I enjoyed this. Went in with low expectations and I found it entertaining and imaginatively staged and quite moving at the end. So lovely to see Michael Sheen and hear him sing (rather well!). Not everyone could have pulled that play off wearing pyjamas and with a horrible wig, MS could. For a £20 front seat it was a bargain!

He tweeted today to say he was touched by the responses to the programme, and was wiped out by a virus at the moment so it had cheered him up. So he’s poorly. I hope it’s not like the virus I have just recovered from….it’s taken me 2 weeks off work to get better.

Sat next to Ian Rickson at the play Mojo….embarrassed myself by not recognising him and telling him excitedly that he (and his companion) were going to love the play, as I had already seen it, and it was brilliant! . In the interval I raved a bit (as you do) and he confessed who he was, whereupon I instantly realised that he was sitting next to a famous actor, who was in a play at the National Theatre (I have terrible face recognition, no visual memory at all)….must have muttered something like “oh and you are the actor at the National”….they chuckled a bit as it was Rhys Iffans. I made zero coherent sense. Happy times! I wouldn’t mind but Ian Rickson was one of my heroes …..When he said who he was (and that he was glad I liked the play so much) I may have introduced myself as “I’m Mary from Oxford”…..

Saw it a second time on Saturday and I think what elevates it is that the production of the piece is so good, and the structure of the play is good too. So it’s one of those amazing plays that at the end you just sit there, slightly shell shocked, after being in another world completely. And you need a few minutes to get yourself together. I love that from a play. Or TV for that matter. The moment where you are so “in” the production that you forget it’s a play. Also that moment where you know something is inevitable, but you still think “maybe it won’t happen” ….true Tragedy!

When you get a message from your brother - 'Can I call you? Nothing urgent.' You sigh, and think 'What has she done now?'. She being our mother. And she's in hospital but seems fine. Can only wait till I get an update later, but there is no urgency of me needing to fly over. Hope mum is ok. We all hate that call don’t we….pit of the stomach stuff.

Bumping this up a bit. Nice day, doing not much, a few admin jobs, communication with friends and family, wander round the block to say I’m healthy and just eaten 2 satsumas, so I can have fish, chips and mushy pease for tea, can’t I? Beginning to feel like Spring down South, daffs coming out…I like theatre best in the Spring and Summer…hurrah! Excited for some of the new plays in London….be nice to see some family drama stuff where people shout and disagree…in real life I’m a happy soul!

I think maybe we’ve all see a bit of Aunty Carol in a relative…my dad was forever embarrassing us by complaining at restaurants! And I felt the laughter was “with” most of the time, hence why it was such a warm piece.

Well, yes, it’s as good as they said…..thanks for the recommend Parsley and Steve (and any others!). As Miranda would say “such fun”! All the actors at the top of their games, enjoying a cracking script and plenty to get their teeth into. You could almost feel their enjoyment from the off and the comic timing and some of the one liners were splendid! As other have said, it’s a bit predictable and not that deep, except that maybe it is at the end there…..as there was definitely a tear in my eye! Excellent staging too…proper in the round with a revolving table for one scene making sure no-one misses out on faces!

Seeing on Saturday. I don’t quibble with a Parsley Steve recommendation of a family row play! That’s why I love this place!

If that was depriving others of that opportunity, I would say so. If you are AD, that it your primary focus. Directing or acting should happen only very occasionally. I just think it's a conflict of interest. Focus on running the building. I'd never heard of Michelle Terry until they were announced as AD. I have an actor background and would not feel comfortable being an AD and then starting in a production that I've commissioned. Just doesn't sit right with me, but that's just my opinion. I've not seen her onstage nor do I know Richard III - but how about she opens up the platform for other talents? I had heard of Michelle Terry and she had an excellent reputation as an actor already, before she was AD at the Globe. They are lucky to have her.

Terry is a great actor. I have no problem with seeing her in main parts and always silently go “hurrah” when she is announced. End of.

I've seen a couple of posts now mentioning "no witches". Weren't they in the back, behind the glass, to the right? Maybe I missed them? I did find the “behind the glass” stuff quite hard to see (or more accurately focus on) at times….plus the side stalls felt quite low down a lot of the time, as the stage was raised and the glass window high too, so didn’t make for the easiest view.

This was disappointingly style over substance. It was a bit like someone had done everything in a different way just for the sake of doing it differently. So at all points I was like “oh, interesting costume choices, black kilts, each one with the same tilt to the hem and varying pleats” and then thought about those for a bit….or “oh the sound through headphones, that’s new” and then thought about that for a bit…..or “no witches, just headphone noise”and then thought about that for a bit…..”the porter as modern standup” ….and then…..somehow I was thinking about ALL THE OTHER THINGS and the play passed me by? No emotional impact at all for me. Which is a pity. I’ve seen far better. Or maybe my brain was just too easily distracted by it all?

I like his plays. I love a meandering play that gives time for character development. Laura Donnelly is a good actress. There’s plenty else out there if you don’t fancy it. Nothing beats theatre.

Personally I’d rather they kept the jail space for the rapists and people causing more harm, rather than Just Stop Oil protestors, who at least have good motivation, even if you don’t agree with their methods…..can’t help thinking jailing some of our politicians would also be better use of the space! “Which ones?” I hear you cry….there’s a few to choose from, I’ll allow you that.

