I find myself increasingly out of step with most of the posters here. So reluctantly i have decided the best option is to go. All the best to the assorted doctors and others. And above all happy theatregoing. Martin

Ive made my view clear, go. I have a rkt for June, i live in the midlands and the return train journey takes nearly six hours but it was my choice to book in advance therefore i go. Im afraid i simply do not understand the posters here who say they wouldnt go. Illness or force majeure aside. Life's too short innit Martin!! Do what you makes you happy It certainly is for this farcical thread!

I have a ticket for this, and now I'm getting to the point where I have to spend £60 or whatever on a train ticker - or not. Should I bother? I could cut my losses and not go, or fork out for a train? Ive made my view clear, go. Do you seriously think less people will book in advance? I doubt it especially in the subsidised sector and "off west end". People book they should go. End of "Excuse me sir my leg fell off" "It's just a fleshwound you have Macbeth tickets therefore you should go. End of" Well freaking obviously life happens! I live over 100 miles from London so i cant go every week. But then again would i anyway? You cant see everything.

I didn’t realise other theatres allow you to do this, mainly Art funded theatres. Still don’t understand why the subsidised sector allows you to exchange your tickets. I suspect it started as a good gesture to allow people who genuinely cannot make the performance not to be out of pocket, not to be abused - to be chopped in because the reviews are bad. The theatres should stop this service. If they stop then less people will book in advance and wait for reviews. The service doesn’t lose them any money, in fact it probably makes them some money because credit vouchers get lost and forgotten and are never redeemed. Somewhat more problematic possibly is that there’s a secondary market in NT credit vouchers on eBay. Do you seriously think less people will book in advance? I doubt it especially in the subsidised sector and "off west end". People book they should go. End of

Other theatres will let you do this - Barbican, RSC, Bridge, Royal Opera House (will exchange for other shows currently on sale). Why on earth shouldn't people return tickets? I'm much more likely to book for stuff knowing this is an option. Well this just not really correct is it Tricycle Hampstead Bush RSC Almeida ROH ATG at Richmond Birmingham Rep Royal court Barbican CFT Have all allowed me at one time or another To have a credit note A couple have even refunded on the rare occasion I didn’t realise other theatres allow you to do this, mainly Art funded theatres. I wonder if Parsley is going? After showing such reserve on Macbeth, it should be an 'interesting' review. God i hope not!

Whilst i would never return tix. You book in advance you should go. I do think these reviews do out pressure on the NT board not to renew Norris' contract for another five years in 2020. I agree, I would never return a ticket based on reviews. Also I disapprove of leaving at the interval although I have done so twice. Not sure on Norris - would he even want to continue ? He strikes me as just being in the wrong job, he would have been fine running the Almeida and Goold would have been fine at NT. If the rest of 2018 and 2019 is as bad then he will prob go anyway. The Ant and Cleo ought to be good and he would hope for a hit with the Hare play but Exit the King appears to have been moved back. No wonder he wants to bring back Follies!

Wonder why Norris directed this at all, maybe no-one else would. At one point years ago there was supposed to be a Katie Mitchell production of it which seems like a potentially good fit (or a disaster, one of the two). On paper the upcoming RSC one looks much stronger and if so the critics will get a second opportunity to rubbish the NT one. Am going to RSC one on 5 May then the NT on 23 June. Looks like its going to be ahem interesting to compare!

In all seriousness, reviews like this will make the tour more of a struggle to sell - even with it being Macbeth. Word of mouth and reviews seem to be utterly damning. And for all the talk of it being a set text - that isn't quite enough to sustain a lengthy tour. I guess some people might book out of morbid curiosity to see what a flop really looks like - but there probably aren't enough theatrical masochists out there. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the tour was curtailed/cancelled Was always risky to announce tour so early!

The Duchess of Malfi is fantastic. A real crackle of scandal before the interval. Act 2 quite literally a bloodbath. Strong performances all around, with Joan Iyiola outsanding as the Duchess. Amanda Hadinque as her waiting-woman also great - wily and compassionate. May well make a return visit in a few weeks for the open understudy rehearsal. Oh good, going on saturday week, love the play but was a bit nervous after the White Devil farrago a couple of years back.

The beeb just interviewed la dunaway at the vanity fair post oscar bash and she said she is in negotiations to do a play in the WE, no real clues but Phedre was mentioned. Her star has of course faded but she is a legend!

overheard front of house saying to someone who couldnt get tickets.....its mainly schools,Macbeth is on syllabus. We do seem to cater more for schools at RSC these days. Perhaps explains the popularity. They always did, indeed it would seem idd if they ignored the syllabus.

You're wrong on several counts @parsley about Suranne Jones who is an immensely watchable and talented actress in the eyes of many, myself included. Her last London stage appearances were actually in Top Girls at Trafalgar Studios and Beautiful Thing at the Arts. She also had the lead role in Orlando at the Royal Exchange in Manchester. Hardly an actress to rest on her laurels. He is always wrong on several counts.

Along with the refurbished Tricycle, The Bush and now Southwark the small off West End Theatres are eclipsing the facilities at most of the traditional venues. This fits in perfectly with my preference for staying away from the West End Theatres, is being allergic to Proscenium Arches and ornate ceilings a recognised theatrical condition? Just wish the Tricycle would get on with announcing their new season! The facilities better be good, its taken flipping long enough😧

There is bad Then there is awful Then there is terrible Then you have Rufus Norris This utter pile of sh*te Has confirmed the man is incapable of directing anything The fact he can’t even offer a half decent Shakespeare and his lack of any experience with this playwright as a director Says it all In a way it’s good all these Macbeth’s have come along at the same time It will give the RSC a chance to shine with their version The concepts and staging of their production is quite quite something And let’s face it Their two leads really make Duff and Kinnear seem rather Insignificant If the arts media wanted any ammunition to mock and belittle Norris He has given it to them on a silver platter With a knife and fork ready to attack And a warm welcome back to Mr Sunshine!

I do so love Macbeth, remembering Sher and Walter, and more recently the RSC Jonathan Singer version with the children. Going way back Jonathan Pryce was great, but Nicol Williamson was not. And then the legendary Dench/Mckellen was truly thrilling, and the Hopkins/Rigg was good. The worst, and ye gods it was bad, was the royal exchange's concentration camp version with Threlfall and Francis Barber.....horrorific indeed. The Nicol WIlliamson one was directed by Trevor Nunn on the main stage and he was so dissatisfied with it he immediately directed it again with McKellen in the Other Place. The best I've seen was the Rupert Goold/Patrick Stewart one. Doran's with Sher and Harriet Walter was also very good. Amongst many duds Simon Russell-Beale's at the Almeida represents one of the most misguided pieces of casting ever. Did you see that prof? On paper Williamson and Mirren must have seem like good casting. Back in the 60s Peter Hall directed Paul Scofield in what apparently was a big flop at Stratford. This year's double header will be interesting.
