Love and Love Alone from Kander and Ebb's The Visit is worth looking at or Mr Cellophane from Chicago.

Well there were loads of complaints when we didn't get to see the show dance prepared by one couple because they were knocked out half way through. If they made it to the final they should be there till the end. Seems only fair, and the knockout round was only a way to get more money out of viewers phoning their votes in. Does anyone still do that?

Don't forget the excruciating interviews with families, long lost acquaintances and second cousins who's toes were stood on before said celebs learned to dance.

Did Chris not know 'Eileen' before he went to Vietnam? I always felt their relationship predated the one with Kim.

You're spot on brenth. Sally's vulnerability needs to be more subtlety portrayed at first, and Julia got it just right. Most people meeting Imelda's Sally at a party would make a quick exit.

That doesn't mean you always get a good show though, does it? Hence the disappointment.

In that case whoever they come up with is going to be a huge disappointment for somebody. I'd much prefer folk that can sing and act the parts rather than the likes of Kat'nAlfie what ruined Carousel last year.

With so many great songs to choose from, how did they manage to get every single one wrong? This sounds horrific, but Mollie emoting rumbalike to I Dreamed a Dream should be hilarious.

Barbara Dickson often sang IKHSW on her own with her band and it worked fine, but with guys like the late Pete Zorn doing backing vocals you hardly noticed EP was missing.

Ethel Merman famously said "call me Captain Birdseye, this show is frozen!" when the creative team tried tinkering with one of her shows after opening night. Not many stars have that power nowadays, and many directors will make adjustment s to productions well after press night. There are always things that never quite get fixed in previews, so why not sort them when the pressure's off?

Yellow has been fatal for most couples thus year. Even last week Jonny had yellow day glow trim. Hopefully the same applies to Mollie literally!

Graham Norton very funny on his Strictly visit. " it's much better on telly, you don't have to listen to them all clomping round the dance floor."

Its life depends on what happens after the original production closes. Will other groups want to perform this show, does it resonate in other countries? At least it's not just another poor adaptation of a movie, and has its own voice. New York Times just reviewed Jamie and Follies in the same article pretty favourably. Nice line about hoping Jamie doesn't end up like a disillusioned Follies girl.

Mollie won't be able to disguise her weaknesses in the quickstep... no lifts allowed, so she and Gemma will be in the dance off with Mollie to go.

Well they could easily have kept them all in the running with no intention of awarding them the title. so it's nice of the Europeans to at least be honest which is more than can be said for Maybot, Govey, BoJob, kreuzfeldjacobdisease mogg.

I would post the interview with Tim Rice from today's evening standard, but it told us absolutely nothing except that it will be a concert staging as suspected, and he regards the show as a corpse that's not quite dead. Nice! But it seems the cast is too awful/amazing to tell us about.

Simple, singing it as written without the embellishments added by Idina and others over the years.

I don't have a problem with using non traditional music, as long as it's done with style and imagination. But the number of times they use the same old tunes series after series is just dull. There are so many songs that could inspire original and quirky routines, but the producers are terrified of using any song that is unfamiliar to the masses. They should be looking to inspire their audience with great material, not just spew up Balls and Boe murdering new Yoik new Yoik.

Kelsey Grammar was very funny promoting Big Fish on Graham Norton this morning, and the song they played made me want to check this out. I do like most Andrew Lippa scores, but they never quite hit the spot when it comes to show stopping hit songs.

No subtitles here either, but we did get a ten and five minute to curtain warning in the top right corner near the end of the show. Quite distracting.

Just back from NTlive broadcast and there was no problem with synching or sound where I was. The orchestra overpowered the singers at the end of Who's That Woman?, but the balance was fine elsewhere. The audience were incredibly well behaved, not a sweet wrapper, toilet break or chatty patty during the overture even. They didn't clap either, but this was Edinburgh so no surprise there. On the whole I loved the production, choreography and cast. Tracie Bennett stole every scene she was in, but for the first time it became clear to me that Carlotta is the only one who is not deceiving herself, so it fitting that she makes that impression. The scene with Ben on his knees before her is both moving and funny. One More Kiss was made special by the physical and vocal similarities of young and old Heidi. Harmonies on the last line were stunning. Janie Dee was pretty faultless, but that costume is so hideous, I don't think someone as classy as Phyllis would have chosen it. I was doubtful about Imelda being cast as Sally, and most of her songs fell a little flat in the lower keys, but she was vocally far less distracting than Bernadette Peter's Sally. The main problem for me was that if Sally starts off so obviously unhinged, there is nowhere for the character to go. Losing My Mind didn't work as well as the other Follies because her character isn't really any different from earlier, while Ben Buddy and Phyllis are transformed. Not my favourite Sondheim but well worth a visit.

That would require that the audience all clap on time and in unison, which clearly they don't. Third most annoying thing about Strictly after Mollie saying literally literally all the time, and Tess Daly who is literally in a league of her own.

You could see the effort it took for EP to get into character in Piaf, she's never worked harder, but it was uncomfortable to watch. Around the same time I saw Scottish actress Terry Neason play Piaf, and although she's about four times the size of both EPs put together, she was completely believable in the role, as she got the energy and spirit of Piaf, as well as the sound.

Paige really didn't get it at all. She never gets below the surface showstopper to the interior monologue where the character reveals more than she intends to.

Joan Crawford's story would've been well known long before Mommy Dearest was published, never mind the movie. Carole Burnett's I'm Still Here gets all the shifts in mood within the lyric very well, and keeps it in character better than anyone else, and her "I had a Follies number..." intro always makes me laugh.

I haven't seen this production yet but the the whole point of Loveland is that it should jar with everything else. It's a nightmare version of the gaudy spectacle of the Follies which gets more and more frantic until it all collapses with Ben's breakdown. It really shouldn't fit the style of the rest of the showbiz party.

Well that depends what you mean by unconventional, and what you find pleasant. Listening to Ruthie Henshall is quite unpleasant to me, while I recognize her talent I can't abide her vocal style. Thankfully we are all drawn to different voices and performers rather than all liking the same thing which would favour the bland and colourless.