This all has to stop. These criminals need to be jailed for long enough to make it clear that criminal damage is not legitimate protest. And those organising it need to serve time for conspiracy It is a millenarian cult, they genuinely believe billions of people will die and the world will end if they don’t get their way. Given that, their actions are entirely legitimate from their perspective. They probably need treatment rather than jail, but jail will do for the moment. I see they have also turned up at the Cenotaph. Obviously concerned they’re been kept off the front pages by even higher status protests. This is fake news. Refuted by the Met police who stated they were NOT protesting at the Cenotaph, but had been moved there by police themselves to be safe and be arrested. Be very careful what you believe these days.

So it didn’t damage our “heritage” and is trying to save our future so we can all look back on our “heritage”? It is almost like they thought this through carefully…… Save your prison cells for some of the people spending our taxes and allowing uncapped bonuses for bankers! I get it is annoying. I get it makes your blood boil. But they won’t listen to reasonable as they are in it for the money! And reasonable gets no coverage. Chat to some young people…..they understand why the protests have to happen! And be annoying…..!!!! It doesn't matter that it's a replica - it's still criminal damage, and they should be dealt with. How about if someone started throwing paint around your house shouting save the whales - they are protesting, I understand that so they shouldn't be punished? Yeah, but please proportionate….get them to clean it up maybe? But jail them for days in a high security prison to “teach them a lesson” or run over them if they slow walk? Or just get out your car and attack them? It’s the rage and scale of what people are suggesting that seems to get all out of proportion. These people are not trying to harm you, they are trying to save the planet! By all means sentence them to a bit of litter picking if you must! Why do people hate them so much…and don’t say “hold up an ambulance” etc, because it’s more likely that the Conservative governement lack of investment will make your ambulance late to arrive!…it’s more “I want my day out at the theatre, or to not be slightly inconvenienced for one day” when people in low lying countries may lose their whole country…..catch yourself on.

Also, fair play for pointing out it was a replica.

Thankfully it was a replica skeleton rather than the original. But it is still a pointless bit of vandalism that should see the perpetrators inside. A few nights in Belmarsh might give them the necessary short, sharp shock So it didn’t damage our “heritage” and is trying to save our future so we can all look back on our “heritage”? I stand by my statements. Probably one of the reasons we have cut emissions is that we have outsourced most of our production of “things” to China! I also don’t care how much we have already done….I demand more. I know we can continue to persuade others to save, and it will have a large effect, but that doesn’t stop us doing this thing right in our country! Don’t open new oilfields or dig up more coal. Invest properly in sustainable power…I mean how are we even building new houses without all the proper Green tech? Why can’t we invest to cover all cycle paths/supermarket car parks with solar panels? Wave technology, wind technology. Do the retrofit of insulation in poor quality housing to save people money (mostly poor people!). Set up training schools to train up technicians required to properly install heat pumps and a quality mark for registered fitters. Think “cut emissions” before EVERY decision. I think you will find there are some vested interests in this country, which means Fracking and Oil still win…..
I am constantly depressed to live in a country with so little ambition. If someone today suggested “NHS” or even “Libraries” the retort would be “oh, we can’t afford that”! It’s like we have lost all ambition and moral compass sometimes!

Will you all just stop and listen to yourselves? These people are protesting about our government’s reluctance to ditch fossil fuels which are ruining the planet. Honestly. And don’t tell me they are “protesting the wrong way” ……at leat they are getting publicity for the issue and doing something. It will be far more inconvenient if global warming leads to huge weather events and parts of the world becoming uninhabitable - where do you think all the people will go? Save your anger for the irresponsible and corrupt politicians and the millionaires who hide their wealth as they think they need ALL their money and the rest of society don’t need any. Being nice and protesting the “right” way never won many battles.

I support JSO. I liked in the US tennis when Gauff’s match was interrupted and she just said that, yes it was a bit annoying, but she understood why they were doing it and respected their right to do it. It’s an emergency and no-one is listening. You have to inconvenience people to get publicity. We’ve all seen nice peaceful marches in London that haven’t been reported in the news. And yes, I have been held up once or twice going about London, and along with the irritation I just thought “respect, it’s a brave thing to do”

I saw the matinee yesterday and really enjoyed it for a good hour but after that it began to seem too long and quite an ordeal; not because of the play itself but being forced to sit in those cramped, uncomfortable seats for 2 hours with no interval was quite gruelling and definitely impacted my ability to concentrate and the overall experience. Plus I had a huge person on my right who impinged on my space and a leaner on my left (no doubt due to the pillars), so I had even less room than I should technically have done. In my opinion the play should and could have been a bit shorter - by at least 15 minutes - or should have included an interval. I'm sure others would argue against an interval on the basis that it would break the continuity, but in that case, edit it a little. Besides, though it was very clever and layered, I felt it became a little too intricate and could have lost some of its complexity, or the final stage could have been reached sooner with some pruning in the middle. Based on my initial reaction I would have enthused about it and said it was one of the best things I'd seen in ages; it was still very impressive but somewhat less could have been more. Framing would easily have allowed a “disco in the foyer” break in proceedings as an interval (and could have been quite fun!) ! I too was “taken out of the play” after a while…that chair at the front of the stage blocked my view for some of the time…and I always find that hard not to take personally!!!!! I wonder if there was a moment where the pacing just fell and we stopped being delighted and surprised? Maybe an interval would have helped and then a change of tone for the second half?
