhibition and the wider Theatre & Performande section it was a great way to kill an hour or so before I could check in to my hotel.
Would definitely like to go back and spend a day exploring the rest of the V&A though - it's absolutely vast!

I have to admit to being very impressed at the amount of work everyone puts into the planning of an Edinburgh trip. Starting to appreciate how lucky I am to only be a 25 minute train journey away and able to (mostly) just decide to take a trip to see a show on a whim

Also saw this in New York last year, and agree that it is well worth watching. That said, I would be thinking twice at those prices... ?

In London this coming weekend, and reading all of these comments I'm sorely tempted to ditch The Painkiller in favour of Sunset. Does anyone have any thoughts on whether I should drop the £57.50 on B17 Upper Circle, or spend a bit more to be in the middle of the Dress (G31)?

I was quite happy with my £43 stalls row E ticket for Newcastle, especially after having waited in an online queue for over an hour this morning.
